are very proud of the hard work that their students have put into their music-making and for their dedication and contributions to the Covington Fine Arts Program!

Last month Covington students raised $945 for Haiti Relief Fund. The jewelry club raised $245 in a silent auction. All the jewelry was hand-made by 6th and 7th graders in the jewelry club and 100% went to the Haiti Relief Fund. Students purchased a Shelter Box and tracked the box all the way to Haiti. To learn more visit shelterbox.org.

Covington Technical Education students design and construct real-world working projects. If you'd like to hire them for a project in May, please contact Mr. Godfrey at 841-3663.

The language arts department has an important announcement to make to congratulate the winners of the "Do The Write Thing" essay contest. All 7th grade students participated in the challenge by answering three questions in essay format--How has violence affected my life? What are the causes of violence? What can I do about violence? Although all students worked hard on this challenge, only one female and one male are chosen each year. This year, Covington's winners are.....Jonathan Delong and Sasha Moreno! These students will be honored at a banquet later this year

and will compete against other local winners for the grand prize--an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and a free laptop. Good Luck Jonathan and Sasha. We'll be rooting for you!

Yard of the moNth9304 Tea Rose Trail

Marlene and John Schatte have created an inviting landscape in their newly renovated front yard. They began by enlarging their sidewalk and front porch areas with new masonry and edging the flower beds with pavers. They then planted Indian Hawthorn which replaced hollies and boxwood and mulched all the new plants. After a trip to Fredericksburg for seeds, they potted Joseph's Coat, salvia and other flowering plants throughout the gardens and accented with charming animal statuary and installed walklights. A bird bath that

had been in the back yard was moved to the front and surrounded with more flowers and a solar powered house number sign. Marlene hopes the bird bath will encourage more feathered friends to the front of their house as they already have many visitors (including the highly entertaining squirrels) they feed in the back yard. Congratulations on a well planned and beautifully executed project.

Stork Report

Congratulations!Let us help celebrate...email info on the arrivalof your little one [email protected].

I want to stress again to all of you who have not joined the neighborhood association the importance of becoming a member. Our small neighborhood of 248 homes is a neighborhood that is 17 years old and is starting to show its age. It needs to be maintained and not doing our part could in the end leave us with a rundown place to live.

The main expense we have as a neighborhood is to take care of our front entrance. The city does not take care of it and without up keep on our part it would suffer. Without everyone paying their nominal yearly dues of $60.00 we will have trouble keeping our neighborhood looking like a place we want to come home to and be proud of.

We would also like to continue to have holiday and community activities in the neighborhood. Without enough support it will become difficult to continue to provide these functions. A neighborhood without an active association quickly deteriorates and home values decline.

Taking care of our personal properties, keeping them looking nice and in good condition while maintaining our property values is a must. It is time to get our homes painted, our yards tidied up and make our neighborhood a place others want to live . Those of us with weeds in our yards we need to get them under control. We have by-laws that need to be followed regardless if we are a dues paying member.

My plea to you is to get involved and do the right thing with your properties and pay your yearly dues of $60.00 so we can have a neighborhood that we can all be proud of!

THANK YOU,Carla Trautwein

You make us look good! A neatly landscaped and well-cared-for yard says a great deal about the homeowner and the entire neighborhood. It says we take pride in our property and in our neighborhood. Well-landscaped properties add to our home values as well. If there is a home in Cherry Creek that you would like to nominate for Yard of the Month, please email your suggestion to [email protected] or leave your written Yard of the Month address nomination in the front entrance drop box. There is no Yard of the Month during the winter months, January through March.

Falls, entrapments, and injuries lead to drowning regardless of swimming level.

NO ONE is “drown proof” – no matter their level of swimming ability.

A majority of people overestimate their own and their child’s ability to swim, especially in a panic event.
