QEC Rotating Outage Schedule IQALUIT, Nunavut (August 29, 2011) –QEC is currently dealing with an unpredictable and unpreventable engine component failure which has forced the corporation to plan rotating outages for Iqaluit. Due to switching issues, QEC was unable to bring Feeders 5, 7 and 8 online at 1:00 PM as scheduled. As such, the corporation has updated the rotating outage schedule. The new outage schedule is as follows: Outage Schedule August 29, 2011 6:00 PM Feeder 6 ON Feeder 5,7,8 OFF 10:00 PM Feeder 5,7,8 ON Feeder 6 OFF August 30, 2011 2:00 AM Feeder 6 ON Feeders 5,7,8 OFF 6:00 AM Feeders 5,7,8 ON Feeder 6 OFF 10:00 AM Feeder 6 ON Feeders 5,7,8 OFF 2:00 PM Feeders 5,7,8 ON Feeder 6 OFF 6:00 PM Feeder 6 ON Feeders 5,7,8 OFF

10:00 PM Feeders 5,7,8 ON Feeder 6 OFF Feeder 6 includes the downtown area, Plateau subdivision, Justice Building, NAC. Feeders 5, 7 and 8 are Happy Valley, Tundra Ridge, Tundra Valley, Road to Nowhere, and Apex. Feeders 1 and 2 will also be rotating power every 2 hours until further notice. Feeder 1 feeds Northmart and surrounding area. Feeder 2 feeds Arctic Ventures and surrounding area. Feeder 2 will be back online at 5:00 PM, and rotations on those Feeders will continue every 2 hours as required.

QEC is asking that people conserve as much energy as possible, by minimizing their use of household electronics, appliances and lights while they have access to power. The City of Iqaluit has asked that those businesses and residences on trucked water conserve their water. QEC apologizes for the inconvenience and frustration that the outage has caused to our customers. Pending delivery of components, QEC anticipates full restoration of power by Wednesday.
