Slovakia is a country that gained independence only in 1993. Until then, the Slovakia was a part of Czechoslovakia. Slovakia has since 1 May 2004 Member of the European Union. On 1 January 2009, Slovakia introduced the euro.

The middle of Slovakia is the Slovak Ore Mountains (Slovenské rudohorie, one to just under 1500 m).
