Newsletter 2019 - 01 February 9, 2019 Annual Report 2018-19 The Multi disciplinary research unit is a flagship scheme of the Department of Health Research sanctioned in January 2014. MRU- TVMC were provided a robust administration with formation of a Governing council 8 formed by senior faculty members and 4 subcommittees namely:- 1. Purchase Committee for monitoring purchases 2. Staff Appointment committee for staff posting and review 3. Finance Committee for accounts, UC and SOE verification 4. Civil Works Committee for Construction and Maintenance Infrastructure : 1. The MRU-TVMC is located in the first floor of the College Central Library and the modifications carried out under the DHR funds created a state of the art 400 sqm open lab. The project was completed in 3 months within a total expenditure of INR.24,82,541. 2. The MRU has been provided 3 fund releases of INR.1.00, 1.98 and 1.00 crores respectively to a total INR.3,98,91,621. Of this INR 2,98,91,621 has already been utilised. A new set of equipments under the present grant is under purchase and will be installed in the next 2-3 months. We have been provided 5 staff and recurring grants for salaries and contingencies. Research: 2014-2015: 12 concepts were taken up and 6 full proposals were developed in workshop mode conducted by the National Institute of Epidemiology -ICMR, Chennai. 4 of the projects were shortlisted and 3 were approved by the ICMR SPRC for MRU. 2015-2019: SAC (LRAC) was formed as per DHR guidelines. A total of 54 concepts applications were received. 42 full proposals were developed as per DHR guidelines. Of these 39 proposals were placed before the SAC for consideration. Hashimotos Thyroiditis rare metabolite identified Multinodular variant of HT is a unique presentation in our region with specific endocrine and mineral profiles identified. Translation of Research We have commenced a population based research for identifying patients with ADCME or its forme-frustae for diagnosis of the gene defect. A counselling and guidance for this patients have been established through the network of neurologists working in this project.
