PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

As COVID-19 continues to impact on what we are allowed and not allowed to do, I would like to thank the parents/carers, students and staff for the way you all adjusted to the sudden lockdown at the beginning of last week. The information from the Department came through after the students had gone home causing confusion and a lot of unanswered questions. I really appreciated everyone’s patience and quick adaptability to the schools lockdown. For all of us I hope that this is the last time it happens. Next week will be Wellbeing Week, children will be involved in activities relating to their wellbeing throughout the week. More detailed information will be sent out to everyone on Compass.

School Attendance - Every Day Counts We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begins with students coming to school each and every day. Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student is absent puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes. Coming to school every day is vital, but if for any reason your child must miss school, there are things we can do together to ensure they don’t fall behind. If your child must miss school speak with your classroom teacher and find out what work your child needs to do to keep up. If you are having attendance issues with your child, please let the classroom teacher know or meet with either Mr. Runnalls or Mrs Emtsis, so we can work together to get your child to school every day.

Parent-teacher Information Exchanges Parent-teacher Information Exchanges will be held on Wednesday 17th March from 3:30pm to 7:00pm and Thursday 18th March from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. You are now able to book your appointment online on Compass through your parent portal .

Sun Smart Term 1

A reminder, our school is a Sun Smart School and all students are required to wear a school hat in Term 1 to help protect them from the sun. Sunscreen is also available in every classroom for children to apply before they go outside.

Road Safety, Speed Limits and Parking around the School The speed limit on roads around the school is 40 km from 8.00-9.30am and 2.30-4.00pm in Furlong Road and at all times in Carmody Drive and Shepperd Way. To all drivers I ask that you always demonstrate responsible and safe behaviours when driving and parking your car around the school. Children are especially vulnerable around vehicles and roads due to their size and capabilities. It is very easy to not

see primary school age children in your car mirrors, so we all need to be extra vigilant when driving around the

school.

Please ensure your enforce that your child/ren crosses at the school crossing to ensure their safety.

No one ever wants the guilt of having hit and injured a child with their car.

Please observe all parking signs when you park around the school. The police and Brimbank Council parking officers will be patrolling around the school at drop off and pick up times.

Cairnlea Town Centre Car Parking Parents please be aware of the parking conditions across the road at the Cairnlea Town Centre. Centre Management have indicated that they will be monitoring the permit area of the car park. The restricted parking section requires a displayed permit to park in that area. If any parent is parked in the permit zone without the correct permit you run the risk of being fined. All other areas of the Town Centre parking is 3 hours. If you do not have the required parking permit please make sure you are parking in the 3 hour zones.

Mobile Phones at School All students must follow the school policy on mobile phone use and leave them at the office when they arrive at

school and collect them at home time. Wearable devices, like Apple watches are excluded from the policy,

however, if they are brought to school, students must switch off all notifications during the school day. Students

who use mobile phones at school will have them confiscated and parents will be required to come to the school to

collect them.

2021 School Council Elections The 2021 School Council Election process has commenced with the call for nominations on Monday 22nd February. Nomination forms for both, Parent and DET employees are available at the office. Nominations close at 4.00pm on Monday, 1st March 2021. The election timeline is as follows:

Wellbeing Week (1st – 5

th March)

Next week is wellbeing week. Students will be participating in a number of classroom activities to promote wellbeing. There will be a variety of lunchtime activities during the week to cater for varying interests i.e. mindful colouring/ origami making, dancing class, cooking and a handball competition. You might like to encourage your child to do some of these lunchtime activities. Students will also be participating in an incursion during the week which aims to promote being active.


Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) applications The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families. Payment amounts this year are $125 for eligible primary school students. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child. If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances. If you would like to apply for the first time, please come to the school office and ask for an application form. The application form is on the next page. You can find out more about the program and eligibility, on the Department of Education and Training’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund web page. Check with the school office if you are unsure, and please return completed forms to the school office as soon as possible.

Second Hand Uniforms If you have any uniform items that your children have grown out of,

please consider donating them to the second-hand uniform shop.

The items must be washed and clean & in good condition.

Items can be handed in at the office. Thank you.

All proceeds from the uniform shop are donated to State School Relief.

EMERGENCY SNACKS AND LUNCHES FROM THE CANTEEN

In the second half of last year there were many students having emergency snacks or

lunches from the canteen.

These emergency meals are for students who genuinely forget to order or bring their snack

or lunch from home. Students, in this case will be provided with an emergency snack or

lunch of either a vegemite or jam sandwich from the canteen.

An account will then be sent home to parents requesting payment of 50 cents for the snack

or $1 for the lunch provided which is to be paid back to the canteen the next day.

For students that receive these emergency meals and have spending money for the canteen,

their spending money will be used as payment for the outstanding amount.

BIRTHDAYS AT SCHOOL

If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school,

please do not send in large cakes.

Alternatively, send cupcakes (due to food allergies, a list of ingredients is

required), donuts or lolly bags.

Please let the teacher know in advance that you are planning to do this.

The Department has released a new website that helps parents identify their local public

school online.

Findmyschool.vic.gov.au launched on 24 April and shows every school zone across the state.

The new website highlights the choice of public schools available to the Victorian

community.

If your child is preparing to enter Year 7 and want to know more about the public secondary

school options in our area, or you know someone who is interested in enrolling at our school,

Instagram - Cairnlea Park Primary School

The school has an Instagram page, for parents to view, where we will be

showcasing students’ work. Students’ names will not be used.

2021 Enrolments

Enrolments are taken for children who live in the Cairnlea estate and siblings of students currently attending Cairnlea Park Primary. Due to our enrolment restrictions we are unable to accept any enrolments from families who live outside the Cairnlea estate.

Parents are required to supply the following information when enrolling:

Proof of residence in Cairnlea

Proof of age (birth certificate or passport)

Immunisation certificate

Photography, Filming & Recording Policy

If you do not want your child to have their photo used you will need to opt out by filling in the form below and handing it to the school office.
