Grad Reminders The Dry Grad ticket sale kick off is on Thursday, May 10th in the Cafeteria at 1:30. Dinner and Dance payment and guest passes must be submitted to the office by your table captain by May 17th. Did you get your extra ceremony tickets? Check at the office the week of May 14th. Check your Grad Info Package for the times and dates to pick up your Grad ceremony tickets and cap and gown. Don’t forget your $50 V-Stole deposit! Grad Stage Narratives English 12 and Communications 12 teachers will be requiring their students to submit a 150 character quote to be read when the student crosses the stage at the Convocation Ceremony. The link for this is Grad Stage Narrative. Students are advised to wait to write this until they have received clarification from their English teacher. The deadline to have this completed is May 15th. Students who do not submit a Stage Narrative will have a genetic one read.

Recognition Afternoon All students who submitted a WGSS + District Scholarship Application form will be receiving an invitation to the Scholarship Recognition event. The invitations will be sent to the students’ email. This special afternoon will be Monday, June 4th starting at 3:45 pm in our school cafeteria. Donors and other members of the community will make presentations to our award winners. Students are asked to RSVP by May 23rd. Students who would like to have their originally submitted “Evidence of Involvement” documents can drop by counselling and speak to Ms. Docherty or Ms. Kifiak to pick these up.

Transcript Information Student Transcripts Service Students can access the StudentTranscripts Service at: studenttranscripts.gov.bc.ca/. Students should have created a basic BCeID account to access their information if they are planning to attend a Post-Secondary institution this September. For details on creating a Basic BCeID account or resolving forgotten passwords click here. Students need only complete their PSI selections once in the current school year. Students may add to their selections at any time up through July 13, 2018. Students may make up to 25 selections free of charge within six months after completing their last course. After six months, students will be charged $10 per transcript, payable on the StudentTranscript Service. Distribution of Transcript Information and Deadlines Interim Transcript Information The Ministry of Education sends Interim batch Transcript information to participating BC PSIs, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC): May 7, 2018 All other PSIs receive final transcript information only Final Transcript Information PSI Selection Deadline: July 13, 2018 The Ministry sends final Transcript information to all students’ selected PSIs in late July 2018 Student Name Confirmation

Students should ensure that the name that will appear on their transcript matches the name they provide in their applications to post-secondary institutions. A student can check their first and last names as reported to the Ministry on their Unofficial Transcript of Grades found on the StudentTranscripts Service website. WGSS distributed Transcript Verification Reports to our Grade 12s on April 26th and 27th for students to confirm their names and mailing addresses. If students have additional changes before the end of this school year, they should check with Ms. Kalynn in the Counselling Centre.

JumpStart your Education this May and June

JumpStart sessions are pre-orientation events for all newly-admitted CapU students. These sessions are designed for new students to learn more about the campus and the university community, meet other new students who may be in their class, learn about course registration and more. Recruitment will be mailing a personalized invite to all of our newly-admitted students. In the meantime, please encourage your students to check out the JumpStart website for more information and to RSVP for their preferred date and time. Parent & Student Supporter Orientation Sessions Capilano University recognizes the important role Parents and Student Supporters play in the educational success of First-Year University Students. New to CapU this year are orientation sessions for parents and student supporters of students newly admitted to the University. Maintaining an offer of admission All UBC offers of admission are conditional. The conditions required to maintain an offer of admission are outlined in each student’s letter of admission. Additional guidance regarding grade changes is available online. Deadline to accept an offer of admission For most students, the deadline to accept an offer of admission is either May 1 or June 1. Students should refer to the date specified in their letter of admission. Offers can be accepted on the Student Service Centre. Approximately two weeks before course registration opens, students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus will receive an email from UBC with information about their assigned registration date and time. For assistance with course planning, students can connect with an academic advisor in their faculty. UVIC

Academic Advising: All students are encouraged to review UVic’s Academic Calendar to better understand requirements for their intended program. Some students may wish to speak with an adviser about a potential course plan and learn about tips that will support their success as a new university student. Appointments are approximately 20 minutes and can be booked for a Skype or Facetime session, in-person or phone appointment. Students are responsible for registering themselves in courses. Please read the steps outlined in the Student Registration site for instructions.

Destination UVic – Saturday, May 12 Destination UVic is a one-day, on-campus event for applicants and their families to experience a taste of what it is really like to be a member of the UVic community. There will be FREE bus transportation to campus for families travelling from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, Courtenay and Nanaimo. The day will include student services, residence and athletics & recreation tours, program planning with academic advisors, course registration information sessions, and opportunities to connect with current students, faculty and staff through a variety of fun activities. All applicants were invited to register for this program by email last week. Eligible attendees will have the chance to win one of two $500 tuition credits or the grand prize of one $1,000 tuition credit towards first-year tuition at UVic! Throughout the course of the event, students participate in a variety of enriching hands-on activities centred around exploring technical aspects of computer science. The event is organised by student members of SFU’s Women in Computing Science group. Registration is Free! Try/CATCH provides snacks, lunch and a reception for the students. Tactical Day with Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services

When: Saturday, May 12th Time: 9:00 – 4:00 pm Where: Vancouver

Activities include hazardous materials decontamination, extrication from an automobile, live fire, technical rescue - rappel from burn tower, heavy urban search and rescue drill. Lunch will be provided.

Eligibility requirements: 1) The Achieve Anything Foundation

Training + Job

The Roofing Contractors Association of BC (RCABC) in Langley is offering a three-day training program that will prepare applicants for a job in the roofing industry. Here’s what you’ll get: 1) WorkSafe BC approved Fall Protection

Training 2) WHMIS 2018 certification 3) Ladder safety training 4) General construction site safety training

5) Introduction to the roofing industry 6) A JOB with an RCABC company

Requirements to participate in this program: 1) $200 tuition fee 2) CSA approved steel-toed boots 3) Hard hat 4) Leather work gloves 5) Good attitude

At the conclusion of the program, students will be registered as apprentices with the RCABC and will be matched with an RCABC employer. Apprenticeship training will be offered to eligible workers in the Fall. Their apprenticeship programs include: Architectural Sheet Metal Worker & Roofer, Damp & Waterproofer.
