From the Principal…
Dear Families,
This week is another busy week in the school with many extracurricular activities
including:
COMPASS Parent Information Session
Year 5 Leadership speeches
Years 3 – 6 Dance Club
Year 1/2 Chess Club
Festival Singers rehearsals
Year 6 Graduation Dance rehearsals
Year 6 Clubs activities
Student assessments are almost at completion point and 2018 class groups are
taking shape. Before the conclusion of the 2017 school year children will find out
their 2018 class group and class teacher. The announcement of class groups
represents the culmination of many hours of individual, area team and whole staff
teamwork. Much time and effort is dedicated to this process. Teachers are
provided with feedback gained from parents and this is also taken into
consideration when forming class groups. Please note that it is not possible to
satisfy all requests. Once class groups are announced it is NOT possible to make
changes since each change actually represents a vast array of different class
allocation considerations. There are times when it is not possible to fully
communicate the reasons for some of the individual student placement decisions
since in doing so would represent a breach in confidentiality. Each year is dynamic
and different thus it is with this air of enthusiasm and optimism that we embark on
the preparation for yet another happy year at Deepdene Primary School.
Class Structures for 2018
Many hours are spent at this time of year working to establish the class groups for
the following year. This Term, School Council members and staff members have
had the opportunity to look at the projected enrolments figures for 2018. The
School’s Consultative Team has also met regularly this Term and also tabled a
number of suggestions for possible class structures. After much deliberation it has
been decided that in 2018 the following class structures will be established:
(subject to any significant enrolment or budget changes)
Foundation (Prep) 4 class groups
Year 1 3 class groups
Year 1/2 1 composite Level 1/2 class
Year 2 2 class groups
Year 3 2 class groups
Year 3/4 1 composite Level 3/4 class
Year 4 2 class groups
Year 5 3 class groups
Year 6 2 class groups continued on page 2…

Lost Property
Large amounts of clothing are collected from the yard after school each day and
placed in the lost property box outside Room 6 (6S). Please check the box for your
lost property, make sure all articles of clothing are named and ENCOURAGE children
to be responsible for their own belongings. The lost property box is still
overflowing!

School drop-off and pick-up during power upgrades There will be some impact to traffic around the school as CitiPower upgrades the underground cables and overhead wires in the neighbourhood. Works will take place between 7am and 5pm, from 9 November for a period of six weeks.
Drop-off areas on Abercrombie and Kitchener streets will be affected by the upgrades. We suggest you try and use an alternate drop-off location while these works take place. To safely complete the works, traffic lane closures will be required and you may notice temporary speed reductions and traffic controllers in the area to direct traffic.
Overhead powerline upgrades will also be taking place close to the Anniversary Outer Circle Trail walking and cycling path between Abercrombie Street and Cotham Road. The path will remain open but temporary closures may be needed for safety.
Parents are asked to let their children know about the importance of staying clear of the works and listening to CitiPower crews if they’re near to the site.
If you have any further questions or concerns, you can contact CitiPower on 1 300 301 101 or visit our website at www.powercor.com.au/contact-us
We thank you for your patience during these important works.

We can't believe how quick this year has gone already. We have been super
busy at OSHClub over the past few weeks but we are happy to announce that
we are finally back into routine. Bec is back and we have a new assistant who
goes by the name of Shani, we are very excited to welcome her into our
program.
If you have any queries, please feel free to pop in and see us or give us a call on
0432 161 565.
Bec
Reminders:
Hats - we strongly encourage students
to keep a spare hat in their school bag
for OSHClub. OLGC students require a
hat for the walkover and all students
require a hat if they would like to play
outside.
Summer Recipes - we are always on
the lookout for new things to be making
for afternoon tea, if you have any
healthy recipes for us to try please feel
free to pass them on.
What we have been up to:
- Icypoles have been cooling us down
in the heat - Fruit Salad and Yoghurt
have been keeping our hunger at bay
and we even tried Pomegranate!
Delicious
- We have been enjoying cricket,
soccer and basketball outside with
Lachy showing us different ways to play
- We have introduced new group
games for the morning including broken
window which keeps us all entertained
