DAY 1: DEPART DARWIN

Guests are welcomed to board Coral Adventurer at 8:30am andwe will then depart Darwin at 10:00am. Get to know the shipand your fellow travellers as we sail across the Arafura Sea.

DAY 2: AT SEA

Our guest lecturers will hold several presentations today, on theitinerary, safety procedures and introduce you to Indonesianculture and protocols. This evening, mingle with the Captain,crew and fellow guests at the Captain’s Welcome Drinks.

DAY 3: BANDA ISLANDS

As Coral Adventurer arrives at the entrance (Zonegat channel) to Banda Neira, traditional long canoes known as Kora Kora emerge, rowed thunderously by men in traditional costume. These traditional war canoes provide an impressive escort into the caldera where you will enjoy the first look at Banda Neira. Our visit to the island includes Rumah Budaya, Old Dutch

Church Hatta House, Perigi Rante, a Nutmeg plantation and thehighlight visit of the beautiful Fort Belgica, where we watchtraditional dancing and sample local treats during sunset drinksat the fort.

DAY 4: BANDA ISLANDS

History has coined these islands as the fabled Spice Islandsand is not without sound reason. Today these islands may bealmost unheard of, but they’ve played an important role in theEuropean history from the 16th to the 18th centuries.Combining raw natural beauty, a warm local heart, and apalpable and fascinating history, this remote cluster of tenislands were home to some of the most prized and fought-overcommodities in the past – nutmeg, cloves, and mace.Underwater, impressive undersea drop-offs are vibrantlyplastered with multicoloured coral gardens. The central islands –Pulau Neira and Pulau Banda Besar – curl in picturesquecrescents around the pocket-sized volcano Gunung Api. Todaywe snorkel over the coral reef that has emerged on the lava flowfrom Gunung Api’s historic eruption. Others may go ashore inBanda for a ‘tea party’ in the charming local surrounds.

DAY 5: SEBAKOR BAY

Visit this remarkable scenic bay, where waterfalls tumbledirectly into the ocean. Here we enjoy water activities such assnorkelling, diving, and kayaking.

DAY 6: ARGUNI

Arguni is a small island off the west coast of West Papua province of Indonesia. The island covers less than 5 sq.km. The local language Arguni is spoken by about 150 people. On the south side of the island are pearl farm buoys and cages floating in the warm clear water. Mangrove swamps, many interesting

limestone islets and formations, Papuan rock art (notably handand foot stencils), burial caves, and villages (some on stilts)line the shore line. While Arguni is in the Fakfak Regency, it stillhas a traditional king (a functionless title), Raja HanafPauspaus of Arguni, one of many Kings of Indonesia. On ourarrival, we are greeted by villagers displaying many culturalattractions, including traditional dances, local music, andtraditional handcrafts. Enjoy fresh coconut and browse aroundthe village to observe daily life and interact with the localpeople. Following this, journey by zodiac to visit the famousancient blood paintings at Roefroefoea. The paintings featuremany hands of humans and also animal depictions, with thered colour of the paintings resembling the colour of blood.

DAY 7: MISOOL

At Misool you will explore “the stone gardens of Misool” with itsmisty beauty. As a hidden and deserted paradise, Misool isunspoiled with waters of aquamarine lined by towering karstcliffs of various shapes and forms. Misool waters haveapproximately 200 saltwater lagoons stretching like a greencarpet and bustling with unique and beautiful corals. Here, wewill swim, snorkel and explore around the islands by kayak.

DAY 8: KOFIAU

Kofiau Islands are covered by lush trees and wild plants, they offer a fantastic wealth of nature and beautiful scenery. The tropical rain forest is home to the endemic rare Kofiau Paradise Kingfisher, Kofiau Monarch and Kofiau Green-tree Python. Here, you will enjoy white and soft sandy beaches, and crystal clear water with stunning corals. We will enjoy a welcome to the local villages, where you can met the people in their daily lives. Witness traditional foods being prepared, and attend the celebration of Buka Sasi. In the afternoon, enjoy snorkelling,

diving, or birdwatching.

DAY 9: WAYAG ISLANDS

The jewel in the crown of Raja Ampat, picturesque gumdropkarsts are the backdrop for this paradise on earth. Here, theunderwater world is rightly famous – we spend time to discoverwith snorkelling, SCUBA diving, and kayaking opportunities. Forthe fit, a walk up to Mt Pindito is available. This steep up-hillwalk rewards with remarkable views over the islands.

DAY 10: AMSTERDAM ISLAND

Pulau Dua: Amsterdam and Middleburg Island are two islandslocated in the Tambrauw Regency, West Papua. Tambrauw is anexpanding new regency since 2009, and as a conservationregency, the local government of Tambrauw continues to seeksustainable management of natural resources that is beneficialto the welfare of the people. Natural resource management andphysical development of the area are conducted based on theprinciples of nature conservation, forest area conservation, localcommunity wisdom empowerment, and protection of customaryrights of the community. A lip shaped island, sloping whitebeaches with clear water give visibility right to the seabed; theimpressive underwater slope and cliff contours loom with theglorious wreck of ships drowned during WWII. This has createdcolorful coral gardens which offer a sensation for snorkelers anddivers. Amsterdam Island is also well-known as a place whereLeatherback turtles return to lay eggs.

DAY 11: ROON ISLAND

Just below the surface resides a Japanese plane wreck with big black corals, gorgonians, big lionfish, glassfish, shrimps and many more. Snorkellers on the surface can still clearly see the wreck when the weather cooperates and the water is still, or

they may dive down for a closer look. Afterwards, we hope toexplore a nearby village to meet the locals.

DAY 12: KWATISORE

Today, experience one of the highlights of this cruise –swimming with the whale sharks. The gentle giants will beswimming around the fishing bagans and guests may enter thewater in small groups for a chance to swim with these amazinganimals. This afternoon we visit the Papuan village of Kwatisore,where the locals will perform a ‘bird of paradise’ dance andother traditional performances. You may also participate anddance with the local people. Market stalls will be set up withinteresting items to purchase, such as carved paddles. They areskilled musicians here and will entertain us with their stringband.

DAY 13: KWATISORE

Today, we have another opportunity to spot Birds of Paradise inour early morning outing. As we make our way to MamberamoRiver our guest lecturers will hold insightful presentations.

DAY 14: MAMBERAMO RIVER

The Mamberamo River is the largest river in Papua and isregarded as the Amazon of the East. It is considered as thelargest rivers in Indonesia by volume. Along the huge river valleylive many tribes who have little connection to the outside world.There is a an amazing bio diversity here in flora and fauna. Thisis a Expedition destination.

DAY 15: JAYAPURA

At tropical Jayapura city, nestled between beautiful steep forested mountains, you will have the opportunity to visit the bustling markets and exchange smiles with the locals. This is

our clearance stop as we leave Indonesia and depart for PapuaNew Guinea.

DAY 16: WEWAK

Early this morning we arrive into the port town of Wewak. Thereis much WWII history here, and we will go on a tour with localguides including Wewak Hill Lookout, ANZAC Memorial, MissionHill, and also see the local craft markets.

DAY 17: SEPIK RIVER

At first light the Coral Adventurer enters the mighty Sepik River.Our destination is the remote village of Bien or Kopar, where thelocals are known for their arts and crafts. A true Sepik welcomeawaits us as we step ashore! Take the opportunity to purchasethe unique hand carvings of this region. As we depart from theSepik River, we will sail past the active volcano at ManamIsland as we enjoy sunset drinks.

DAY 18: MADANG

Explore Madang and its surrounds, which sits on a peninsulasurrounded by a number of picturesque islands and is famedfor its waterfront setting and colonial history. Discover thesurrounding area on our Madang tour – which includes a visit tothe Madang Haus Museum, the Coastwatchers Lighthouse, andBil Bil Village where pottery is made. Certified divers have theopportunity to check out some great dive sites in the area withexperienced local operators. Madang is the disembarking pointfor guests travelling on the first half of this voyage from Darwinto Madang, and the embarking point for guests travelling on thesecond half of this voyage from Madang to Darwin.

DAY 19: DREGERHAFEN

Today we visit Dregerhafen in the Finschhafen district ofMorobe, famous for Tami bowls and timber paddles. Visit thevillage of Gingala for a high spirited PNG welcome. The marketswill be open and there will be a chance to walk through thevillage with the locals. After lunch enjoy snorkelling, diving, andkayaking in the waters of the lagoon. Finish the day with drinkson the sundeck and our famous BBQ.

DAY 20: FLY ISLANDS & MOROBE

Awaken early and travel ashore for a morning of water activitiesat Fly Island. Biangatu Reef is teeming with fish life andcolourful coral. Enjoy snorkelling, diving or kayaking. EnterMorobe Harbour and cruise in the Xplorer to view the stunningforest from the Mou River. Receive an Oro Province welcomeand enjoy exploring the village with local guides. At high tideyou may be able to travel into a stunning hidden bay to anothervillage.

DAY 21: BUNA

The Battle of Buna saw some of the fiercest fighting betweenAmerican, Australian and Japanese forces during the finalstages of WW2. We walk through the jungle with the localvillagers and discover the fascinating history. After lunch we visitbeautiful Sanananda to visit the War Museum, which the villagehas built to honour both sides. You have the opportunity tomeet the local village people and enjoy their lovely gardens.

DAY 22: TUFI FJORD

Soak up spectacular views as we cruise close to the toweringcliffs before entering Tufi Fjord. Enjoy a leisurely swim andsnorkel over colourful fringing reefs or visit the nearby resort forsome relaxation.

DAY 23: DOBU AND FERGUSSON ISLANDS

Join our Expedition Staff on a walk to Dei Dei Hot Springs,where the people share their mythical and spiritual tales ofthese hot water and mud springs. Learn of the history of theKula Ring at Dobu Island and meet the local primary schoolchildren, who will welcome us with a traditional danceperformance. There will also be an opportunity to snorkel theincredible Bubbling Springs Reef.

DAY 24: SEWA BAY

Cruise into beautiful Sewa Bay and be welcomed ashore to thelocal Pwanapwana Primary school. The locals will show us theirtraditional war dances and share a morning tea of pineapple,coconut milk, and sugar bananas.

DAY 25: BONA BONA ISLAND

At these small islands, have the opportunity to relax and take inyour surroundings. Delami Island is home to a wonderful reef &beach where we may enjoy diving, snorkelling, swimming, andbirdwatching. Bona Bona Island, with vibrant marine life, alsooffers a chance to explore with an Xplorer cruise around thecoast as well as diving and snorkelling. We may visit the smallvillage here, and spot some of the abundant bird life – crestedterm, eclectus parrot, or the pied imperial pigeon. The villagegardens are lovely – the locals will explain the plants to you.

DAY 26: HALL SOUND

Many rivers run from the mountains into Hall Sound, withhistoric Yule Island providing shelter from the Coral Sea. Here,explore the sound and enjoy an enthusiastic Central Provincewelcome.

DAY 27: KEREMA

Explore the Gulf Province capital, and enjoy culturalexperiences.

DAY 28: TORRES STRAIT

Enjoy a relaxing day at sea as we cruise through the TorresStrait and make our entry into Indonesia.

DAY 29: MERAUKE

Founded by the Maro River, this is the Easternmost city ofIndonesia. Merauke is the border area between West Papua andPapua New Guinea on the south coast of the island. About 75percent of the area is still shrouded in dense forest. Merauke isknown for a number of natural attractions including thebeaches, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, nature reservesand a captive crocodile. Guest will be welcomed with traditionaldance before going to the Wasur National Park which isregarded as the “Serengeti of Papua”. The savanna landscapeis surrounded by forest and bamboo, with grasslands andswamps. Many migratory birds, wallabies, and casssowariescome and inhabit the Blue Marsh Lake. Also known for giant antnests, we will continue and see these enormous formations,locally known as Musamus.

DAY 30: AT SEA

Enjoy a day at sea to relax as we prepare to encounter theAgats warriors.

DAY 31: AGATS

Experience a memorable welcome by an armada of about 40 or more war-canoes, rowed powerfully towards the ship by the Asmat warriors in traditional costume. Disembarking by Xplorer we are accompanied by the Asmat tribe’s warrior war-canoes to Syuru village where we are greeted by a welcome dance set and

performance by the Asmat women. After the ceremony we areinvited deep into the “Men’s House” to experience wonderfulitems of traditional wooden arts and sculpture, which areoffered for sale. This afternoon, we will visit Agats Township andthe Museums there, with time for guests to purchase artifactsand souvenirs.

DAY 32: AT SEA

Enjoy a day at sea, relax and enjoy lectures on the natural andmarine wonders of West Papua while we steam towards TritonBay.

DAY 33: TRITON BAY

Triton Bay lies on the south coast of the West Papua province ofIndonesia, surrounded by tropical rain forests and rising on oneside to a 1060m peak. The waters of the bay nurture abundantmarine life – 471 types of coral and 959 types of coral fish. Inthese waters, Bryde’s whales and whale sharks also find theirhome. Nearby this region is where Alfred Russel Wallace,contemporary and equal of Charles Darwin, wrote of hisexplorations in The Malay Archipelago around 1858. Withvisitors rare to this region, it is indescribably special. Triton Bayis known for displaying a similarly impressive level of soft coralcoverage as places like Misool Island. Epaulette sharks can beseen walking over the reefs as giant groupers lurk in shelteredspots, while schools of jacks and fusiliers dart en masse.Squadrons of bump head parrotfish charge around chompingthe coral into fine sand, watched by ever-present turtles. TritonBay’s black coral forests are awesome in scale and never fail toimpress. In one area the high limestone cliffs display extensivepre-historic drawings and carvings, coloured orange, white andblack, which are truly breath-taking. Take a Zodiac ride up-riverto visit the villages.

DAY 34: KEI ISLANDS

Kei Island is located on the edge of the ‘Coral Triangle’, whichoutlines the world’s richest waters. Not only does this overallregion have the highest diversity in terms of fish but alsoinvertebrates, mollusks and corals. Fringing and barrier reefsshelter a huge variety of very colourful reef fishes. Big fish cruiseby: Spanish mackerels, dog tooth tuna, eagle or manta rays arecommon encounters. Kei Islands are rapidly gaining areputation as the place to go for perfect, unspoilt beaches,fringed with coconut groves. Ngurbloat beach is one of these.Five kilometres of soft white sand (rumoured to be as soft asflour), thousands of coconut trees, crystal clear blue sea andcalm waves. Here we relax and reflect on our incredible journeyof discovery.

DAY 35: AT SEA

Today, share memories of your adventures with photo sharingand final lectures by our Expedition Team. In the evening,attend the Captain’s Farewell Dinner.

DAY 36: ARRIVE DARWIN

Coral Adventurer will arrive into Darwin at 10:30 am to clearcustoms and disembark at 12:00pm.
