Solar Technician Associate Boot Camp August 6-10, 2018

This course will introduce you to photovoltaic (PV) design, installation, and maintenance of PV systems. The classroom theory and hands-on training will cover the following learning objectives:

Nature Photography Workshop$449

During this workshop you will have ample opportunity to work on grand landscapes, intimate landscapes, macro shots and panoramas. The lecture will cover equipment, shooting techniques and composition. This class is geared to intermediate and advanced level photographers, but beginners that have a good grasp on camera basics are welcome. Victoria has led workshops for over 10 years and has been shooting up in the mountains for over 17 years in all seasons. You will follow Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway to some of Victoria’s favorite spots. Equipment: DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode options, a Tripod circular polarizer filter, and a tripod. Note: Carpooling for field trips is encouraged.A National Park Pass is required for this class.Field trip sessions are scheduled the evening of Friday, June 1, the morning and evening of Saturday, June 2 and the morning and evening of Sunday, June 3. Summer Travel Photography Series $299Want to take interesting and memorable travel images? This class emphasizes travel and street photography through five lecture and critique sessions and four field trips. Lectures teach technical and compositional techniques for this style of photography. Then you’ll head to the downtown mall each week to put what you learned into practice. Each student will give a themed presentation at the final class. This class will prepare you for capturing great images on your next vacation. Course requirements: DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode options. A tripod with off-camera flash is helpful but not required. You must know how to use your camera in the manual modes (manual, aperture and shutter priority) or have taken Intermediate Photography. Students should also know how to download and email images for critique/review sessions. CPR: BLS for Healthcare Provider: Complete Class CT

$95BLS for Healthcare Providers is an American Heart Association course designed to provide a wide variety of certified or noncertified, licensed or non-licensed, health care professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures. This course includes the skills of CPR, use of an AED and relief of choking for adults, children and infants. CPRCPR AED/First Aid or BLS for Healthcare Provider : Skills Check Only CT

$55PVCC offers monthly skills checks for your CPR certification. This is a two-hour, hands-on skills practice and testing session (Parts 2 and 3) with an American Heart Association instructor that follows the Online Part 1 course. To complete Part 1, visit www.onlineaha.org/courses. Click on BLS-Basic Life Support then click Heartcode BLS. (There is a separate fee for Part 1) Students who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate, which they print out and present to the instructor at the skills and testing session. A course completion card will be issued upon successful completion of all three parts. Fee includes certification card. This 136-hour state approved noncredit class prepares you to take the Virginia exam to become a certified nurse aide (CNA) where you will work under the supervision of a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, or physician as an entry-level nurse aide in a variety of inpatient and outpatient care settings such as long-term care facilities, physician offices, clinics and home settings. This class will prepare students who have passed the first year of accredited RN courses or a Virginia Board of Nursing Approved Nurse Aide Training class to take the Virginia Nurse Aide exam. The six-hour class will review exam-specific test taking strategies, steps to accurately complete the skills assessment and registration/test day procedures so students will have better preparation for success in passing the exam. Medication Aide$1,101

Successful completion of PVCC’s Medication Aide Training Program meets the requirements of the Virginia Board of Nursing for a student to be eligible to sit for the state exam to become a Registered Medication Aide (RMA). This program will cover topics such as legal and ethical issues; preparing for safe administration of medication; introduction to pharmacology; administration of prepared instillations and treatments (oral medications, eye, ear, nose, etc.); documentation, storage, and disposal of medications; special issues in medication administration; and insulin administration. Students will be required to have 100% attendance in both class and clinical, provide a copy of their active, unrestricted Virginia CNA certificate, and submit a background check, drug screen, and PPD (negative TB testing) prior to start of class. Pharmacy Tech Program with Clinical Externship

$1,599Prepare to become a pharmacy technician in a retail setting. Study the fundamentals of the pharmacy, as well as the role of a pharmacy technician. See how to process a prescription, create non-sterile compounds, and ensure proper medication safety and management. Additional topics include pharmaceutical measurements and dosage calculations, basic medication safety, types of drugs, the activities of the community and institutional pharmacy, non-sterile compounding, sterile procedures and practices, and therapeutic agents. You will also identify career options for pharmacy technicians and steps in the job search process. This program includes an externship. Upon successful completion of this course, you may sit for the ExCPT exam offered by the National Healthcare Association. This certification allows you to apply for Virginia registration as a pharmacy technician. Please research prospective employers to see if they require a certification. National Center for Construction Education Resources (NCCER) Courses

Coming this fall!NCCER Core CraftThe NCCER core curriculum is a prerequisite to all Level 1 and beyond craft curriculum. Class modules cover topics such as basic safety, communication skills and introduction to construction drawings.

NCCER Electrical Levels 1-4 (9th Edition)To prepare trainees a career in the electrical field, NCCER offers a comprehensive, four-level electrical curriculum that complies with DOL time-based standards for apprenticeship.

NCCER Plumbing Levels 1-4Plumbers install, maintain, and repair many different types of pipe systems. Some systems move water to a municipal water treatment plant and then to residential, commercial, and public buildings. Other systems dispose of waste, provide gas to stoves and furnaces, or supply air conditioning. Pipe systems in power plants carry the steam that powers huge turbines. Also includes the State Building Code, types of licenses, prohibited acts, business structure, and more. Class cost includes a manual. $2,100Offered in partnership with the National Apartment Association Education institute (NAAEI) and the Virginia Apartment Management Association (VAMA), this 83-hour class includes classroom sessions, hands-on experience, and an online component. The class will provide you with the knowledge and hands-on training to gain entry and advance as a maintenance technician in the residential property or commercial building industry throughout the U.S. At the end of this course, you are eligible to sit for the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) Certification Exam. Students that pass the CAMT exam will receive their provisional certificate from NAAEI. After completing one year of experience in the industry, NAAEI will grant students their full certificate.Note: Financial aide may be available for this class. Certified Pipe Welding CT$3,744

Certification training consists of 112 hours and includes classroom lecture, practice and final test. Prerequisite: Two to three years experience in stick welding and have a 3G (vertical up) certification and or able to pass a 3G (vertical up) certification before taking the course. Upon successful completion of the course and passing the test, students will be A.W.S. QC7-93 certified for pipe welding. Primary emphasis will be on stick welding, properly known as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Classes must be taken in order. Topics include the basics of pipe welding using 6010 and 7018 electrodes, welding full penetration groove welds in the 2G (vertical), 5G (horizontal fixed) and 6G (inclined) positions, and prepping and fitting techniques. Testing will take place in the 6G (inclined) position.
