TRANSCRIPT
Last Friday 15th March, Hillsborough Public School joined more than 5000 schools across the nation to take a stand against bullying and violence. The National Day of Action is Australia's key anti-bullying event for schools. This was a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions. With a focus on promoting ‘upstander rather than bystander’ behaviours across the school students focused on activities that promote kindness, cooperation and looking out for one another. Our day culminated with every student and staff member contributing their handprint to our ‘Kindness Tree’ mural facing our back playground. This bright and positive mural has created a lot of excitement with our students and sends a very important message to all.
Harmony Day This Thursday 21st March 2019, Hillsborough Public School will be acknowledging Harmony Day. Harmony Day is all
about celebrating Australia’s diversity. On this day we will acknowledge and celebrate inclusiveness, respect and
belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. Mrs Dubojski is currently collecting entries
for the Harmony Day Poster Competition in which Students are encouraged to visually articulate their interpretation of
the 2019 theme: ‘Harmony – it’s up to us’.
P&C AGM Please don’t forget that our P&C will hold their AGM on Monday 25th March. I would like to take the opportunity to
firstly congratulate and say a huge thank you to the outgoing members who have made a tremendous contribution to
our school. We have been extremely fortunate to have such an active and hardworking P&C who support the school in
many endeavours. We look forward to welcoming all new members and encourage our whole community to take the
opportunity to help our P&C continue to drive the wonderful opportunities and events they put in place to support our
great school.
New Fence Over the coming weeks our school will be having a new front fence installed. There will be contractors working at the front of the school with safety fencing erected to ensure the site is clear for pedestrian access for students coming to and from school as per usual. The upgrading of the fence will provide further security to our school and we are looking forward to its installation.

Term 1 Week 8 20 March 2019
CHESS NEWS Last Friday a group of 15 Year 6 students competed in the Primary Division of the Interschool One-Day Chess Tournament held at Fletcher. It was a tough day but we had some triumphant moments. Unfortunately we didn't score in the top three winning schools but we remained competitive, some of our players achieving four wins out of the six rounds played. We all vastly improved our chess skills, versing players from other schools and observing their tactics, we're anticipating a thrilling chess season. By Erika and Blake

Over the last few weeks, many Stage 3 students have been doing our school proud at sporting trials across the region. All reports have highlighted that our students have performed very well athletically as well as displaying the behaviour expected of students of HPS.
We congratulate:
Isaac W and Bailey L (Rugby League)
Addie P, Lily S, Eloise D and Hannah M (Netball)
Tom M, Cooper S and Callan P (Soccer)
Chelsea D, Sophia C and Imogen N (Soccer)
In addition we wish Rory G the very best when he heads to Sydney early next month for the State Swimming Carnival.
Woo, New & You
On 7 March, 20 of our Year 6 students went to Newcastle University to watch Woo, New and
You. We arrived at the university at 12:20 and Mrs Cambourn went inside to sign us in. We
were very excited which took our minds off the hundreds of mosquitoes that were attacking
us.
Inside the Great Hall, we took our pens out and started doing the activities that had been
given us. Everybody started an Eddie Woo chant and he came up the front. Before he came
onto the stage we heard other talks from people involved in communications and the
sciences.
After the talks we were able to meet Eddie and the other speakers and get our books signed.
All 20 students came back very excited to tell their parents of their adventure.

WE
NEED
YOU! Did you know, being involved with the P & C doesn’t mean you are going to
be lumped with a full time job? We know you are busy, and we value any
time that you donate to helping us co-ordinate events and raise funds to
provide your child with the best resources for their education!
Our P & C do amazing work and have helped contribute to bettering the
resources available for your children, such as purchasing new smart boards,
more home readers, replacing air conditioners in classrooms and obtaining a
grant worth over $17,000 to contribute to the replacement of the soft fall in
the play area.
It’s not what your school can do for you,
it’s what you can do for your school! We love new ideas and thrive on feedback! Much like our children, each
parent can bring their own set of skills to assist the P&C! So, please! Join us
on at the AGM March 25 in the Staffroom and show us what you can bring!
P & C NEWS
