Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Bibliographies

The online article provides deep insight into the life and works of Kazuo Ishiguro. While

describing the background and childhood of Ishiguro, the article by British Council gives

information on his other works of literature and awards he has claimed. While providing

ample information on his other works, the article provides us with the knowledge of

Ishiguro and how his novels became what they are today: realistic, meaningful, and soul

grabbing.

Ishiguro’s novels, including Never Let Me Go, portray the human emotions perfectly and

express feelings into words that grab the reader. His career started out working as a social

worker, a mentor and a community worker. With such a big background working with

fellow people, Kazuo Ishiguro learned about other people and their emotions because he

was constantly handling people. Having this information in the article may give the

reader a clearer picture of where is novel came from and may help make things more

clearer and more understandable. As the article makes clear, with as great experience as

he, what he learned about emotions shows up in his literature as he describes feelings that

have yet to be said.

The online article by Jane Brown provided a deeper look into the creative mind of Kazuo

Ishiguro and the history of his life. While also teaching the readers of Ishiguro the story

of how he got to where he is today, Brown also discussed all of Ishiguro's past works of

literature. Primarily, the article focuses on how Ishiguro’s life shaped him into the author

he is today and the similarities between his novel's, making them slightly less original.

While talking about his earlier career and education, Brown focuses on his published

novels in relation to each other. She claims that all his novel share the similar concept of

telling the story through memory to help them deal with the loss of something.

Comparing all these novels provides some basic information regarding Ishiguro’s novel

perhaps before they choose one to read.

In this New York Times article, Sarah Kerr, the author of “When They Were Orphans”,

states her harsh, over-analyzed thoughts on Never Let Me Go. The article reviews the

poorly planned, surprising, slightly confusing plot of the novel giving the viewer an idea

and opinion on their view of how the book goes. While still giving Kazuo Ishiguro praise

for his new piece of literature, the article generates a tone of confusion and perplexity as

it explores the plot flaws.

Kerr states that Ishiguro’s book tends to leave out information that may be useful to the

reader and slowly answers all the unknowns toward the end of the novel, sometimes

making it frustrating and confusing to a reader. The author also acknowledges the

unusual aspects and the oddness of the novel compared to Ishiguro’s other literature.

Kerr’s review offers accurate and relatable criticism that could be useful to many readers.

In the novel review of Never Let Me Go, Louis Menand critiques the novel and its flaws.

While still offering Ishiguro praise for his great works of literature and accomplishments,

Menand analysis’ all the missing pieces of the novel and lack of historical evidence. The

critics perspective on the literature has strong arguable points that can be appreciated by

the readers.

While being very insightful, Menand’s analysis of the novel can be easily comprehended

by all readers. He argues that the background does not have enough historical and

contextual evidence to provide a solid background to his non-realist, nearly sci-fi book.

Though it points out many downfalls and aspects that could be improved, the book’s

edgy and out of the ordinary topic provides a good read for those interested in shallow

characters, weak historical facts, and confusing plot lines.

The online article, published by The New York Times, provides an example of a real

organ donor/receivers story and additional information revolving around the uproar in

black market organ trade. Primarily, the article describes the situation of people that

consider organ donations. In addition, it describes the process of organ donations; it

provides the pro’s, con’s and reasoning behind giving/receiving a donated organ but does

not spend enough time highlighting the benfits of it.

This article follows the stories of people who chose to donate organs in order to gain

money and the reasonings behind it. The article is organized in a way to tell a story but

also provide you information on the topic with facts and statistics. The article can be

useful to scholars, students, or even someone with a curiosity on the topic because the

diction choice is academic but still level appropriate. Even though it still discusses how

organ donations are beneficial, the article does not spend enough time talking about the

importance and the difference that an organ donation truly makes. While lacking some

useful information this online article provides helpful information for someone interested

in learning about organ trade.

On the website article about human cloning, Simon Smith discusses twenty-two reasons

why cloning would benefit the human race. While it discusses many positive outcomes of

cloning, a prominent topic is how it helps infertile women and people having children

nearly identical to them. Many reasons are re-worded to become yet another reason; yet,

all of the topics are controversial and will have many viewers not look highly on them.

One of the things Simon Smith writes highly about is that parents can now choose the

genetics of their children which gives you the option to, in theory, have a later-born twin

of you. This lets you gain knowledge of how your child will grow up and what they will

excel in, but may also take the surprise out of raising a child with individuality. The

article states several other medical benefits to human cloning which makes the

controversial topic even more difficult for the reader to choose a side that they believe to

be politically correct.
