Academic Advising (10:45 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 1:45 pm)

Academic Advisors support learners accepted into Career Programs, Academic Upgrading, and English

Language Learning Programs. It is an optional service that is available for learners who need assistance with

planning a path to reach their academic goals. Learners also receive information that will assist their decision

making toward academic success while laying a foundation for future career success. Learn about self-

registration, important dates, MyBVC, other helpful tips, and when you should see an Academic Advisor.

Being a Successful Student and Parent (11:30 am and 1:45 pm)

Are you a student and a parent? Join our discussion on balancing parenting and school responsibilities,

planning for different scenarios, such as what to do when your child gets sick, and what to look for in good

childcare.

Attend this session to get tips on how to interview for jobs before you graduate and how to get a part-time

Stress Comes with School: How to Deal With It ((10:45 am and 1:00 pm)

You may not have signed up for it, but stress comes along with being a student, and if you are not sure how

to manage it, life can become pretty challenging. Come and learn some strategies and skills that will help

you identify, organize, and deal effectively with common school stressors, and find out about free re-

sources and services at BVC that can help make your academic goals a reality!

Learn about your health insurance benefits, how to do family add-ons, and how to opt out if you're already

covered by another plan. Get informed and find out more about the Health and Dental deadlines.

Student Loans: What You Need to Know (10:45 am, 11:30 am and 1:45 pm)

Did you apply for a student loan? Join us and learn about your responsibilities, reporting changes to the

government, processing loan documents, appeals, and loan repayment information.

NOTE: This session is for students enrolled in career programs.

Writing TOWES (WES at BVC) (10:45 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 1:45 pm)

Attend this session to understand more about workplace essential skills and how you can certify your

essential skills for employers. As a new student, you can use TOWES to receive timely feedback about

your literacy and essential skills. Learn how these skills help you achieve success at school, at work and in

your community. If you are registered in a Chiu School of Business, School of Health and Wellness, or a

School of Community Studies and Creative Technologies certificate or diploma program 30 weeks or

longer, you can write TOWES.
