Welcome new DAL members, 12/14/15:

George Amme, 2D Oil, & wife Jane, joined as a family. They had been “friends” for the past 2 years. Victor DiPilato: 2D Oil. “Thank you! I look forward to being a member of the art league!” Victor is a HS Chemistry teacher, Boynton B. Gloria Espinosa, 2D Oil I was born in Peru & am now an American citizen. I have been an artist for 35 years. I have shown & published my work extensively in galleries & museums & books in Peru & the USA. Contact me for my compete artist biography. Irene Lammersdort, 2D-Oil, Acrylic -My art speaks to my love of color & shapes, whether a painting on the wall, a utilitarian ceramic object, or a pleasingly decorated space. I deal with color & shapes with intensity & passion, with an urgency to express it & pure pleasure when the results are beautiful. This beauty keeps me stimulated to keep on working to achieve constantly higher levels of excellence. I studied Design &Architecture at N. VA CC in 1979, then studied ceramics at the Corcoran School of Art in DC. In 1980, I was chosen to have several of my pieces adorned the White House Christmas tree. Some of my work was displayed at the Moscoso Gallery on CT Ave in DC.. My move to Delray Beach put me in contact with a number of artists, who encouraged me to keep on painting. I remodeled the Spady Museum, a very special place that honors the rich heritage of the African American community. As I became more involved in the Delray Beach art world, I wanted to share with others my joy in the arts. I am very pleased to have been invited to show my work. Dorothy Ann Pickens, 2D Oil, Acrylic: I am absolutely thrilled to be a new member of the DAL! I had a nice time at the meeting. Thank you so much! I look forward to participating in future events! Susan Goodyear (juried Nov. 2015): Susan Goodyear is a brilliantly accomplished visual artist. As a painter, her work ranges from serious portraits and figurative work through vibrant nature studies & deeply religious work. Formerly of New Orleans and associated with the Anthony DiMarco Studio, she now resides in Boca Raton.

The DAL thank you to the 28 members who participated in the outdoor exhibitors meeting held 12/14/15 at City Hall. We only met for an hour, but came up with a long list of opportunities for improvement. We used a process called SWOT Analysis (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) to help us determine what the DAL could or should be doing to improve our outdoor shows. We used the questionnaire input that our members submitted via email last spring. For those who attended, do you want to have more meetings? Are there members who would like to volunteer to form a committee to explore ways to improve the outdoor show venue? Your commitment, feedback & additional input is essential for the improvement to occur. Clearly some changes are needed; the board has already put 2 items on it’s agenda for the next Board meeting: 1.opening up shows to other art mediums (ex: jewelry, infused glass, digital design) 2. creation of an outdoor show advisory committee. Here is a suggestion submitted from member, Bruce Bain: In order to create more of an interest in shows (outdoor & indoor), my thought is for the DAL is to enter into a partnership with other societies such as an orchid society. Having a show of flowers and or other disciplines and art together or would attract more people/buyers. I am sure there are other groups besides flower growers. This suggestion plays on DAL's strength of community, creates an opportunity, and addresses a weakness of same old same old. A suggestion for managing tonight's brainstorming session is to (continued next page)

1.Assign a time keeper 2.Limit discussion on SWOT topics to 15 mins. each 3.Take notes 4.Hold a followup session for suggestion in which no suggestion is out of bounds 5.Tie suggestions to SWOT topics 6.Have a third session for selection of one or two actions to concentrate upon. Announcement of 2016 Ocean Ridge Coastal Artist Exhibition Nancy Flinn, Show Director (561) 860-3897/[email protected] I’m writing to share the “NEWS” that the 2nd Annual OR Coastal Artists Exhibit will be held during the month of March, 2016 in Ocean Ridge Town hall. We learned a lot and promise you that this year the process of show participation will be much smoother. The Town of Ocean Ridge has reduced the percentage of sales commission from 30% to 20%. There will be an exhibit brochure available that will include: Painting Number, Artist’s Name, Painting Name, Material/Medium, Size (unframed) and Artist Phone Number. Only the painting number will appear on the Artwork. The artist will be responsible for providing the Ocean Ridge Commission to Nancy Flinn. Any artist who had two pieces accepted last year, but had only one displayed, will be exempt from paying an entrance fee for the 2016 show. Judged winners, prize money and cost associated with administration, advertising, promotion, judging etc. will be taken from the entrance fee collected from each artist. We very much hope all the wonderful participants from 2015 will again join with us to assure an even more successful 2016 exhibit. Two paintings were sold in 2015 of the 24 shown. One for: $850.00 and the other for: $999.00. We intend to do more aggressive promotion and marketing for the 2016 exhibit beginning in Nov. of this year to increase the sales potential for participating artists. The 6 artists that were recognized as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, in 2015 and three honorable mentions are displaying, multiple pieces of their art for sale as part of the pre-2016 exhibit promotion in Ocean Ridge Town Hall. Additionally, the judges from the 2015 show are also displaying their artwork. Please visit from mid-November through January. First Place: Irwin Goldman, Second Place: louise loranger, Third Place: Roxene Sloate. Judges: Beth Sloat and Max Matteson The CALL TO ARTISTS will be available in all local artists’ environments from Boca Raton to N. Palm Beach. We sincerely invite you to participate in this exciting event.
