Science Week: 17th-21stMarch

The Science Faculty will use science week asan opportunity to raise the profile of sciencein the school, and in the lives of our students, byenthusing and challenging all of our girls.

Activities will be based around a range of challenges inscience lessons. They are designed to ensure that allstudents have an opportunity to enjoy themselves asthey learn and investigate scientific challenges. TheScience Faculty have also designed stimulatingactivities for coco time, lunch time, and after schoolworkshops. A Science of Food activity will involvecatering staff, looking at food science and space agefood. In addition to these activities, all KS5 studentswill be invited to an engineering challenge withspecially invited engineers, who will act as judges forthe students’ projects. Over the week, we hope thatour students will both enjoy, and learn, from thesechallenges.

In the Science Faculty we strongly believe in acurriculum based on activities, investigation andexperimentation, and we are developing an activitybased curriculum. As well as providing revision andacademic support for KS4 and KS5 pupils, we also runa KS3 science club, which acts to foster the girls’curiosity. In the science club, we recently celebratedthe Chinese New Year, while investigating convection, producing Chinese lanterns in the process.

Science, Technology, Engineering &Mathematics [STEM] Lectures

Science, Technology and Mathematics Departmentshave invited experienced engineers and scientists tovisit the school and give students an insight into theworld of engineering and technology. These lectureswill be open to all KS4 and 5 students. Starting afterFebruary half term, they will be held in the JCR [sixthform area] from 3.20 every Thursday. We hope thatthese lectures will inform and inspire all students.

Our recent, whole schoolproduction of Bugsy Malone wasa huge success playing to largeaudiences and gaining greatreviews.

Working with Hornsey students for the production ofBugsy Malone has been an amazing experience fromstart to finish! I am bursting with pride about thestudents involved who showed boundless resilience, professionalism and incredible skill throughout.

Hornsey students from year 7 to 13 worked togetherand the result was a fun, splurge crazed Bugsy mess!We are now looking forward to meeting for a post-show celebration very soon.

Thank you to all students and staff involved for makingthe show so wonderful to be involved with! What's instore for next year? You'll have to wait and see, butyou can guarantee that it will once again showcaseHornsey talent in Music, Dance, Art and Drama!
