Echoes

Our lives are only a series of memories which flash back to us, and the

purpose of a yearbook is to perpetuate some of these. Lincoln College is

not celebrating its centennial but, as the first college to bear Lincoln's

name, it is such an integral part of the only town named for Lincoln

before he became famous that it seems appropriate for us to join in

celebrating this hundredth anniversary. This is Lincoln Country, rich in

folklore and tradition. Legend has it that Abraham Lincoln christened

the town with a watermelon which he swung against a spring board,

saying, "Nothing with the name of Lincoln ever amounted to much."

covered bridge over Salt Creek. The bridge has been

replaced, but the location might prove good for

parties.

The Social Committee is charged with

the responsibility for social events, par-

ticularly the year's big formals. The Sadie

Hawkins Dance and the Golddiggers

Fling are both traditions, and the gals dothe asking. The 1952 Christmas Formal

was a delightfully intimate affair held

in the Dining Hall, where candle-lighted

tables were placed along the wall.

The Spring Formal, "My Blue Heaven,"

was also held in the Dining Hall, andfeatured the annual coronation of a queensecretly chosen by the men. Her Royal

Highness was Miss Carolyn Witham, a

freshman from Lincoln.

Homecoming

Honnecoming display.

Upon a suggestion from Miss Willard the Stu-

dent Council this year organized a three-day

Homecoming weekend. Festivities commencedFriday night, February 20, with the annual Gold-

diggers Fling. The theme was "A Little Bit of

Heaven," and the highlight was the crowning of

the King and Queen, selected by popular choice.

Saturday afternoon alums, faculty, and the Lynx

second squad played basketball. Saturday eve-

ning, after a pep rally, the Lynx went down to

the Concordia Preachers from Springfield, fol-

lowed by a lounge party. The men threw opentheir living quarters Sunday afternoon, after

which the traditional Open House reception at

Harts Hall was held. Rooms were judged at both

these events.

Campus organizations erected displays which

were judged by a faculty committee. First prize

went to the International Club for their water-

color depicting two basketballers reaching for the

world globe^

Eikosi Korai, honorary service society, contributes to campus life in many ways. Serving dinners is the club's

specialty, although the annual fall cake walk, the children's Easter Egg Hunt, two Sunday night suppers, andthe second semester issues of Campus News were added attractions this year. Two formal initiations at HartsHall were held, one in the winter and one in the spring. Results of the latter were not captured by our camera.
