Issues To AddressRecWell is unable to expand its outdoor intramural sports program, due to limited facility space. For outdoor team sports, games are nowscheduled until 1 a.m. five nights a week, and many teams are on waitlists.‐ 2017 RecWell Annual Report

• Facilities Management Planning  staff evaluated 10 campus core site options & presented to Facilities Council 

• Options considered by Facilities Council in winter 2017• Facilities Council asked staff to look at other options• Staff recommend golf course site as preferred option; presented to VPAF

• VPAF gathers feedback from community• Independent Site Review Committee considers recommendation(s)

• Possible Facilities Council consideration December, 2018

Why Choose This Site?• Adequate space (235 acres), much is cleared of trees• Good location (5‐10 min. walk from most campus residences)

• Already dedicated to recreation use• Repurposes only part of the course

• Golf course remains in service with at least 9‐holes• UMD golf teams do not compete there; practice will continue

• ~20% of golf rounds played by students, faculty and staff

• Potential for pervious (more sustainable) parking
