Diocese is looking for members from each
parish to be on commissions that will aid the
ministry of the various diocesan directors and educate
parishioners in these respective areas. Each commission
will meet twice a year in a central location. The first
meeting for all of the commissions is August 12 from
9:00 AM to Noon at Fosston.
There are four commissions: Marriage and Family -
- Life and Justice -- Evangelization and Discipleship --
and Youth Ministry.
If you are interested in being on one of these commis-
sions please call Fr. John at the parish office - 463-2441.
Commission members will be invited to serve a three-
year term. Your participation will be a blessing to the
diocese and a blessing for you.
March Food Share Month For 35 years the March Campaign
has, with your help, restocked local
food shelves. Please bring nonper-
ishable food or monetary donations
to worship service during the month of March so to-
gether we can strive to #ENDHUNGER.
This week, we are taking up The Catholic Relief Services Collection
to respond to Jesus in disguise.
This collection helps six Catholic agencies to provide relief and support to struggling communities and to work toward peace and recon-ciliation among our marginalized brothers and sis-ters here and around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection. Learn more at www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.
Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure -- “Seek
first the kingdom of God -- This weekend Joe Noel
spoke about how God wants us to be givers who are
cheerful and unafraid.. -- “Unbelievers are always wor-
ried about what they’re going to eat, what they’re going to
wear, what the future is going to bring, and I say to you,
seek first the kingdom of God and his holiness and these
other things will be added as well, because your heavenly
Father knows you need them.” - Luke 12:28-31
One formula for tithing to aim for is:
5% to one’s parish - 1% to the diocese -
4%+ to charity.

Sacred Heart Building Project Update
The good news is that several more have responded
with accelerated pledge payments, but we are still
waiting for some who have not pledged or responded
to the building program appeal. We need to keep
praying that all see that is an urgent and necessary
upgrade and improvement needed for our building
after 50 years of living in it. If we can reach
$650,000 in cash on hand we basically can begin the
reduced-size project. Right now, with recent pledge
payments and gifts we have about $385,000 in cash
and gifts out of $714,000 pledged.
Please keep praying for the project and speak to me, Fr.
John (463-2441) (confidential) if you have questions.

Questions for the Road Home/Dinner Table
“As Jesus passed by he saw a man blind from
birth. . . . . . and said to him, “Go wash in the
pool of Siloam.” So he went and washed and
came back able to see.” -- John 9: 1-6
Jesus went out to the blind man. Although there was a
crowd around because of the feast days going on, Jesus
would take time to do whatever he could to help. Each
person, Jesus shows us, is worthy of dignity no matter
who he or she is. Like the people who challenged Jesus’
actions and the man’s belief, we too, can choose to stay in
our blindness or we can choose to receive the gift of sight.
Describe a situation where blindness may have kept
you or someone else from taking an opportunity to
connect with others. What enabled you to overcome
such blindness?
How do you see our community reaching out to indi-
viduals who may be on the edge of life?
May 12-13, 2017 --This year St. Philip’s in
Bemidji will be 1 of 30 host sites WORLDWIDE for the New Evangelization Summit! What is the New Evangelization Summit? A two-day conference that will bring together speakers who are leaders in the New Evangelization to provide inspiration, encouragement, training, practical wis-dom and resources on how Catholics can effectively evangelize. All Catholics – pastors and the lay faith-ful – will greatly benefit from this powerful opportu-nity to be further equipped in the fundamental mis-sion of the Church. Who is speaking? Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles; Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT, missionary with the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, Fr. Mi-chael White, priest in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and co-author of “Rebuilt and Tools for Rebuilding”; Peter Herbeck, TV (Crossing the Goal on EWTN) and radio host, and author, plus, more! How do I sign up? Register for the two-day event streamed to Bemidji, MN from Ottawa, Ontario by visiting https://www.newevangelization.ca/#price
Sacred Heart Finance Council Notes from Mar. 20
1. Latest finance report shows us on budget.
2. New tri-parish website about ready. Ann and Pat
will look it over for any suggestions they might have.
3. The Capital Campaign is moving forward a little as
some did make an effort to speed up their pledge pay-
ments but so far we have not received other needed
pledges or donations that would allow us to consider
beginning the building phase.
4. We had a date in May for the financial planning and
end-of-life issues seminar but it conflicted with events
in the community. Will try for another date.
5. Joe Noel will be here this next weekend for a talk at
all Masses on stewardship. We will also do a time and
talent survey.
6. Latest DAA report shows that we are over our goal.
7. The council asked Fr. John to convene the building
and grounds committee to review current repair or re-
placement needs.
8. The pastoral council needs to set a date for the church
floor cleaning and waxing and general cleaning.
9. Focus Corp. is now scheduled to do light overall
cleaning quarterly. Bob Johnson does the weekly sur-
face cleaning and maintenance. The general cleaning
would cover the special annual or more difficult clean-
ing areas such as pews or waxing floors, dusting or
cleaning higher areas or windows.
10. Fr. John has a list of smaller projects that he put out
for parishioners to take on.
11. We had serious fall on some ice at the end of the
sidewalk recently. The sidewalks were generally bare,
but snow had melted from the banks on the sides and
froze during the night and then got covered by snow.
Thankfully they seem to be recovering pretty well and
insurance has covered their medical needs. However, if
you notice ice on the sidewalk at any time, please take
care of it or let the parish know immediately.
12. Year-end report for the last fiscal year is about
ready to be published.
13. Agreed to remove and patch over the AC unit and
hole in the rectory living room wall. We now have cen-
tral air conditioning for the rectory and offices.
14. Next meeting: Monday May 8 at 5:15 PM.
