Dear IAN Members,

The 24th Annual Conference of Indian Academy of Neurology (IANCON 2016) to be held at Hotel ITC Sonar, Kolkata is fast approaching and we hope to see you at the Conference.

Do mark the dates, November 10-13, 2016 because exciting scientific and social programs await your kind attention. Dr. Subhash Koul, President, IAN has crafted an elaborate scientific program based on inputs from members/ via the online conference symposia proposal portal (we received over 40 proposals during the inaugural round of proposals this year). He took care that the program was inclusive of nearly all proposals submitted.

Many new additions to the scientific program deserve mention. In the preceding conference, a medico-legal/social session for practising neurologists was highly appreciated. We will sequel the session by another symposium that will include investment guidance for busy neurologists, ethics and patient communication skills. For the first time, two additional meetings have been incorporated in the scientific program: A session dedicated to postgraduate students in neurology across the country that will address mentoring and future career issues for our younger colleagues and an HODs' (Heads of Departments') Forum in acknowledgement of the significant role played by a large number of departmental heads in shaping the future of Indian neurology. What more, we have received a record number of abstracts this year - nearly 390, representing a gain of nearly 150 submissions over the last year.

Not to forget mention, a completely new and unique social venture, in which members will display their extra-curricular skills and talents - singing, instrumental performances and the galore - on November 10 evening soon after the Inauguration of the Conference.

The organising committee lead by Dr. Arabinda Mukherjee (Chairman, Organising Committee) and Dr. Kalyan Bhattacharyya (Organising Secretary) are working very hard to ensure every comfort and the very best scientific, social and culinary offerings to all delegates.

A number of other activities marked the preceding few months in the IAN including the organisation of the Neuromuscular and Neuro-rehabilitation subsection meetings - both well-attended and appreciated (reports featured in this issue). More activities will follow and in this context please mark the dates, March 24-26 as the IAN is hosting the International Tropical Neurology Conference at Mumbai with over 15 overseas invited speakers under the aegis of the World Federation of Neurology.

We then eagerly look forward to meeting you during IANCON 2016.

Best Wishes,

Gagandeep Singh
