New assistant director of education joins staff Helen Wells, RN, of Waltonville, 111, has joined the AORN Headquarters staff as an assistant director of education. She will co- ordinate educational workshops and re- gional institutes, according to Director of Education, Carol Alexander, RN. Miss Wells brings to AORN 13 years of experience in OR nursing. As an educator, she was director of an OR supervisor's course, and an instructor of OR technicians. She also has held positions as OR and cen- tral supply supervisor. Most recently she was group intermediate supervisor at the School of Health Care Sciences at Sheppard Air Force Base, Tex, where she taught nursing service manage- ment and supervision of the operating room. In addition, she served as a con- sultant to the Air Force Surgeon General on OR nursing. Miss Wells has a BS in nursing from Wash- Helen Wells ington University, St Louis, and a master's degree in nursing administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Miss Wells lists traveling as among her hobbies. Her 22-year career in the Air Force has taken her to France, London and North Africa, Her other hobbies include needlework, reading, walking, and listening to classical music. She is a member of the American Nurses' Association and its Continuing Education Council, and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. In the Air Force Miss Wells was also chairman of the department of nursing at the Air Force hospitals at Ran- dolph AFB and Chateauroux, France, and served a two-year tour as a flight nurse.
