ttWhat a great show of support from parents and pupils at the recent catering task at the

Lions Trail Bike Ride. This is a major exercise requiring the help of many parents in order to feed the 600+ riders. The organisation by PTA executive and members was excellent; a special thanks isextended to Wendy, Christine and Donna for this.

The Trail Bike Ride is increasingly a family event. It was great to see pupils and their parents takingpart. For students it is a confidence boosting event, one in which they learn about safety, good

judgement, cooperation as well as competition. From the point of view of the school this is a great

fundraiser. Monies from this are going towardsimproving IT equipment. We have some great ideasthat we will share in later newsletters.

Thank you to all helpers, thanks to the Benington Family for hosting us, and thanks to theLawrence Lions for inviting us to cater.

In our first newsletter we outlined the very good progress students had made during 2012 interms of achievement in relation to National Standards. As a full school our outcomes for our senior students, Yr 11-13 are equally important.Students engage in a broad curriculum in NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 seeking the qualifications sneeded for their career or tertiary pathway. Teachers spend much time selecting courses, providing career information and helping students make the step into tertiary studies. As a school we endeavour to set ambitious goals for NCEA outcomes. Results from 2012:NCEA Level 1 83% pass rateNCEA Level 2 100% pass rateNCEA Level 3 + UE 80% pass rateStudents also gained subject endorsements. We are especially proud of Emma who gainedUniversity Scholarship in Biology. Our outcomes for our five school leavers are impressive.James Haig - Studying for a Certificate in Creative Studies at Otago PolytechnicMatthew Ankerson - Studying for a Bachelor of Information Technology at OtagoPolytechnicAshlea Benington - Studying for a Bachelor of Education at Otago UniversityThomas Blackmore - Studying for a Bachelor of Agriculture and Commerce at LincolnUniversityEmma Shaw - Studying for a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Massey University

These youngsters are great role models and a great achievement for our school.Kind Regards
