Firearms Training WCSC NRA instructor team
For over 25 years, WCSC has offered NRA Education & Training Division classes taught by both male and female WCSC members who are NRA certified firearms instructors and volunteer their time to provide this education as a service to the community.
The 2020 schedule is as follows:
NRA Basic Pistol & NRA Personal Protection In The Home
NRA “Basic Pistol” introduces students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for
owning and using a pistol safely. Students will learn about pistol parts and basic operation, ammunition, firearm safety and pistol shooting fundamentals. If you do not presently own a firearm this course can offer information that could assist you in a more knowledgeable purchase of a firearm to meet your personal protection requirements.
NRA “Personal Protection In The Home” exposes students to various basic defensive shooting
techniques used for “in the home” defense. No single style of shooting works for every individual or situation. Safety is always paramount in firearm handling and instruction. This course offers the basics that can be built upon in further NRA defensive firearm courses. Total Course Time 16 hours. Cost $355 (includes ammunition).
Session A - February 6, 13, 20, 27 and March 5 6:45PM-9:30PM Session B - May 7, 14, 21, 18 6:45PM-9:30PM and May 30 7:30AM-12:30PM Session C - September 3, 10, 17, 24 6:45PM-9:30PM and September 26 7:30AM-12:30PM Session D - October 1, 8, 15, 22 6:45PM-9:30PM and October 24 7:30AM-12:30PM
NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home
This course is an intermediate level shooting course on how to use a firearm for self -defense, and requires students to have already mastered safe gun handling and basic marksmanship skills prior to attending this course. This is an intensive shooting course to instruct students on shooting skills required to respond quickly and safely to a broad range of threats you may encounter outside the home. Legal ramifications of concealed carry and threat response are also covered. Total Course Time 14 hours. Cost $340 (including ammunition).
Session A - March 12, 19, 26 6:45PM-10:00PM and March 28 7:30AM-12:30PM Session B - June 4, 11, 18, 25 6:45PM-10:00PM Session C - November 5, 11, 19, 21 6:45PM-10:00PM
NRA Defensive Pistol
This course will focus on the development of the Defensive Mindset. This is the next step for the student to develop knowledge, skills and attitude to carry and use a concealed firearm responsibly and with confidence. This is an intensive range exercise course that requires agility, focus, and safe shooting skills as there is required personal movement while shooting in performing exercises along with time limits and scoring. Total Course Time 12 hours. Cost $400 (including ammunition).
Session A - January 9, 16, 23, 30 6:45PM-10:00PM Session B - April 9, 16, 23, 30 6:45PM-10:00PM

Fish Committee
The West Caln Sportsmen’s Club has been conducting a trout program at Hibernia Park since 1970. Every Spring the members have stocked the West Branch of the Brandywine Creek and the
children’s pond in the park, with an estimated 3,000 trout for the fishing season. Included in the stocking of the children’s pond, which is to be fished by children only, are trophy sized trout tagged
with a number that corresponds to a particular prize for the proud child who makes the catch.
The cost of the trout program is partially offset each year through individual and business trout
sponsorships. The sponsor’s name is listed on a large color poster made specifically for the season. Our club would greatly appreciate any support your business could extend toward the trout spon-
sorship program. A prize along with a donation would go a long way to support it’s continued suc-cess. We would like to thank you in advance for supporting this event that has become so important
to so many in the West Caln/Hibernia community.
The following is a list of the program’s dates:
Open House at the Fish Nursery March 21, 2020 9:00-2:00 PM
Trout Stocking March 28, 2020 6:30 AM
Special Needs Day May 13, 2020 9:00-2:00 PM
Volunteers, fishing rods, and donated prizes would be greatly appreciated for the Special Needs
Day. Again the West Caln Sportsmen’s Club and all those who look forward to this program each
year, thank you for your support.
Cecil Gentry is requesting help on “Special Needs Day.”

Fall Fishing on the St. Lawrence River
The fish were biting near Fisher's Landing, NY on the St. Lawrence during the last week of September
for club members Karin Brian and Tom Dooley, and their neighbors Wayne and Rose C. Karin had her
first ever smallmouth bass and Tom his first northern pike during their inaugural Thousand Islands
trip. Size 5 Mepps spinners, and hand tied spinner baits brought in smallies that were 3-4 lbs, and 18-
33" pike all week long. Wayne had Achievement Award winners with both a 6lb. smallmouth bass and a
9lb. walleye. Not to lose an opportunity, on the afternoon when the wind and waves were not favorable,
Tom helped Karin improve her flyfishing skills! A few fish dinners were enjoyed, but most of the catch
was returned to the waterway.
