Principal’s Message

Hello everyone at home. It seems a li le strange to have limited contact with students and the school community, but we must all do our part. The use of online educa on and communica on is new to all of us, but let’s take it as an opportunity to learn something new! Thank you to all the parents who are doing a fabulous job suppor ng home learning. We understand that it can be challenging, but we are here to support you and we are only a phone call or a few clicks away. Our staff have been working very hard to develop the learning packs and preparing videos and links for future learning. We will be sending out by Monday a metable for the next two weeks including scheduled zoom lessons and other extra events and ac vi es for the students to par cipate in. We are also s ll open and doing everything we can to support students whose parents are essen al workers. We are very diligent in ensuring we s ck to our social distancing and hygiene prac ces to ensure the health of those who must be at school. Finally, I am delighted to announce that I have recently accepted the permanent Principal posi on at Brocklesby Public School. I look forward to con nuing in this role and working with you all in some way, shape or form. That may look a li le different, with recent World events. However, I am sure that when the dust se les we will resume as per normal— probably a li le more tech savvy and possibly a li le bit wiser about how we go about our daily business. Reading at home and Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC) Parents have been asking how to login to the Premiers Reading Challenge so they can log their child’s reading. You can follow the steps below: 1. Open a browser and go to Google. 2. Type: ‘NSW DEC’ and then click on the top link. 3. Click on the Login (top right‐hand corner) and go

down to Student Portal (about halfway down the list). Students are to log in using the same username and password that they do at school.

4. Once you are logged in there is a box tled ‘Learning’. Inside that box, click on the link tled ‘Premiers Reading Challenge”.

5. There are 2 main sec ons, the top sec on (yellow) allows you to search for books that are on the PRC list. The bo om sec on (blue) allows you to search for tles you have read. Type in the tle of the book that has been read. It will come up below. Click ‘+Add to Reading Log’. If you are having trouble accessing PRC you can record you books manually and they can be entered them later.

Saint Patrick’s Day St Patrick's Day saw the students don their green clothing and accessories to celebrate an Irish tradi on. The students learnt about the history of St Patrick's Day tradi ons and the Saint the day was named a er. The students even enjoyed some scrump ous green, chocolate chip cookies. Thank you Harry and Jo Merri for your kind contribu on.
