PROJECT EVALUATION

Completion of the project, on Hykeham Road, Lincoln is currently on track for 24th September this year, providing pupils and residents in the area with a valuable and much needed education resource.

KEY STATISTICS

• Rainwater harvesting

• Energy efficient heating system

• Green roof construction

• High level of insulation

• Energy efficient glazing

• Naturally ventilated where possible

PROJECT SOLUTION

The building has been sympathetically designed with sustainability and local vernacular in mind, as a stand alone single story structure built independently to the existing school and featuring a low pitch green roof, air tight energy efficient walls and high performance glazing.

The need for a fabric first approach and our geographic proximity to the site made K-Panels the ideal choice for this project, and as such we were requested to meet with the architects and planners to discuss the project at the grass roots design stage.

David Grieves of Mouchel was keen to utilise innovative building techniques with proven environmental benefits from the outset, and needed minimal support in producing the type of energy efficient building envelope required to achieve the BREEAM “Very Good” or “Excellent” rating in accordance with Lincolnshire County Councils BREEAM and Sustainability policies.

Our early involvement enabled us to fully understand the design and project aims, meaning that once on site the project was installed with the minimum disruption to the existing school with works being completed on the project in little over 3 weeks.

Working alongside the principal contractor RG Carters of Lincoln K-Panels team undertook the installation of the Structural Insulated Panel, or ”SIP’s” wall system, internal timber walls, Truss roof arrangement and Glulam Timber canopy area, all installed with deliveries carefully timed around the existing school’s access requirements.
