DESCRIPTION

Australia's taxi industry is presently facing unprecedented upheaval, with disruptive technologies - especially, global "ride sharing" giant, Uber - suddenly posing a competitive threat. But the taxi industry has no plans to submit to Uber's aggressive, big spending PR & lobbying campaign, encouraging users/drivers to break the law en masse. An upside to Uber's Australian debut is the pressure it's placed on politicians to review and address their collective stupidity in policy-making decisions over recent decades - in governments of both major party persuasions. While the task of comparing the offering of Uber v taxis is often based on superficial factors to which passengers are exposed, those most impacted by regulatory imbalance are operator who've made a significant capital investment - with the NSW Government among the key beneficiaries. Roula Angel was thrust into a tangle of red tape and testosterone before her father passed away, with the ultimatum "sink or swim".
