There has been low rainfall in

    Kawlin, Wuntho and Pinlebu

    in Sagaing Region this year.

    A sharp drop in paddy

    output has eaused a major

    headache for local paddy

    merchants.Al though Kawlin ,

Low rainfall disrupts paddy outputWuntho and Pinlebu were

    once recognized as granaries

    of the Region each year,

    unfavourable weather

    patterns, outow of torrent

    water and ooding led to

the fall in paddy output and

closure of rice mills in theareas.

    Moreover, although

    rice of Kawlin, Wuntho

    and Pinlebu were once

    transported to Myitkyina,

Thriving chilli plantations in Monywaplantations which are grown

    A chilli grower said

    that onions were grown in

    previous years in accord with

    the border market demand.

    This years rst priority was

    growing of chilli; that Chilli

    growing was easier than

    onion growing; and that there

    was no signicant difference

    between the two winter

    crops. Chilli plantations

    are thriving at Monywa

    Pictures of Bogyoke hang in

    Several of Bogyoke

Jerusalem, 12 DecAnexcavation of an ancient vil-lage in the north of Israel hasunearthed hundreds of arti-facts linking the residentsupper class to Mesopotamiaand other distant civiliza-tions.

Archaeologist Yair Mi-levski, who headed the exca-vation together with NimrodGetzov at the Ein Tziporisite, near Nazareth, toldXinhua on Monday that thisdiscovery helps understandStone Age upper class socie-ty and commerce in the area.

We discovered somekind of elite part of societythat lived in this village andwho were in contact withother cities in the northernLevant even in Anatolia

and Mesopotamia, Milevskisaid. The artifacts unearthedbelong to the Calcolithic pe-riod, over seven millenniaago, and have been identied

as a part of the local WadiRabah culture.

    The nd revealed that

this culture had strong com-mercial ties with other cul-tures as distant as Mesopota-mia and Anatolia, in currentTurkey.

This kind of commercewas not uncommon, butwhats special is that we havea large collection of items inthe same place, and mostprobably they were conduct-ing these exchanges throughterrestrial means, Milevskysaid. We think that theyhad barter deals, becausethey didn't have money, andsometimes this exchangewas coming from farawaysites since we also founditems made from Obsidiancoming from Anatolia andother parts of Turkey, as well

as other items from Syria andnorthern Levant region, theresearcher stressed.

Archaeologists believethat the luxury items discov-ered in Ein Tzipori were forthe upper classs consump-

tion and that the site was nota religious or afuent com-mercial settlement.

Among the artifacts arebowls containing hundredsof colored int beads, en-graved earthenware and pal-ettes decorated with ostrich-es, showing inuence from

Mesopotamia and Syria. We know that there are fewcases in the southern Levantwith such patterns on palettesor other artifacts, even in theNear East. We believe therewas a common backgroundof ideas or beliefs that re-ects continuous commer-cial activity, Milevsky said.

However, this part ofthe Ein Tzipor site that spans200 square meters will becovered by a road in less than

a year. Thats why we callit a salvage excavation, be-cause we dug to nd whatwe could before its coveredby road 79, which leads toNazareth, Milevsky said.

    Thursday, 13 December, 2012

    Stand up for our beloved

farmersMost Myanmar people used to idolize

far mer s as great contr ibutor s to the society and

the nations breadwinner s. Many often addr essfarmers as Uncle Peasant. But it is a pity that

the farmers of our country enjoy only meagre

living standar ds. The har dworking farmer s lived

in ru r al ar eas where utility services simply mean

just their ch ores. Fr om dawn to dusk , their faces

are always wet with elbow grease. But many

of them never gure out how much their hard

work is worth and complaint against their less

    protable business.

Ofcial gures of the Ministry of Agriculture

and Irrigation for more than a decade show

    constant increases in agricultural production

of the country for all kinds of crops. Not even

a slight decline. It means the agro-industry

is thriving and the peasants are committedthemselves to working har der and ha rd er. There

should be an an swer to the question why they do

ear n less if they continue to invest more efforts

in farming. Farmers who do not have access

to the market directly have depended largely

on brokerages. Most of the prots of farming

went into broker ages as there was no regulation

nor mechanism to stand up for farmers. The

rich got richer and the poor got poorer. The

government which is committed to bringing

about development of rural areas to root out

the poverty needs to add ress the issue urgently.

After years of deprivation, farmers now

become far m worker s, losing their far ms out to

companies and bu sinessmen who have substantialresources, according to a survey. Some of the

farmers abandoned their farms for well-paid

overseas jobs. The ofcial gures indicate that

    national entrepreneurs are granted more

than 1.3 million hectres to run large-scale

commercial farming while only 0.01 percent

ar e reclaimed for terr ace farming. Due to the

natu r e of business, the bigger companies often

    swallow the smaller ones.

    The agro-industry needs nancial, technical

and other resources what the companies

can offer. But, it would bear more adverse

consequences than fr uitful outcomes if regulators

fail to protect the rights and a ddr ess the concern s

    of the farmers.

    All the Buddhist

    people throughout the

    Republic of the Union of

    Myanmar know that the

    First concrete unity of the

    Sangha of All Orders in

    the Republic of the Union

    of Myanmar could be

    established within one-

    hundred year after the

    First Congregation of the

    Sangha of All Order had

    been successfully held

    in 1980. It was clearly

    found in the history of

    Buddhism that it was

    impossible to carry out the

    purication, perpetuation

    and propagation of the

    Buddha Sasana without the

unity of the Sangha. It was found that

    multifarious sects and

    ganas of the Sangha

    appeared and separately

    existed in the Republic

    of the Union of Myanmar

    before the First Con-

    gregation of the Sangha of

    All Orders. According to

    the confuse and contended

    situation of different sects

and ganas of the Sangha of

    All Orders, many unlawful

    views (Adhammavadas)

    which lead to endangers

    and destroy the true

    teachings of the Buddha

    appeared in the Union of

    Myanmar in those days.

A need was felt that the

    Buddhist people through-

    out the country worries

    about this situation. Some

    farsighted learned monks

    and devotees of those

    days tried to establish the

    unity of different sects

    and ganas of the Sangha

    Orders, and but they were

    not successful because of

    being not encouraged and

    supported by the British

    Colonial Government atthat time.

    The farsighted learned

    monks and the authorities

    concerned tried to hold the

    very First Congregation of

the Sangha of All Orders in

    order to establish the unity

    of the Sangha which ever

    leads to the purication,

    The State Sanghamahanayaka Committee of

the Republic of the Union of MyanmarBa Sein (Religious Af fairs)

    perpetuation and propaga-

    tion of the Buddha Sasana

    in 1965. However, it was

    not successful because of

    unstable political and social

    situation at that time.

    According to the strong

wishes of the most of the

    members of the Sangha,

    the Buddhist people and the

    Government of the Republic

    of the Union of Myanmar

to establish the unity of the

    Sangha of All Orders for

    unanimously carrying out

    the purication, perpetua-

    tion and propagation of the

    Buddha Sasana (The true

    teachings of the Buddha),

    the thorough and systematic

necessary arrangements tohold the First Congregation

of the Sangha of All orders

    for the purication, per-

    petuation and propagation

    of the Buddha Sasana were

    made in advance by the

    farsighted and learned chief

    monks and the Government

    of the Union of Myanmar

of that time. And so, the

    First Congregation of the

Sangha of All Orders for the

    purication, perpetuation

    and propagation of the

    B u d d h a S a s a n a w a s

    successfully held in 1980.

    The congregation was

    attended by the Sangha.

    Samuti representatives

    who represented the whole

    members of the Sangha of

    All Orders throughout the

    country. According to the

    resolutions of the Successful

    First Congregation of

    the Sangha of All orders,

the very rst unity of the

Sangha of All Orders of the

    Republic of the Union of

    Myanmar could be formed

    and established within one-

    hundred year in the history

of Buddhism of the Republicof the Union of Myanmar.

    In accordance with

    the resolutions of the
