About the Keynote Speaker  

J. RICHARD MIDDLETON Professor of Biblical Worldview and Exegesis, Northeastern Seminary 

J. Richard Middleton is Professor of Biblical Worldview and Exegesis at Northeastern Seminary, on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. He also serves as adjunct Professor of Old Testament at the 

Caribbean Graduate School of Theology in Kingston, Jamaica. He has been president of the Canadian Evangelical Theological Associa on since 2011. 

He holds a B.Th. from Jamaica Theological Seminary, an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Guelph (Canada), and a Ph.D. in Theology from the Free University in Amsterdam. 

While in Canada he coauthored (with Brian Walsh) The Transforming Vision (InterVarsity Press, 1984) and Truth is Stranger Than It Used to Be (InterVarsity Press/SPCK, 1995). The former book has been published in Korean, French, Indonesian, Spanish, and Portuguese. The la er book received a Book‐of‐the‐Year award (1996) from Chris anity Today magazine and has been published in Korean. 

He has authored The Libera ng Image (Brazos Press, 2005), which has been translated into Korean, and co‐edited a volume of essays, A Kairos Moment for Caribbean Theology (Pickwick/Wipf & Stock, 2013). His new book on eschatology, en tled A New Heaven and a New Earth, is forthcoming from Baker Academic,  and he is working on 1 and 2 Samuel for the Abingdon Old Testament  Commentary series.  

Before beginning at Northeastern Seminary in 2011, Middleton taught at  Roberts Wesleyan College for ten years, and before that at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (Rochester, NY), Redeemer University College (Ancaster, ON), and the Ins tute for Chris an Studies (Toronto, ON). He has also served  as campus minister at two universi es in Canada (the University of Guelph and Brock University) and two in the United States (Syracuse University and the University of Rochester). 

Richard is married to Marcia, his teenage sweetheart, and they have two sons, Andrew and Kevin. Due to their mixed cultural and na onal heritage, they consider themselves “Jamericadians.”

The Canadian Evangelical Theological Associa on (CETA) seeks to provide a forum for scholarly contribu ons to the renewal of theology and church in Canada. 

Members include interested academics, pastors and lay people. 

The Associa on promotes theological work that seeks to be loyal to Jesus Christ and His Gospel, faithful to the primacy of Scripture, and responsive to the guiding force of the Chris an church. 

The annual mee ng of the associa on is usually held in conjunc on with the Canadian Congress of the Social Sciences and Humani es. The 2014 annual mee ng will be on Sunday, May 25 at Brock University, St. Catharines, ON. 

The associa on also holds regional theology conferences each Fall in conjunc on with a theological college or seminary.  

Membership in CETA includes a subscrip on to Canadian Theological Review.

Call for Papers Canadian Evangelical Theological Associa on

The Execu ve of the Canadian Evangelical Theological Associa on (CETA) welcomes proposals for papers to be presented at the May 25, 2014 Annual Mee ng to be held in conjunc on with the Canadian Congress of the Humani es and Social Sciences at Brock University, in St. Catharines, ON. 

CETA encourages submission of high quality papers on any topic of theological relevance to Canadian Evangelicalism. The theme for this year's Congress is Borders Without Boundaries (h p://brockucongress2014.ca/). Papers which address this theme in rela on to Canadian Evangelicalism are encouraged. 

Papers should be scholarly but not highly specialized presenta ons of about 25 minutes, aimed at an audience of scholars from across the spectrum of theological disciplines, including biblical studies and historical, systema c, moral, and pastoral theology. Proposals from graduate students are welcome. 

Proposed  tles, along with an abstract of approximately 250 words, should be accompanied by a short CV. To facilitate anonymous review of proposals, please do not include your name in the actual proposal. Instead you should include name, ins tu onal affilia on, contact informa on, and paper  tle in your email or in a separate file from your paper proposal. All proposals should be submi ed electronically to the address below in Word, .RTF, or .ODT format by January 31, 2014. Please en tle your email “CETA 2014 Paper Proposal.” Papers chosen for par cipa on will be no fied by March 1, 2014.

This January Northeastern Seminary (NES) will start offering graduate level courses toward Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees in Albany, N.Y. This is part of an expanding distance educa on program that started with classes in Buffalo in 2010 and Syracuse in 2012 and that con nues in service to the greater New York State capital region. The courses are offered via video conferencing in which the community of learners in Albany, Buffalo, and Syracuse are linked through live video feed to Northeastern’s main campus in Rochester, N.Y.   

The PolyCom interac ve video distance learning technology allows for mul direc onal streaming so professors can teach from any loca on and engage students through lecture and mul media resources at each site, and students can interact with each other as well. This classroom format is integrated with on‐site small group interac ons and periodic chapel services to enhance community and provide instruc on in spiritual forma on, a dis nc ve of the NES educa on.
