Is there an age limit for kids on social media?

Most social media services and apps require users to be 13 years old to join.

Why 13? This is usually to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of

1998 (COPPA)—a US law preventing the collection and storage of personal

information from a child under 13.

Happy Easter!

Our term is fast coming to an end; however, we are fortunate to be presented with a 4 day long weekend to

celebrate Easter. This is a time to re-charge our batteries and spend valuable time with your family. I wish all

families an enjoyable break; all be it short!

Kind Regards,

Stuart Miller

Room 11 Biological Sciences

This term in Room 11 as part of our Year 5/6 Science learning we have been learning about

Animal Adaptations.

Our class has been researching the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo. This is an endangered bird

that lives in the South East. It has many adaptations that helps it survive in its environment, but

also make it vulnerable.

We were lucky enough to go on an excursion in week 6 to Wandillo and Hacket Hill Native

Forest reserves with Mr Elkins and Ange, to learn more about the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo

and hopefully see one in the wild.

We learnt about the habitat the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo needs to survive. In order to nest

and lay an egg it needs a hollowed out tree. We also learnt about the types of food the Red

Tailed Black Cockatoo needs to survive. They only eat the seeds of the brown and desert

stringy bark tree. We found some and were able to look at its seeds and leaves.

In Week 7 Bronwyn Perryman from the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo Recovery Project came out

to our class. Bronwyn spoke the adaptations these birds have. She even brought along a

taxidermied specimen

FUN IN THE GARDEN

Over the past few weeks, various

students have helped harvest the

crops from the garden.

Students have been able to eat fresh

corn from cob, devour eggy bread

from the schools chook eggs, and also

peel the delicious apples to create a

fabulous apple crumble which was

enjoyed by all.

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 18TH MAY 2018

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking

as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for

many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

- Walking with them the whole way to school

- If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop

- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like

obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great

opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday

18th May 2018!
