Even at the ground level, large number of people participated and contrib- uted their efforts towards con- serving Mother Nature. Deccan Honda, Pimpri or- ganised ‘Screening of environ- ment-based short films’ followed by an interactive session. TERRE screened two short films namely, ‘Turtle in the soup’ and ‘Leopards in the Lurch’. ‘Turtle in the Soup’ is based on the smuggling of tur- tles for food purpose while ‘Leop- ards in the Lurch’ showcased how leopards are getting endangered every coming day! Both the short films highlighted the need of en- vironment education and aware- ness amongst the society. The event progressed by an interactive session by Dr. Vinitaa Apte, Founder Director-TERRE. She focused on how the mankind is running towards destruction of our planet in high pace. “Waste is the most threatening cause of Pollution. When we throw the waste away, there is no ‘away’!” TERRE Policy Centre and TATA Motors celebrated World Environment Day in the afforestation site in Mhalunge. Mr. Vijay Mayekar, Mr. Achintya Singh, Mr. Mayuresh Kulkarni, Mr. NItesh Attarde and Mrs. Ujwala Khaldker from TATA Motors, and Dr. Vinitaa Apte from TERRE graced the event by planting trees. There is no need to pray day and night to get nice rains. Plant a tree, conserve the for- ests and rain will pour. It’s his love towards the Earth. !! Plantation started in Dolvi - Million Tree Plantation Program

Plant Adoption at Smritivan, Warje

The biggest plantation drive at Dolvi has begun on 7th June, 2018! TERRE team is all set to accomplish the targeted planta-tion in Dolvi and Karav site. After land evaluation, baseline surveys,

gridline markings and digging of pits, the actual plantation is be-ing done everyday.

By the end of June, 9000 plants have been planted at Dol-

vi and Karav site. Engagement of the local communities in planta-tion drive by TERRE will help in upliftment and betterment of community’s livelihood.

Rotary Club Of Pune, Sahawas honored Dr. Vinitaa H. Apte with ‘Rotary Vocational Ex-cellence Award’ at the Hands of Hon. Mukta Tilak - Mayor of Pune. She was commended for

Nelda means ‘Champion’ in Irish language. It is an award given to organization or a group of volunteers who are working for the bet-terment and preservation of environment and society. Project Nelda was launched in the year 2016 with a plan to grow a billion trees by 2041.

TERRE felicitated Prakashache Bet Awardee

Volunteering activity at Mhalunge

On 29th June, TERRE felici-tated Mr. Dheeraj Watekar as an Awardee for the 9th edition of Prakashache Bet at the hands of Dr. Vinitaa H. Apte - Founder Director, TERRE.

While working in the field of environmental journalism, loss of forestry has been observed prom-inently. To aware and educate fu-ture generations and the society, Mr. Dheeraj Watekar initiated the afforestation programme.

Dr. Vinitaa H. Apte stated, “Preventing the deforestation must be the objective of every individual. This is why, TERRE is working in plantation at mas-sive level and has planted 40,000 Trees in last three years. In cur-rent year, TERRE is planting 30,000 trees at Dolvi site as well as 18,000 at Mhalunge.”

Mr. Dheeraj Watekar is gen-erating employment opportu-nities by planting the Sandal trees. “Building the forest with a

healthy biodiversity is one of the toughest job to do. It’s really dif-ficult at times to carry these ac-tivities but receiving encourage-ments from organisations such as TERRE will always provide the zeal to continue and achieve tar-gets.” he quoted.
