At the Ordinary Meeting on 11th August 2016, new Parish Councillor Adrian Eveleigh was welcomed.
A member of the public raised con-cerns about the speed of some HGV vehicles travelling through Walpole Marsh. It is unclear if they are using this route for access or as a short-cut so the Parish Council advised that if it continues, to note the registration num-ber and report the issue to the Highways Department.
The Community Contribution from the Rose and Crown Solar Farm has now been received and will be used to fund projects within the Walpoles.
The erection of an additional plaque to go beneath the War Memorial Roll of Honour has been approved by the com-mittee of the Parish Hall. The cost of £156.00 was approved, and will be borne by, the Parish Council.
Councillor Whittaker reported that the
Open Day at the Community Centre went well and the Parish Council’s stand was well attended. Some ideas on how to make good use of the Commu-nity Contribution from the Solar Farm were received from parishioners, and these will be given consideration over the coming months.
The application to the Big Lottery Fund for financial assistance with the new playpark was unsuccessful but this will be re-submitted with additional information. Three Parish Councillors offered to lay the new bark to save la-bour costs.
The Parish Partnership Scheme was discussed. The TROD (arranged through this scheme) should have com-menced on 8th August but has again been delayed. The Parish Clerk will follow this up. The Parish Clerk was also asked to investigate the costs of ‘gateways’ to the village entrances/exits.
The Parish Council is keen to ensure that all parishioners are given the op-portunity to offer their ideas and views on future projects within the Walpoles and much thought was given to how to achieve this.
Borough Councillor Blunt advised that the Borough has now reached its 5 year land supply target. He also advised that he will try to get a date for the painting of the railings at the cemetery.
There was no report from the County Councillor, Fred Agnew.

The bus stop on West Drove needs cleaning and the Parish Clerk will gets quotes for this.
Councillors Broden and Luck, along with the Parish Clerk will meet to re-view risk assessments on 16th August.
At the Ordinary Meeting on 8th September 2016 two suggestions were retrieved from the suggestion box and were passed to the Councillor Luck for the Community Centre Committee to consider as they appeared to relate to the playing fields.
The Parish Clerk has been informed that work on the drainage outside of Sunnyside on Chalk Road is due to commence during week commencing 12th September and the TROD on Chalk Road is due to commence during week commencing 19th September.
The Parish Council’s response to the East Coast Community Fund Consulta-tion was completed during the meeting.
The external audit of accounts has been delayed due to the auditor having been inundated with audit requests.
A letter was received from a con-cerned parishioner regarding the poor state of maintenance of specific lanes in the Walpoles. After discussion, it was thought that the lanes in question are ‘green lanes’ and fall within the remit of Norfolk County Council.
The additional plaque for the War Memorial Roll of Honour in the Parish Hall has been ordered.
The War Memorial in St Peter’s Churchyard will soon be surveyed.
Several funding application for finan-cial assistance towards the new play-park have been submitted and we await the responses.
Ideas for potential projects under the Parish Partnership Scheme were dis-cussed and the idea of gateways at en-
trances/exits to the village were again raised. A questionnaire sent to all houses in the Parish using a business reply service was felt to be the best way of inviting all parishioners to offer their views and ideas on future projects. A sub-committee was appointed to design the questionnaire.
The footpath through St Andrew’s Churchyard is becoming overgrown again and the Parish Council will look at options to improve this.
As Borough Councillor Blunt was not present at the meeting, feedback on the status of the allotments behind Town-send Estate will be requested by the Parish Clerk.

FENLAND FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY
We enjoyed a very busy and successful September. Our Promotion Stand was out at various
events including a very pleasant day at Elgood’s Brewery for their Garden & Crafts Fair. Our
main display that day was all about Dr Horace Dimoke whose sudden death provoked the
infamous Wisbech Riots. For Heritage Weekend we were at three different venues. Our main
event was at St Augustine Church commemorating the Battle of the Somme in 1916, we re-
searched the lives of some of the Wisbech Soldiers who fought in the Great War. Some were
very interesting others very sad. At St Leonard’s Church in Leverington our special display
was of family ceremonies linked to the church – Christening, Wedding, and Funerals, with
many lovely photographs of weddings etc from the past plus the folklore behind these events.
We also had a stand at the event in the General Cemetery in Leverington Road Wisbech. Our
September meeting was our 16th AGM followed by a talk by Alan Johnson telling us how he
solved the mystery of his ancestor and gave us hints on solving our own brick walls.
We are now looking forward to a new venture for us with our first Family History Research
Day on Saturday 15th October in Wisbech Library from 10 – 3.30 p.m. DROP IN ANY TIME.
Experienced researchers including the archivist from Peterborough FHS will be on hand offer-
ing help with on-line national research, not matter where your family originates, using all the
library facility. Also help with researching the old local newspapers and historical informa-
tion. The librarians will help with looking up old maps and books of the area. In addition three
well known experts will offer help with Military History, plus Dating your old Photographs
and help understanding the origin of Surnames and Place names. We look forward to seeing
you there.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 27th October in St Peter’s Church Hall Wisbech 7 –
9p.m. Our speaker will be the well-known speaker Robert Parker his talk entitled The Lop-
sided Barge is the story of a farm labourer’s journey from Cambridgeshire to Essex to im-
prove his lot in life.
Our November meeting on Thursday 24th November will be our Festive Meeting as it is the
last before Christmas. The meeting will include participation from the members with stories
of their research into family history and family Christmas Traditions. We start 2017 on 4th
Thursday of the month on 26th January with special speaker Anne Barnes with her talk
‘Marriages through the Ages’ learning the customs of the past, some of them quite naughty.
Our family research sessions will be in Wisbech Library on the first Tuesday of the month
from 10 – 12 noon and again in Wyevale Garden Centre Crowland on the second Tuesday of
the month from 11 – 3.30 p.m. Our experienced researchers will be on hand to offer help with
your research. Everyone welcome.
Our Display stands will be out and about at various Church events. Our speaker will be at
the Crowland W.I. meeting in October and the Good Companions Club in Walpole St Peter in
November. Our researchers will be holding their usual monthly sessions on the first Tuesday
of the month in Wisbech Library from 10 – 12 noon and 2nd Tuesday of the month at Wyevale
in Crowland from 11 – 3.30 p.m.

Message from your Borough Councillor
I must start by offering my congratulations to Jody Cundy MBE who
has won two gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. We do not
have many Olympians and we should be very proud of the achieve-
ments of our local boy.
Now back to more mundane thoughts.
I was pleased to see the English Boundary Commission has decided to recommend that The
Walpoles remains in the parliamentary constituency of North West Norfolk and there are no
major changes in Norfolk although the total number of constituencies in the Eastern Region
falls by 1 to 57.
12 to 18 September was Recycle Week 2016 and would like to share some facts about recy-
cling in the Borough.
Residents of West Norfolk recycle plastic drinks bottles, food and drink cans, jam jars, card-
board boxes and newspapers, but ‘Unusual Suspects’ such as aerosol cans, foil trays, beauty
crème jars and toilet roll tubes are often missed. There are lots of places around the home
where ‘The Unusual Suspects’ can be found. For example what’s hiding in the bathroom or
bedroom? Paper and cardboard items such as toothpaste boxes and tissue boxes are lurking. If
everyone in the UK recycled one toothpaste box, it would save enough energy to run a fridge
in over 2,000 homes for a year.
Keep an eye out for aluminium deodorant and air freshener aerosol cans. If everyone in the
UK recycled one aluminium deodorant aerosol can, enough energy could be saved to vacuum
over 480,000 homes for a year. Or, if everyone in the UK recycled one air freshener aerosol
can, enough energy could be saved to run a fridge for over 91,000 homes for a year!
Taking a shower? The 'Unusual Suspect' might be in there with you. Plastic shampoo, shower
gel and moisturiser bottles can be recycled too. In the kitchen the 'Unusual Suspects' help to
keep things clean - washing up liquid bottles, soap dispensers, bleach bottles and spray clean-
ers can all be recycled. Just remember, it’s best to remove the trigger spray and pump dis-
penser tops, as these aren’t currently recycled.
We're also keen to ensure that people are not only recycling more, but recycling the right
materials. Placing items in the green bin, such as textiles or used nappies, that can't be recycled
increases the cost of recycling. Currently it is costing council tax payers in West Norfolk
around £1/4million per year to deal with items wrongly placed in the recycling bin. Money that
could be better spent on services people want to see.
Back to the local thoughts. The planning application for the land to the rear of Townsend
Estate has been rejected so hopefully we can now get some progress on the allotments in the
area. I am currently negotiating with the Borough officers on this matter.
I appreciate all the local support and if you think I can help do not hesitate to contact me.

" What is the difference between the Walpole Parish Council and the EU commis-
sion ?
Nothing , they are both run by unelected individuals who make decisions to sped our
money without any consultation .
Example . The 26 Grand they want to spend on a new Play Park when the existing
Play park is hardly ever used and has just had a New Fence put around it .
I checked on the Play Park throughout the School Holidays and found it was seldom
used !
And don't get me started on the so called Trod !

FOOTPATHS & BRIDLEWAYS There are many Footpaths & Bridleways in the Walpoles but they are not always
obvious. Norfolk County Council’s website has a very useful map which shows
where they all are.
If you wish to report any untidy or overgrown paths please contact Norfolk County
Council to report it or alternatively you can contact any of the Parish Councillors.
Many thanks Lynne Newman

This is quite an easy recipe as I use green curry paste that you can buy in supermarkets, so there’s not too much cooking involved!
2 Chicken Breasts
2 Tbsp Thai green curry paste
½ Tin of coconut milk
½ Chicken stock cube
140ml boiling water
90g easy cook couscous
150g frozen prawns, defrosted
20g frozen peas
2 spring onions chopped
2 tomatoes, deseeded and chopped
Olive oil
1tsp fresh herbs (basil and chives are my favourite)
Handful lettuce of your choice
1and half tbsp olive oil mixed with 1tsp lemon juice
Lay out the chicken breasts, season with salt and pepper and spread each one with a tbsp of the green curry paste and leave for 10 minutes.
Place couscous in a mixing bowl. Dissolve the half stock cube in the boiling water and pour over the couscous.
After 10 minutes, stir the couscous with a fork, then add prawns, peas, spring onions, tomatoes and herbs. Cover with cling film and set aside.
Heat a drizzle of oil in a non- stick pan then place chicken in the pan with the un marinated side down first and cook for 3-4 minutes. Turn over and cook for a further 2 minutes. Then add the coconut milk and leave to simmer gently for 20 to 30 mins depending on size of breasts. Turning once after half the cooking time.
Dress the salad leaves with half the oil and lemon. Pour the remaining over the couscous and mix well.
Oil 2 ramekins (4 inches in diameter) and divide couscous between them pressing it in well.
De-mould the ramekins by placing a plate on top of each one and inverting.
For presentation place a chicken breast next to the couscous and pour over some of the coconut juices from the pan on to the chicken, place a few of the dressed lettuce leaves on top of the ramekin of couscous and a few next to the chicken and serve.

News from Anthony Curton and Tilney All
Saints Primary Partnership Schools Well, another Academic Year has begun, and for all of us within the school community it’s as if we never broke up! As usual, the start to the new year is extremely busy, particularly for the 31 new little people who joined us at the start of their long school careers. They have settled extremely well. We con-tinue to enjoy a very successful partnership with our sister school at Tilney All Saints. We were delighted with the outcome of our Anglican School’s Statutory Inspection, which took place at the end of June. The school, as a Christian school, was judged overall to be a good school, which is outstanding at meet-ing the needs of all its learners, through its Christian distinctiveness. The effectiveness of the leadership and management of the school as a church school was also judged to be outstanding. A full copy of the report is posted on the school’s website, www.anthonycurton.norfok.sch.uk. Staffing within the school this year remains almost unchanged, but Miss Lindsay Hill has assumed the role of PE and Sport Co-ordinator, and Mrs Tracey Taylor takes over responsibility as Music Co-ordinator. We wish both ladies good luck – which we know they don’t actually need, both being ex-tremely competent and professional within their profession. Harvest Festival – you are more than welcome to join us at our Harvest Fes-tival Service, which will take place at Walpole St. Peter’s Church on Friday October 14th at 10.30am. Details of our Christmas Service will be included in the next issue. Finally, can I, on behalf of the staff and children, thank the many members of the local community who have, over the past year, emailed or written to us with such positive comments about our school, it is very much appreciated. Kind Regards, Anne Senior, Executive Head Teacher. Please note: MacMillan Coffee Morning. This will be held at Anthony Curton School (in the mobile) on Friday 21st Oc-tober between 9 and 11 a.m. There will be cakes, raffle 100 square, tea and coffee. Everyone welcome. Please come along and support this worthy cause. Yvonne Gant

News from the Walpole Gardeners Club. In May we welcomed Trevor Harrison with a talk entitled ‘Late Colour in the garden’. It was fascinating to see the many variations of colour and textures Trevor created with grasses and perennials. All of the plants were for sale after the talk. September 3
rd was the date of our Annual Flower and Produce Show. The
event was well attended with over 200 entries on the day. We were pleased that the new craft classes were well represented. The tombola was again a great success with some fabulous prizes. Cup winners were as follows: Vegetable Section – Michael Jermyn, Fruit section – Joe Rabicano, Hanging Basket- Anne Scott, Patio Pot – Lynne Newman, Flower Section – Gillian Gosling, Kitchen/Bakery – Swann Family, Art Photography – Margaret Greaves, Craft Birthday Card – Lesley Anderson, Craft Cross Stitch Christ-mas Card – Roz McLean, Craft Item Wood – Swann Family, Hand Made Jewellery item – Lynn Newman, Hand Knitted – Jill Harrington, Overall Win-ner Victor Ludorum Cup – Swann Family, Speciality Cup – Michael and An-gela Fox.
