On a nationwide basis, the NLDwon 887 seats, or 77.1pc, ofall the 1150 seats contested onNovember 8. The ruling UnionSolidarity and DevelopmentParty came a distant second with117 seats, or 10.2pc, of the total.

In the lower house, Pyithuhluttaw, the NLD took 255, or77.9pc, of the 327 elected seats.

And in the upper house, Amyothahluttaw, the NLD won 135 seats,or 80.3 pc, of the 168 electedseats.

Taking into account the 25pc ofseats allocated to the military,plus seven vacant seats in thelower house, the NLD will hold390 seats, or 58.7pc, of all seatsin the combined houses of thePyidaungsu hluttaw.

The contests for control of theseven regional and seven state as-semblies also refected the NLD

landslide.

The party of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi will hold an absolutemajority in all seven regionalparliaments, and in three stateparliaments Kayah, Kayin andMon (graphic: state/region hlut-taw results). The USDP-militarystranglehold is reduced to justone state where their alliance should it hold will have anabsolute majority in Shan State.

As well as in Kachin State, theNLD would also have a majorityin Chin State if it were not for theunelected military bloc. It willnow hold exactly half of all seatsin Chin.
