Principal’s Message

Learning is at the forefront of our classrooms. We have been fortunate to have Mrs Miller join our school over the past several weeks due to a COVID 19 casual teacher support package. This additional staffing has enabled Mrs Newton and myself to assess student progress (since COVID19 learning from home), plan and prepare quality learning for the remainder of this year which aligns to individual student learning goals. These goals and future directions have been reported to parents during parent teacher interviews and will also be communicated via semester one reports.

Mrs Newton and myself have also been preparing for External Validation throughout this semester. Our report was submitted on Thursday 11th June and our EV Panel Meeting was conducted yesterday. We were interviewed by Anne Marie Gill (PSL) and Paul Faulkner (Principal). The panel was impressed with the programs and initiatives implemented across the school over the past few years. They particularly enjoyed learning about ‘Kidslink’ program and the work we have done with STEM. Anne Marie and Paul will now provide us with some feedback and this will support us in determining our strategic directions for the next School Plan.

Next term, we will be celebrating Education Week. This years theme is ‘Learning together’. Staff are currently preparing activities and videos that we will share with our school community, as this years festivities will look a little different due to COVID19. We aim to showcase the achievements of our students in new and exciting ways this year. Watch this space!

SCHOOL NEWS

Term 2 Week 9 2020

Attendance Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include: being sick or having an infectious disease

having an unavoidable medical appointment

being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record.

2021 Enrolments We are now taking enrolments for 2021 and will be posting flyers to the Brocklesby and Balldale communities next week. Information about our Kinder Orientation program will also go out next term. If you know of anyone interested in enrolling their child/ren at Brocklesby please contact us either by phone or email. We look forward to welcoming you to our school.

Semester One Reports Student reports will be sent home next week, after all Parent Teacher interviews have been conducted. Miss Widdison and Mrs Newton have been busy assessing student progress in both Literacy and Numeracy to determine student progress in preparation for these reports. NCCD Attached to this weeks newsletter is information for parents/carers regarding the NCCD. Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. COVID19 Update Information has been updated as at 11 June 2020, until further notice. In line with health advice, schools are operating full time, and many additional activities are now able to recommence. All schools have returned to full-time on-campus learning. With updated health advice and changes to state and national restrictions, schools are able to recommence the majority of school-based activities from either 15 June 2020 or the start of Term 3 (20 July 2020). Some activities are continuing to be considered. Information regarding this is attached to this weeks newsletter.

CLASS NEWS

Term 2 Week 9 2020

Rewards Day On Thursday 2nd July we will be holding a rewards day for students. This day has been a culmination of following school rules, exhibiting leadership and co-operating with one another. We have had a particular focus on using our manners, raising our hand to speak and staying on task to complete learning. Congratulations to all students for achieving their rewards goal. To celebrate this achievement students have voted to hold a pyjama day on Thursday 2nd July. Students may wear their pyjama’s and dressing gowns to school and bring their slippers for the classroom.

Lowesdale Virtual Zoom Visits Last week, students were excited to see and chat with their friends from Lowesdale Public School. As a continuation of our ‘Kidslink’ program the stage 2 and 3 students participated in an online mathematics lesson together. Mrs Newton and Mrs Wright collaborated to deliver a grids and co-ordinates geometry lesson. Although we had some technical difficulties at the beginning it was well worth the effort. Our early stage one and stage one students have also participated in a lesson with Miss Widdison and Mrs Strachan about Tangrams and created their own story.

Kitchen Garden with Mrs Williams Last Wednesday, students enjoyed getting back into the kitchen with Mrs Williams again. Students made jam drops, fruit salad and a mac ’n’ cheese (with hidden vegetables). Here are the recipes for you to try at home.
