    2 October 2015

Monday, 5th October is that notable school date which ushers in the official start of the colder half of the year. As such, we can naturally expect All in Winter Uniform to be accompanied by soaring temperatures and a record October heatwave! It would indeed be a joy if the current warm spell were to continue . so, fingers crossed

Last Friday of course saw the start of this current welcome spell of high pressure and bright clear weather, and it also saw our Macmillan coffee morning/afternoon, with cakes in abundance all through the day. Sales proceeded really well and we raised a total of 381 for this very worthy and important charity! Thank you to Mrs Egan, Mrs Shand and all those who helped organise the days proceedings.

This Friday (2nd October), there is a school nurse drop-in clinic in the morning. As mentioned before, this is a new idea, which may well provide some useful help in childrens health and well-being. In the afternoon, do try to get along to the Friends AGM, at 4.00pm in the School Hall. At this meeting, we will look at the various events planned over the year, receive ideas for any new events, review the Friends finances, and also appoint the 2015 16 committee. Please dont be fearful that you will be put under any pressure to become a committee member! Support for the Friends is nonetheless always welcome whether as a committee member or a school parent.

On Saturday morning, the school is hosting a Nursery event, as parents of the older Nursery children gather for a presentation by Mrs Wood, Director of Studies, about school life after nursery. The presentation covers all the different options: state primary schools, independent schools, and indeed home schooling too. It includes details about the state primary admissions process, which inevitably can be a minefield if a school of choice is very popular. I know the parents are much looking forward to the talk, and I am most grateful to Mrs Wood and all involved with the morning.

Looking back, its been a full and varied week, with Tuesdays Forest School for Year 1 and Thursdays swimming as normal for Years 2 and 5. On Tuesday as well, Year 6 had their LEGO maths challenge day. Its always a wonderful experience, teams working together to design and create houses of LEGO bricks, all to scale and costed in accordance with the price given to different size bricks. Tuesday was no exception, proving a fascinating day for all. Well done to our winning team Sasha and Manirvair, who will represent Bronte at the finals on 22 October.

Wednesday, Years 5 and 6 ventured just north of Watford and spent the day at the Warner Bros. Studios, experiencing the wizarding world. Many thanks for all they did on the trip to Mrs Prescott and Mrs Lonergan, Mrs Baldacci and Mrs Lippard, and the two accompanying parents, Mr Gard and Mr Kambo. The detail and care which has been put into all the exhibits and attractions is truly remarkable - it was a great day, much enjoyed by all.
