Bronte School Headmaster’s Newsletter 45 18 September 2015 From time to time in these newsletters, there are pieces about more routine and regular school matters, as well as particular events. This week, we are looking at break times and play supervision. It would indeed be a long, grinding day without these lacunae in the school day, invaluable chances for fresh air, exercise and general recreation. We are always extremely grateful to Mayfield Grammar School for the daily use of the hard tennis court area. It is an important asset, used for morning (10.40am – 11.05am) and lunchtime (12.20pm – 1.30pm) break, as well as after- school. The school garden and play area is used by younger years in the mornings and lunchtimes, and by all in the evenings – and the summer school! Morning break supervision is undertaken by a duty team of teachers and teaching assistants. At lunchtimes, there is a team comprising Mrs Salter, who joined this term of course, Mrs Eggleton, and a new member, Mrs Lee, who joins us on Monday (21st September). Mrs Lee replaces Mrs Collins, who left recently, and for whose work over the past nine years we have been very grateful. Also at lunch, Mrs Kitsell, Mrs Lippard, Mrs Hilditch, Mrs Kalyan and Mrs Iaquaniello have very successfully been organising some games for those who want to join in. Mrs Rezki has recently been organising taster sessions for various sports. Staff members and myself regularly go out to cast an eye over all that is going on. Sometimes of course the children’s relationships can go a little awry, and this can need intervention, but the breaks are a really good time for all sorts of fun, and often completely unique games and stories. I never cease to admire the children’s energy, inventiveness and creativity!

From time to time in these newsletters, there are pieces about more routine and regular school matters, as well as particular events. This week, we are looking at break times and play supervision. It would indeed be a long, grinding day without these lacunae in the school day, invaluable chances for fresh air, exercise and general recreation. We are always extremely grateful to Mayfield Grammar School for the daily use of the hard tennis court area. It is an important asset, used for morning (10.40am – 11.05am) and lunchtime (12.20pm – 1.30pm) break, as well as after-school.

Do try to come along for the Macmillan Cancer Support day next Friday, 25th September (9:00-11.00am) or afternoon (2.30 – 3.30pm). Donations of cakes would be much appreciated too, both for the children to purchase at break time and for the parents to enjoy over a coffee and a chat. It’s a fundraiser for a most worthwhile cause, and a good chance to take your own break!
