Snippets and Musings
he 2013 Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 3
rd March. It was
well attended and we certainly had a quorum. Nothing contentious was
raised and members were able to see that their Sub-Branch is in very
good shape financially. Attendance by members and other supporters during
20012 was strong which is of course reflected in the good result.
The election of Management Committee members and Social Committee
members proceeded smoothly and it is good to see two new members on each
committee.
The first Management Committee meeting was held on Sunday 24th
March,
with the preparations for ANZAC Day being high on the agenda.
Photographs of the members of both committees appear later in this
newsletter.
nfortunately there are still some members who have not yet paid their
RSL membership subscriptions for 2013. This means that these people,
not being financial members, do not qualify to participate in the Friday
night Members’ Draws. The cost of membership equates to around the cost of
a beer every two months.
ooty Picks for 2013 is now underway. Probably not too many participants
started well with the Crows and Eagles going down in the first two
matches of the season.
It is worth remembering that the key objective of an RSL Sub-Branch is:
“To provide pleasant, safe, friendly, convivial atmosphere for veterans, their
families, their carers, friends, supporters and the local community to enjoy
discussion, friendship, and good food and drink at reasonable prices.”
This is what makes the difference.
The President and Members of the Management
Committee wish you all a Happy and Healthy Easter

Proposed Alterations to Main Entrance
s mentioned in our Christmas Newsletter, our Sub-Branch plans to make
major changes to the main entrance to the building.
The thrust of the changes is directed to very much easier access to the club.
Simply, this will be achieved by allowing “stepless” access, with automatic opening
and closing doors, a small entrance foyer and, effectively an airlock between sets of
automatic doors.
It has been very apparent for many years, especially as veterans, their families and
their carers are getting older, that they are finding it increasingly more difficult to
gain access to their club. Increasing numbers of these people who are the backbone
of the club are now in wheelchairs, using walkers or walking sticks.
The benefits of the proposed alterations are that they will enable unassisted access
to the premises and provide the best possible access even in inclement weather –
with minimum disruption to the controlled temperature within the building.
We have made strong representation to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for
financial assistance for the project, however DVA have said that, while they would
like to assist they can’t as the project is classified as a “capital works” project and is
therefore outside their guidelines for financial assistance.
Therefore the project will have to be financed by the Sub-Branch. It is a very
worthwhile project and at the appropriate time, the Management Committee will
call a Special General Meeting to seek approval of members to proceed.

Up there with the latest technology.
ost regular members and supporters will have noticed that we have
recently installed new cash registers. These have very clear screens and
show each transaction in large print.
They have vastly expanded memory, which was needed as we increase the range of
products offered both in the bar and also with bistro meals.
The whole system can be centrally controlled by the treasurer from the office.
Prices can be set and the system is programmed to change to Happy Hour prices at
the predetermined times.
The system also maintains running stock reports accounting for each transaction
entered on the cash registers. So at any time we know what our stock level is for
any product we sell. There are many other benefits associated with the new cash
registers and the whole system, and it has been a very worthwhile installation.

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
