INTRODUCTION

New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Columbus is a franchise of New Horizons Worldwide (NASDAQ: NEDH). New Horizons is the world’s largest independent Information Technology (IT) training company and trains over 2.4 million students each year. Our system of centers consists of over 300 training facilities in 70 countries

New Horizons of Columbus commenced operations in September of 1997. We offer top-quality, customer focused computer training choices that include traditional instructor led delivery, online anytime training, and online live training. New Horizons also offers clients a student lab that enables them to review materials, prepare for exams, and evaluate new products. New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Columbus is a Pearson VUE Authorized Testing Center.

INSTITUTIONAL PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers provide customer-focused computer training choices in multiple formats and delivery methods. Businesses and individuals receive top-quality computer training tailored to meet their specific needs – when and how they want to learn. As a result, customers have the freedom to personalize training programs to best suit individual learning styles and needs with a variety of training products and services.

Customer Commitment

New Horizons is in the business of helping people attain knowledge in the form of personal computer training. By providing the technical and application training that develops a more skilled and productive workforce, New Horizons is helping businesses and individuals keep pace with the rapid and complex technological changes taking place in operating systems and software development.

Flexible schedules for open enrollment, on-site training, and private classes give customers more options to tailor their training needs. Students may retake classes on a space-available basis within six months of the original class date. Limit one retake per class. Students requesting class retakes requiring external lab sources, including but not limited to Cisco classes, will be charged the cost of the lab services. Students are responsible for the courseware needed for any class retakes. Pre- and post-assessment testing can determine the skill set of the student and the level of qualification – beginner, intermediate or advanced – to ensure that each student begins at the right level andlearns the content of the course.

CENTER OPERATIONS

Scheduled Operations

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers offer day, weekend and evening classroom training. Weekday classes begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 5:00 p.m. Evening and Saturday classes are scheduled according to customer demand. Pearson Vue Testing Facilities are available during scheduled operations.

New Horizons facilities are closed each year in observance of the following national holidays:

Facilities & Equipment

New Horizons of Columbus is approximately 15,000 square feet with 5 classrooms available. Each classroom is approximately 600 square feet, and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, high-speed internet access and digital projectors. Our facility has technical staff onsite to support students along with Administrative staff.

Restrooms are ADA compliant as are all aspects of our facility. We are equipped with a break room offering complimentary refreshments to our students.

As the world leader of IT Training, New Horizons continuously upgrades equipment and software systems to ensure students are introduced to the latest technology. In the classroom, students are situated at independent and networked workstations and led by a qualified instructor. Our classrooms are equipped with group viewing apparatus such as whiteboards, overhead projectors and video accessories.

Class Registration

Registration for the Career Education Programs can be conducted in person, online or by telephone. Upon contacting the Center, students will be directed to the Education Consultant assigned to Career Education Programs. It is the primary function of the Education Consultant to assist students with program purchases and the scheduling of eligible courses. The price of each Career Education Program offered at New Horizons is published in the current course schedule. Prices are adjusted periodically to reflect cost fluctuations and combination of products offered.

To register for any of the core or elective classes available in their programs, students must first refer to the current course schedule for the New Horizons Center. New Horizons Career Education Programs are conducted on an Open Enrollment basis. Once a class is selected, students contact the Education Consultant and provide their name, the name of the course and the preferred date of the class. The student must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have the physical capability to begin the program. Other prerequisites for courses are the responsibility of each student. Should students be uncertain about prerequisites, they may contact the Education Consultant for assistance.

Rescheduling

New Horizons reserves the right to withdraw a class from the schedule because of insufficient enrollment. Should a class be withdrawn, any enrolled students may select another class from the schedule without penalty. New Horizons offers a variety of classes within each certification program, so the student will not have any problem in completing their program with an alternative class.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE, CONDUCT AND PROGRESS

Admission Requirements

While the admissions process is designed to be very selective, New Horizons does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, ethnic origin or religion.

All students must have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age. All potential students must have a face-to-face interview with an Education Consultant of the school, and be recommended for enrollment into a program. That recommendation will be forwarded to the School Director. Pre-requisite courses may be required, dependent on student’s previous training and background. Students are also required to take a technology aptitude test and score a minimum of 75%.

Students with special needs will be accommodated to the best of our ability. Our facility is wheel chair accessible including hallways, bathrooms and classrooms. Students visually impaired (not blind) can be accommodated in the classroom by enlarging the screen (text and pictures) via Microsoft Windows software. We have no accommodations for the hearing impaired with the exception of reserving a seat in the front of the class.

Credit For Previous Training

New Horizons does not accept transfer credits, but may recognize the student’s prior experience and/or certifications earned against the courses required for program completion. Upon enrollment, if the student requests a prior learning/experience assessment, the New Horizons Educational Consultant will request verification of the certifications achieved and/or provide the student with a skills-based assessment. Upon review of the certification documentation and/or skills assessment, the student will be eligible to receive a credit for one or more of the courses needed for program completion. At such time, the student may elect to either substitute eligible courses for the program with no change to the program tuition, or the student will receive a discount against the tuition for the program on a pro rata amount based on the total course hours credited versus the total course hours of the program.

Please note, for students using Veterans Administration funding, the VA will not pay for students to repeat training previously successfully completed. If VA students are required to repeat a course that has been successfully completed and paid for by the VA, they will have to repeat the course or courses at their own expense.

Enrollment Dates, Attendance and Course Completion

Prior to the class; each student will consult with school personnel to arrange a training schedule. The student will be enrolled into each course within our online portal. Our online portal automatically emails the student a confirmation of enrollment, their class date and class date.

Our classes are concise and informative. Applications courses typically last from 1 to 2 days. Technical courses usually range from 3-11 days. Classes are scheduled frequently for day and evening, on an open enrollment basis – not in semesters or blocks. Thus, there is no restrictive enrollment period and new enrollments are accepted on a weekly basis.

On class day, students should check in at the reception desk 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start of class. Students are expected to be on time and attend all scheduled classes. Should a student arrive more than 15 minutes late, their seat may be given to another student. Arrival more than 30 minutes late will disallow admission to the class. Any student that is tardy for class and has to relinquish their seat to another student will be rescheduled into the next available class date.

To receive course completion certificates, students are expected to attend 80 percent of class and complete required coursework with a grade of seventy percent (70%) or higher. Instructors monitor classroom attendance to ensure all training is delivered to each student. Attendance of completed class and completed coursework results in a passing grade. There is no probation policy. Should more help or a class retake be needed, all students have six months to repeat a class (one time) at no charge. This applies for unsatisfactory performance as well. Any student who has dropped out of the program may be readmitted by completing a personal interview with the school director and paying all fees due at the time of readmission.

Student Conduct

While New Horizons is fully committed to preparing students for new careers, it cannot succeed without participation and commitment. The attitudes and behaviors exhibited during training and after beginning work are essential elements of program success.

All students are required to consider the following:

Students are expected to use New Horizons’ property for its intended purpose only. In the classroom, students should exercise care in using the equipment and materials and refrain from entering with food items. As a courtesy to others, they should assist in maintaining the break-room by cleaning up after themselves. New Horizons encourages students to abide by posted facility rules such as smoking only in designated areas.

New Horizons maintains a facility that is free of drugs and alcohol. This is essential to maintaining a safe and efficient learning and work environment. Substance abuse is incompatible with health, safety, efficiency and success at New Horizons. Violation of this policy by trainees or employees will result in their removal from the facility.

New Horizons is committed to providing a safe and healthy training and work environment by complying with relevant federal and state occupational health and safety laws. New Horizons uses the operations, procedures, technologies and programs necessary to maintain such an environment. However, accident prevention is everyone’s responsibility and can be aided by following these rules:

Exercise care and good judgment in using facility equipment. Adhere to all posted signs or warnings. Immediately report any unsafe conditions, equipment or practices to New Horizons staff.

STUDENT PROGRESS AND PROGRAM COMPLETION

Standards of Progress

Students are required to complete all defined program courses with a cumulative grade of seventy percent (70%) or higher and program hours. In the event that a student misses any portion of a course, the student is responsible to make up these hours within 30 calendar days.

Progress Reports

New Horizons will make Progress Reports available to students and/or their funding sponsors upon request.

Grading System

Grades will be assigned at the end of each course/module (“grading period”) based on the criteria outlined by the course instructor at the beginning of the grading period or as outlined in the course syllabus.

Grade Scale

Final grades will be reported to student services after completion of the course. Satisfactory progress is maintaining a minimum grade of seventy percent (70%) or higher during each course. These grades will be stored with the students file and presented to the student within 30 days of completion of the program. This will allow students ample time to make up any course work or class time that has been missed. If minimum course work or required class time has not been met by the course end date, the grade may revert to an Incomplete “I”. If the course work or required class time is not made up within 30 days of the course end date, the resulting grade will be an F. Students will have one opportunity to repeat and complete the course after receiving a F. Students failing to successfully complete the course a second time will have their Career Education Program terminated if the course represents 33% or more of the entire number of hours required for the program. At such time, the student will be eligible for a refund up either 50% of their program tuition or the students’ program tuition less the retail cost of the courses and exams taken with New Horizons, whichever is less. If the course represents less than 20% of the student’s overall program hours, then the student will be placed on Temporary Leave further review with the student and Student Services.

Class Participation/Attendance Policy

Regular participation is necessary to ensure continuity of the educational process. Regular participation is desirable in developing proper work habits, the feeling of mastery through success, interest in school and a sense of responsibility.

Our policy puts the responsibility first upon the student and secondly upon the instructor. The students should look at class participation in the same light as they view the need to attend work. If an employee doesn’t go to work regularly and on time, termination can be expected. Therefore, the student who doesn’t attend classes regularly and on time without making up the missed class time can expect failure and/or dismissal.

Excessive Absence

Grounds for dismissal are any student who has missed more than 20% of any individual course and has not made up the missed coursework within the required 30 calendar days. The decision to dismiss a student based on attendance is done via an academic review board. It is important that the student attend school on a regular basis. Participation should help the student develop proper work habits.

A student missing more than 5 consecutive days of classes for which they have been scheduled with no notice to the school may be automatically withdrawn. For re-admission see the “Re-Admission Policy”.

Veterans Attendance

For students receiving education benefits through the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), New Horizons is required to notify the VA about changes affecting the student’s training schedule, including regular attendance. In order to maintain full-time active status, the VA requires a student to maintain a minimum of 18 clock hours of physical attendance in classes at our facility per week. Any reductions in attendance may result in a lowered Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or termination from the program.

Tardiness

The School understands that students will be late from time to time due to circumstances beyond their control. However, when tardiness becomes a habit it should be understood that the School will have to take action.

A student exceeding this total allotted missed time in a given week, (regardless if the time has been made up) will be required to attend a “Counseling Session” with the Educational Consultant and/or School Director and documentation will be placed in the student’s official record. A student that has attended two counseling sessions for tardiness will be required to attend an academic review board for a third offence and may be dismissed.

Additionally, the instructor may request a counseling session for a student regardless of the time missed, if he/she feels the student has missed information critical to successfully passing the class, or the tardiness has become a habit based on the Instructors discretion.

Leave Of Absence

A student faced with severe illness, personal or financial hardships which require their absence from New Horizons for five or more consecutive days of instruction is required to contact the School Director. A leave of absence period may not exceed 180 days within any 12-month period.

A student may be granted more than one leave of absence due to circumstances covered under the Family & Medical Leave Act of 1993, military service requirement or jury duty, provided that the combined leaves of absence do not exceed 180 days within the 12-month period. The student must put the request in writing so that it can become part of the permanent record. Students returning to school from a leave of absence should meet with the School Director to determine when to re-enter classes.

Make-Up Work

An incomplete grade may be given to a student who cannot finish any part of or meet the requirements of the course due to extended absence. Incomplete grades will revert to failure within 30 days of a class end unless arrangements are made to attend a make-up session of the course as described in the previous paragraph, and provided such arrangements are approved by the Director. At the discretion of the Director, a student will be required to repeat an in-complete or failed course with no additional tuition. The incomplete or failed grade should be made up before a Diploma may be issued. The student must bring his/her copy of the course book(s) to the make-up session of the class.

Academic Probation

Every effort will be made by the instructional staff to help students in any area where assistance is necessary, and arrangements for tutoring and review may be made through the Director and/or instructor. If a student fails two consecutive courses they will be placed on academic probation. The student must then pass their next class or face possible dismissal. To officially be placed on academic probation, the student will be required to attend an academic review board. This board will consist of no less than three school officials including the School Director. This academic review is established to allow the student to answer and address any concerns the board may have in relation to the student’s performance.

Suspension

A student may be suspended from New Horizons by virtue of misconduct. A student may be considered for re-entry to the school if they can demonstrate a change in attitude or circumstance that may have caused their suspension. The decision of the Director is final. Reports are maintained and will be available to the student.

Re-Admittance Into A Program

If a student is dismissed from a program for any reason, the following procedure should be followed in order to re-enter the program:

1. The student submits a letter to his/her Education Consultant requesting re-admittance to the program.

2. After reviewing the letter, the Education Consultant meets with the student to discuss thereason(s) he/she was removed from or stopped attending the program and how similar

issues can be prevented should re-admission be granted. 3. The Education Consultant will discuss the student’s request with the General

Manager or Director of Admissions for a final decision to be made. Appeal

A student may appeal the decision of the Academic Review Board based upon extenuating circumstances by writing to the Director using New Horizons grievance procedure, which may be found in this Student Catalog. The student may review his/her record by making a written request to the Director.

Requirements For Graduation (Successful Completion)

Students will be considered graduated and completed with their Career Education Program following the completion of all courses outlined in their program enrollment agreement. New Horizons requires a student to complete all required coursework with a cumulative grade of seventy percent (70%) or higher and have a minimum program attendance rate of 80 percent, in order to graduate from a program. Certification Exams Prior to sitting for an exam, students should utilize all re-sources made available throughout the program such as courseware, online learning, exam preparation tools, and self-paced labs. Whether used independently by the student or during class, practice exams DO NOT guarantee a passing score for any exams. Classes include a free exam voucher if the student successfully scores a 95% or better on at least three practice tests. Verification by Student Services is required. Examinations are produced and administered by a third party. New Horizons has no control over choice of material or alterations of material for examination. STATISTICS AND PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE

The State of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools requires that students be provided with program completion and placement statistics from the last three years. Data has just begun to be collected by New Horizons and will be published in succeeding volumes of this document.

Placement

New Horizons cannot and does not guarantee career placement upon graduation. New Horizons will work with students to assist with career placement. It is our goal to have all of our students working in the field of study and preparation. For students who have completed their programs, New Horizons provides a list of referrals to local employment agencies for placement.

ICND 1: Students will learn how networks function and how to identify major components and functions of network

components. They will gain an understanding of issues related to increasing traffic on an Ethernet LAN and identifying switched LAN technology solutions to Ethernet networking issues. They Students will be taught how to extend the reach of a LAN and the methods that can be used with a focus on RF wireless access.

They will study functions of Wide Area Networks (WANs), the major devices of WANs, and configuring PPP encapsulation, static and dynamic routing, PAT and RIP routing. Students learn the use of the

command-line interface to discover neighbors on the network and how to manage the router’s startup and configuration. Technical Features of this course include the following: The Open System Interconnection

The nonrefundable registration fee for students is $100.00 per course and applies toward tuition. Course schedules including descriptions and pricing for classes and books are developed and published three times annually for each New Horizons Computer Learning Center. Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, Section 103: Delayed Disbursement by VA (Recipients of Chapter 31 and Chapter 33 of the GI Bill® only)

New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Columbus, OH will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 recipient borrow additional funds to cover the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of a payment by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Student Rescheduling Policy If it becomes necessary to reschedule, students must advance notice in writing to the Education Consultant ten business days prior to the start of the class. For rescheduling purposes, this action will allow the student to select an alternate class without penalty. Student Enrollment Cancellation An enrollment or registration contract signed by the student and/or a parent or guardian may be cancelled within five calendar days after the date of signing provided the school is notified of the cancellation in writing. The school shall promptly refund in full the registration or enrollment fee and any other charges paid plus any and all advanced tuition fees collected. Such refund shall be made no later than thirty days after cancellation. 3332-1-10(B)(2) Administrative Rules Refund Policy

(a) Generally, for programs operating on a clock hour basis, programs up to three hundred hours will be considered equivalent to a quarter. Programs of three hundred to six hundred hours will be considered equivalent to two quarters and, therefore, need to be divided by two. Programs of more than six hundred to nine hundred clock hours shall be considered to be equivalent to three quarters and need to be divided by three. Programs for more than nine hundred hours but less than one calendar year need to be divided by four. Programs of more than one year need to be considered the second year and any portion thereof in terms of the three hundred-hour increments detailed above.

(i) A student who starts class and withdraws before the academic term is fifteen per cent completed will be obligated for twenty-five per cent of the tuition and refundable fees for the current academic term plus the registration fee.

(ii) A student who starts class and withdraws after the academic term is fifteen per cent complete but before the academic term is twenty-five per cent completed will be obligated for fifty per cent of the tuition and refundable fees for the current academic term plus the registration fee.

(iii) A student who starts class and withdraws after the academic term is twenty-five per cent complete but before the academic term is forty per cent completed will be

obligated for seventy-five per cent of the tuition and refundable fees for the current academic term plus the registration fee.

(iv) A student who starts class and withdraws after the academic term is forty per cent completed will not be entitled to a refund of the tuition and fees for the current academic term.

Veterans Refund Policy

If you receive educational benefits through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and you wish to cancel your program, you must submit a written notice of cancellation to New Horizons. Upon receipt of written notice of cancellation, New Horizons will refund the amount of the unused portion of the Veteran’s tuition. Unused tuition will be calculated on a prorated basis by taking the total cost of the program paid by the veteran, less the price for any courses, books, materials, labs, and exams used by the student prior to the date of the cancellation notice. If there is a change in your enrollment status, please notify your Educational Consultant as well as the VA. Generally, the VA is not responsible for:

• Courses you do not attend • Courses from which you withdraw

The individual is responsible for any debt resulting from reductions or terminations of your enrollment even if the payment was submitted directly to the school on the student’s behalf. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days after they are verified.

In the event that veterans or their eligible persons sponsored as students under Chapters 30, 32, 35 of Title 38 and Chapter 1606 or Title 10 U.S. Code, fail to enter the Program or withdraw or are discontinued therefrom at any time prior to completion, the amount charged for tuition, fees and other charges shall not exceed the approximate pro rata portion of the total charges for tuition, fees and other charges that the length of the non-accredited program bears to its total length. A registration fee of $10 need not be refundable: any amount beyond that is subject to pro ration and refund [CFR 21.4254(c) (13)]. The pro rata portion may not vary more than 10 percent of the total costs for tuition, fees, and other charges.

Education Credit and Student Aid Policy New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Columbus is a special purpose institution. That purpose is to provide personal computer and technical training leading to professional skills development. This purpose does not include preparing students for further college study. Students should be aware that transfer of credit is always the responsibility of the receiving institution. Whether or not credits transfer is solely up to the receiving institution. Any student interested in transferring credit hours should check with the receiving institution directly to determine to what extent, if any, credit hours can be transferred. New Horizons does not currently offer training that in it offers education credits and does not require such for entry into its programs. Arrangements can be suggested with local institutions that can award credits based on the passing of certification exams, or for continuing education credits. Again, New Horizons makes no claim as to the transferability of such credits. New Horizons does not provide scholarship or financial aid assistance to students. New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Columbus offers a referral to students who wish to explore financial assistance.
