GRADE 2 SLEEPOVER

As an introduction to our school camping experience all grade 2 children

will be able to ‘camp’ at school on Thursday 5th November.

Children will sleep in the administration building and will have an

excursion on the Friday.

The cost will be about $10.00 and notes will be sent home early next term.

If your child has not slept away from home before then try to provide an opportunity for

them to sleep at a relative’s or friend’s house before the camp.

2015 Primary School’s Parliamentary Convention On Friday the 11th of September 2015 Jordan, Sarah and Harry set off

to go to school where we would meet Mrs Read who kindly took us to Parliament House Victoria. We climbed into her car and drove to Seaford train station. We patiently waited for the 7:30 train and when it finally arrived, we all clambered in to get a seat. Luckily there was hardly any people on the train. We waited and waited for 1 hour and slowly but surely the train filled up with more and more people. We hoped of at parliament station which was an underground one. We realized that to get to the top we had to go on a really steep escalator which was actually the steepest escalator in Victoria. When we exited the station and walked

up what seemed like a million steps, we finally emerged from the cold and dark station and out into civilisation. After walking about 100 metres from the station we saw the majestic Parliament. We climbed up the steps and into the front door which towered over us. We went through customs and had our bags checked. We entered Queen’s Hall and were greeted by officials who handed us our folders and pens and told us what was going to happen we left our bags there and walked through the long hall that backed onto the room where Government and the Opposition group would sit all the children were invited to sit in the green seats. As we found our seats, we listened to an Aboriginal speaker playing the Didgeridoo and rhythm sticks and he told us that the land we sat upon was originally Aboriginal meeting land. After his talk, we then invited the another speaker who introduced the topic of the day which was children rights, if the Government hears, if we should lower the voting age/raising it and if we would be more engaged in Parliamentary topics. Then we left, had our morning snack and went in to our groups (which had been decided the day before) in our groups we were given a topic and we had to write a persuasive piece on that topic. Then chosen people read out our piece which we all voted on later. Together we have decided that we would like the voting age to 15 but it is only compulsory when you are 18. After that we had the official finish and left Parliament. We went to the station and climbed on the train and travelled about 4 minutes then we had to stop and get on another train to get to Seaford station. When we arrived we couldn’t find Mrs. Read’s car. But we found it after a lot of searching. Then we travelled to school and went home. We had a great day and we would love to give a huge thanks to Michelle Walker and Mrs Read for escorting us there.

has now finished and we have returned approximately

690 sheets of stickers. Thankyou to parents, friends,

neighbours, teachers and children for supporting our school. We will now be able to

choose educational resources for our school. A very special thankyou to Kelly Driver who

has spent many hours sticking the stickers onto the sheets.

Victorian State Schools Spectacular

Tootgarook P.S. participated for the first time ever in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular in the mass choir. 21 students from the grade 5/6 area expressed their interest late last year and have rehearsed 15 different songs during Term 2 and 3. There were around 1000 students in the massed choir and around 1500 students in the massed dance group. The students who participated did an excellent job, they were polite, attentive and persevered through exhaustion and even sickness. The show was filmed and will be aired on Channel 7 on the 5th of December. Well done to all the students and thank you to the patient and highly engaged parents.

The entire Mass Choir and the 150 piece orchestra (both primary and secondary students). Tootgarook is in the top right hand corner.
