Colour Run Fundraiser Our school will be par cipa ng in a School Fun Run Colour Day Fundraiser on the same day as the Cross Country Carnival. There will be an obstacle course organised where students who have raised some funds for the school will get to par cipate in the Colour Run.
Fundraising pamphlets have been sent home with students. You can earn some great prizes just for raising some funds for our school!
What is a Colour Run?
The colour run is an event where students run or walk around the obstacle course. Whilst running they are sprayed from
head to toe in different coloured non‐toxic powders. Wear white at the start line… and finish doused in all the colours of the rainbow!
This event is all about promo ng community and fitness in a fun environment, whilst raising money for our school at the same me. All sponsorship is processed online, meaning your friends and family who live far away can also sponsor you.
What to bring
•A white T‐shirt **Please note the colour will probably not wash out, so if you don’t have an old shirt to wear, you can purchase one for $2.50 at Kmart, or slightly more from Target, Best & Less or similar.
•A water bo le and towel per student (labelled with names please).

PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE
Dear Parents/ Carers
Welcome to week 8.
This week on Thursday, the whole school will be undertaking a lockdown prac ce procedure. As you are all aware, the safety of
our students is a top priority and therefore these drills are important to prac ce, not just for the students but staff as well.
If you happen to be near the school on Thursday and you hear the alarm sound, please do not be alarmed as it will be a drill. The
police usually a end this procedure to offer feedback about our safety procedures and will be onsite.
I an cipate it will over in 15 minutes from the me we commence.
In the newsle er this week, you will see some informa on about a Rail Trail ride. Please read carefully if your student’s wish to
par cipate as there are specific safety and fitness concerns as parents you will need to be aware of. If the first ride is a success
then I intend to have a least one ride each term. With the Rail trail on our doorstep, it seems like a great opportunity to get our
students ac ve.
Whilst we are on the ac ve theme, Mr Murdoch has put together a fantas c program for students to par cipate in a virtual Run
around Australia from Toogoolawah. Mr Murdoch will be presen ng this to students at this Monday’s parade and is again
another great opportunity for students to remain ac ve.
I am a firm believer that the more ac ve we can make our students the greater their ability to concentrate and contribute to
academic ability. I have included this quote below to highlight the importance of physical ac vity.
I would also like to remind parents to please organise for your children to be collected a er school from inside the school
grounds. No student is to wait out on the road area for pick up.
Have a great week.
Sincerely
Garry Hutchinson
Principal.
STUDENT OF THE WEEK Abbi Reiser Abbie is a proud Toogoolawah State School student who always wears her
school uniform with pride. She does the right thing all of the me, even
when no one is around. Abbi treats adults and students with respect, kind‐
ness and considera on. All her tasks are completed to the best of her ability
and she does them with a smile and a posi ve a tude.
Abbi genuinely enjoys helping others and does so without ever being asked.
Congratula ons Abbi!

Rail Trail Ride
Ride Route
We will ride along the trail to under the bridge by Gregors Creek Road about 10 kms. This will be a rest stop then
con nue onto and through the Yinbun Tunnel another four kms up the trail. I an cipate arriving at Yinbun tunnel at
approx., 9.30 am.
Once through the tunnel we will stop for morning tea, parents can drive to this spot and collect students, or if fit
and confident students can undertake the journey back to school. It is ok to make that decision at the turn around
point depending on how your student is feeling. We return via the same route.
This will be a great op on for students who may not be capable of the complete out and back ride.
Student Pick up details at half way point.
If you turn right off the Brisbane Valley Highway before Harlin at Sinnamon’s Lane, you can then follow the road un l
you arrive at the Karreman Quarry intersec on, turn right and about 1 km up the road will be the pickup point. We
have permission from the Quarry to be on their private road. The trail is to the right and you can see the tunnel from
the road.
If you would like your student to a end or if you would like to join us, have your student nominate their names to
the front office and collect a permission and medical form. I will need these completed and returned by
Wednesday the 27th of March.
Important note: This is a casual ride not a race, if you have doubts about your student’s ability to complete the
trip; I intend to look at one a term, so they can easily get onto the next trip in term 2.
If you have any ques ons or concerns about your student par cipa ng please feel free to call our office and I will get
back to you asap.
Sincerely
Garry Hutchinson
Principal.

Hi once again!
“How would you like all children to be sociable, friendly, chatty, refreshingly honest and straight to the point? To be helpful, quick to take the initiative, and not demanding the constant attention of grown-ups, knowing how to entertain themselves.” P4…the Happiest Kids in the World by Rina Mae Acosta and Michele Hutchison
It almost sounds too good to be true doesn’t it. But it is! Childhood in the Netherlands consists of lots of freedom, plenty of play and little academic stress. They are not wired for success but instead they are the heart of the family unit. The Dutch have been determined to have a less stressful work-life balance. They av-erage a 29-hour week and allow at least one day per week where they spend time with their children and them-selves. Dutch fathers also take on an equal role in child rearing and are not ashamed to be seen with the kids on their days off.
The result is that a 2013 UNICEF report rated Dutch children the happiest in the world. When you hear a young voice say ” Could you help me? ” Will you play this game with me?” “I need you.” Or they want an extra cuddle or hug, are we prepared to take the time and use it with them…the centre of our family unit. That extra love and support will help them “understand that achievement doesn’t necessarily lead to happiness, but that happiness can cultivate achievement.” P5…the Happiest Kids in the World by Rina Mae Acosta and Michele Hutchison
Have a HAPPY WEEK!
PREP VISION SCREENING
Good vision is important for a child’s educa onal, physical and social development. Vision screening is therefore vital in early childhood, par cularly for condi ons such as ‘lazy eye’, which, if not detected early, can lead to blindness. A Registered Nurse will be visi ng our school on Thursday, May 2, 2019 to commence vision screening for all Prep Year children. A consent form has been sent home with your child this week and, if you wish to have your child par cipate in this vision screening program, please complete and sign the form and return it to your child’s class teacher by Friday, 29 March. You will be advised in wri ng of the outcome of your child’s screening. Please note that if your child has had a vision assessment in the past 12 months it is not necessary for him/her to par cipate in this screening program. If this is the case, please complete the consent form and indicate that you do not wish for your child to par cipate, and ensure that you follow the schedule of reviews recommended by your eye health professional.

please ensure that all orders are placed by Wednesday each week. The tuckshop crew were only ex‐
pec ng to make 65 pizzas last week but had an extra 26 orders last minute, which did put them under
the pump sourcing enough ingredients and finding extra oven space! They managed to pull it off bril‐

Uniform Shop ‐ Clearance sale of black skorts and shorts ‐ $10 each while stock lasts!! PLEASE remember to
place your winter uniform orders ASAP. Order forms enclosed with the newsle er. The uniform shop is
open on Wednesdays at 8.30am and is co‐ordinated by Rachel Hughes and Nikki Edwards.

other fun Easter treats. Please make your dona ons at the school office so we can start pu ng together
some Egg‐celent Easter prizes.
Raffle ckets are being sent home today. Each family is receiving a book of 10 raffle ckets worth $1/ cket.
The more ckets that are sold, the more money we raise for the school. All ckets (both sold and un‐
sold) and money raised needs to be returned to Toogoolawah State School by Tuesday 2nd April 2019.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday 3rd April 2019. Please contact Sue Seymour on
