Introduction

According to the experts, there are roughly fifteen different kinds of love: Infatuation,

romantic, passionate, companionate, unconditional, conditional, puppy, maternal,

paternal, self-love, spiritual, soul mate, love of your country or patriotism, brotherly love,

tough love … oh, and as an extra bonus, let’s not overlook love of life itself!

While it is human nature to equate love with romance and commitment, the place to

start is within yourself; for unconditional love begins by understanding the most

important relationship you will ever have in this life - the relationship you have with

yourself.

Learning how to cultivate the love within helps us to become better life partners, better

parents and better friends. It helps us to recover from stress more quickly and have

better overall health and well-being. Our relationships overall become more fulfilling

and we are more magnetic to all forms of love.

If my love of quotations has taught me anything it is this - there are very few

experiences in life that are completely unique, that someone else hasn't faced before …

from the butterflies of first love, to the passion of romance to the heartache of a break-

up, to the comfort of true, unwavering friendship.

The perspective of someone who has gone though a similar situation and learned

insightful lessons can simply be invaluable to touch our hearts and remind us of the

things that truly matter in life.

Words of Wisdom on Life & Love contains hundreds of carefully selected inspirational

quotations and life lessons to warm the heart and soothe the soul.

I hope you will enjoy the quotations. Share them … let them motivate and inspire you,

and whenever you feel the need for encouragement return to them.

Here’s to living and loving your life!

Warmest regards,

Marquita (Marty) Herald

depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the world is

transformed.

Love. Changes. Everything.

We live in a world that adores passion, romance and love stories. Romantic love is our

inspiration, our motivation, and our reason for being. We idealize visions of true love

found in an instant, across a crowded room—or tomorrow, just around the corner. So

strong is this feeling that songs praise it as the stuff that makes the world go around.

Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

~Franklin P. Jones

There is no remedy for love but to love more. ~Henry David Thoreau

Love is based on our capacity to trust in a reality beyond fear, to trust a timeless truth

bigger than all our difficulties. ~Jack Kornfield

The virtue of true love is not finding the perfect person, but loving the imperfect person

perfectly. ~Author Unknown

If love is a game, it has to be the hardest game in the world. After all, how can anyone

win a game when there are no rules?! ~Author Unknown

Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh

uncontrollably. And never regret anything that makes you smile. ~Mark Twain

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives

you courage. ~Lao Tzu

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot

and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and

our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable. ~Bruce Lee

Immature love says: 'I love you because I need you.' Mature love says 'I need you

because I love you. ~Erich Fromm

A very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love. ~Stendhal

You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived

are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love. ~Henry Drummond

Looking back, I have this to regret, that too often when I loved, I did not say so. ~David

Grayson

If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a

friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's

nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way

down. ~Ray Bradbury

Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they

choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you. ~Wayne Dyer

One's life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of

love, friendship, indignation and compassion. ~Simone de Beauvoir

Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time... It tells us to tell each other right now

that we love each other. ~Leo Buscaglia

About all you can do in life is to be who you are. Some people will love you for you.

Most will love you for what you can do for them, and some won't like you at all. ~Rita

Mae Brown

Love is to let the one we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our

own image... otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them. ~Author

Unknown

Love is the doorway through which the human soul passes from selfishness to service

and from solitude to kinship with all mankind. ~Author Unknown

Love is a tender plant; when properly nourished, it becomes sturdy and enduring, but

neglected it will soon wither and die. ~Hugh B. Brown

Love is more than three words mumbled before bedtime. Love is sustained by action, a

pattern of devotion in the things we do for each other every day. ~Nicholas Sparks

Love means the courage to expose yourself to the potential pains of being hurt, deeply

hurt by someone you trust. ~Renita Weems

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not

puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no

evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all

things, hopes all things, endures all things. ~The New King James Version Bible

Love is the most durable power in the world. This creative force is the most potent

instrument available in mankind’s quest for peace and security. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

Love is not simply a feeling of romantic excitement; it is more than a desire to marry a

potential partner; it goes beyond intense sexual attraction; it exceeds the thrill at having

“captured” a highly desirable social prize. Real love is an expression of the deepest

appreciation for another human being; it is awareness of his or her needs and longings-

past, present and future. It is unselfish, giving and caring. ~Dr. James C. Dobson

Perfect love is rare indeed - for to be a lover will require that you continually have the

subtlety of the very wise, the flexibility of the child, the sensitivity of the artist, the

understanding of the philosopher, the acceptance of the saint, the tolerance of the

scholar and the fortitude of the certain. ~Leo Buscaglia

What we need to know about loving is no great mystery. We all know what constitutes

loving behavior; we need but act upon it, not continually question it. Over-analysis often

confuses the issue and in the end brings us no closer to insight. We sometimes become

too busy classifying, separating, and examining, to remember that love is easy. It's we

who make it complicated. ~Leo Buscaglia

Love means to commit oneself without guarantee, to give oneself completely in the

hope that our love will produce love in the loved person. Love is an act of faith, and

whoever is of little faith is also of little love. ~Erich Fromm

Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it

subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have

so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is

what love is. ~Louis de Berniéres

I believe that love expands. As you give love out, it's received and reciprocated—and it

grows. That's the beauty of it. ~Hill Harper

To be your friend was all I ever wanted; to be your lover was all I ever dreamed.

~Valerie Lombardo

When I say, “I love you,” it’s not because I want you or because I can’t have you. It has

nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I’ve seen your

kindness and your strength. I’ve seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand

with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You’re a hell of a woman. ~Joss Whedon

learn to play from the heart. ~Author Unknown

Love simply is – it asks no permissions. Acceptance is all love asks, the only demand it

makes, but it is an absolute one. You can either admit it to your heart or refuse it, but

there’s no other option. ~Stephanie Laurens

The most precious possession that ever comes to a man in this world is a woman’s

heart. ~Josiah G. Holland

Be gentle: What you’re holding is my heart. ~Nicholas Gordon

first, but keeps you warm for a long time. ~Author Unknown
