Isodraft bolt length calculations are dependant on the components Connection Compatibility Codes (COCOs). Connections starting with, F, L, G or W.

There are currently two methods for calculating bolts in AVEVA Plant PDMS.Old BoltingNew Bolting

This presentation will review the New Bolting method.Copyright 2011 AVEVA Solutions Limited. All rights reserved.228-Feb-12Copyright 2011 AVEVA Solutions Limited. It owns Bolt Points (BLTP) elements. BOLT SETS are not required for the OLD Bolting method.

BLTP The Bolt Points store the bolting information for each bolt hole on the flange and has the following attributes.

All rights reserved.Bolt Sets and Points (contd)Each SCOM has an attribute called Bolt Reference attribute (BLRF) that points to a Bolt Set (BTSE)A BTSE represents the bolt set that is necessary for that particular kind of flanged connection Each BTSE contains a list of Bolt Points (BLTP) holding information for each single bolt

BLTP 1BLTP 8BLTP 7BLTP 6BLTP 5BLTP 3BLTP 4BLTP 2Copyright 2011 AVEVA Solutions Limited. All rights reserved.Bolt Sets and Points (cont'd) Each Flanged and Wafer component along with Flanged Nozzles will reference a Bolt Set (BTSE) through their BLRF attribute.

The BTHK (bolt length) for the first component will be matched with the BTHK from the BLTP of the component to which it is bolted in the design.

There must be a BLTP for each bolt hole within a component unless all bolts are identical.

When the bolt holes are identical, the attributes are set at the BTSE and BLTPs are not required.

Piping Components, SPCOMs, within a piping specification are no longer required to have their Bolt Reference (BLTREF) attribute set.

Bolting details are accessed via the BLRF attribute of the catalogue component which will point to a BTSE.

If the BTYP for one side of the joint is set to BOLT and the other side is set to anything other than BOLT, the type of bolt specified by that BTYP will be used.

As an example, a bolted through flange may have its BTYP set to BOLT, and the mating flange may require CAP screws and have is BTYP set to CAP. In this case, the CAP screw overrides the default type, and the selected BTYP will be CAP.

If both BTYPs are the same and are not set to BOLT, the bolt with that BTYP is selected.

If the BTYPs are not equal and are also not set to BOLT, the BTYP from the start of the bolt is selected.

All rights reserved.Additional Bolt Specification SelectorsIn addition to Bolt Specific Type and Diameter, a further degree of bolt selection is allowed via the BSELattribute of a branch member.

This attribute takes a value which can be used as the answer to a BSEL selector in the Bolt Specification.

e.g. If the Pipe Specification dictates that the same flange has black bolts indoors and galvanised bolts outdoors, then BSEL attribute could be set to either IN or OUT at the flange, with entries for both bolts in the Bolt Specification.

Standard Flange-Gasket-Flange

General Wafer Components

Components with Mixed Needs

Note:The Pcon for Flanges and Flange Fittings must start with an F or LThe Pcon for Gaskets must start with an GThe Pcon for Wafer fittings must start with a W

Obtain the BTSE from the BLRF of the second flange. Store this as BTSE2.Then for each bolt in the set Get the Bolt Points with the corresponding Number Check for the matching BDIA values Add the two values of the BTHK together Add the gasket thickness Select the bolt from the Bolt Specification and obtain its standard rounded up length.

All rights reserved.Wafer Component Calculations The calculation of bolts through wafer components is the same as the standard flange-gasket-flange calculation, with the following differences.

If within the joint, a components connection type starts with W (wafer), get its P1 to P2 distance, and go to the next component.

Copyright 2011 AVEVA Solutions Limited. All rights reserved.1628-Feb-12Copyright 2011 AVEVA Solutions Limited. All rights reserved.Components with Mixed Needs Calculations The calculation of bolts through components with mixed bolt needs is the same as the general wafer calculation, but allows for different bolts in the set to stop at different places within the joint. If the BTYP of the bolt is JACK, TAP, or CAP, this will complete that particular bolt calculation. A subsequent BTYP of JACK, TAP or CAP for the same bolt number further on in the joint triggers a new bolt.

The Bolt Reference SBOLT, has the attributes, BITM, BITL which stores the additional elements and their respective lengths or thicknesses. The attribute XTRA can store a value for extra thread lengths.

Components with Mixed Needs Calculations (cont'd) Machine bolt lengths are based on the combined thickness of the 2 flanges, 2 gaskets, and the valve itself. Cap screw lengths are based on the thickness of a single flange and gasket combined with the tapping depth in the valve body.

Wafer valve requiring 12 bolts.

4 machine bolts passing through the whole joint from one flange to the other (Bolts 2, 3, 6, 7)

4 cap screws on each side of the valve, which secure the valve to the flanges (Bolts 1, 4, 5, 8)
