From the Parish Priest Our parish now has its own blog/website:
www.annerleyekibinparish.com. I hope people will find it a useful resource. The Sunday Newsletters can be found there, homilies, other news items, and links to the parish’s Facebook and Twitter pages. One feature is that you can submit your email address, and then you will be notified immediately of updates. Have a look some time, so that you can see what’s there should you need it.
The children who are currently preparing for their first celebration of the Sacrament of Penance will take part in a Rite of Commitment at several of our Masses this weekend. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers at this important time.
This Friday is a special day for our country as we celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Mary of the Cross (MacKillop). We will have Mass at the normal time, but all are also welcome and invited to a special Mass with the Archbishop in the Cathedral at 10:00am. Morning Tea will follow Mass in the Cathedral Precinct, and there will be stalls showing the work of various Archdiocesan ministries. There will be a collection at the Mass to support the Mary MacKillop Brisbane Catholic School Access Fund. You may RSVP to [email protected], or just turn up. We ask God’s continued blessings on the Sisters of Saint Joseph as we celebrate this feast of their foundress.
The following Friday is another important feast day: the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. This day is a holy day of obligation, meaning that we have the same obligation to participate in the celebration of Mass as we do every Sunday. On Friday August 15th, we will transfer the venue of the morning Mass to Saint John Fisher to allow for the numbers, and Mass will be at the normal Friday time of
7:00am. There will also be a second Mass at Mary Immaculate at 9:00am.
This coming Saturday morning the Our Lady’s College Annerley Past Pupils’ Association is celebrating a 50th Anniversary Memorial Mass at Mary Immaculate at 10:00am. In this anniversary year we continue to pray God’s blessings on the College community and all that it does.
Our Parish Finance Council continues to watch closely our finances so that we can meet our obligations. We are most grateful to those of you who regularly contribute from your resources. In the coming weeks we’ll be presenting to you the current “state of affairs,” and asking you to pledge in the Planned Giving Programme. We particularly encourage those who are not currently Planned Givers to join the programme. We also recognize that we need to find some ways of raising funds from “beyond the walls of the church” - because those of us who are already giving can only give so much.
To that end, this week we are launching a minor art union. Please see the handout inserted in today’s newsletter (or on pages 5 and 6 of the e-version). There are five cash prizes, including $1000, and a jackpot prize of up to $2640 (depending on the number of tickets sold). In addition to taking a ticket for yourself, it’d be wonderful if you could share the leaflet with other friends or family members who might be interested in purchasing a ticket and trying their luck. There are extra copies of the flyer at the back of the church, and you can download and print them from the parish website.
On Friday 12th September at Mary Immaculate at 7:00pm we will celebrate a special Marriage Anniversary Mass. We especially invite couples celebrating anniversaries this year ending in “0” or “5” to take part. If you can be part of this Mass, please contact the parish office to register.
