COURSE OFFERINGS Interpersonal Conflict Resoluon Skills MAY 11 - MAY 16 Instructor: Neil Katz Mon-Fri 9-5; Sat 9-12 This course enhances communicaon and rapport-building skills to interact more effecvely and solve problems creavely. It provides a foundaon in reflecve listening, problem solving, asseron, and managing conflicts among needs and values. The course includes theory, demonstraons, skill pracce, and crique, as well as a workplace mediaon component. It is designed to have immediate and wide applicability in interpersonal and group sengs. Negoaon: Theory and Pracce MAY 17 - MAY 22 Instructor: Robert Rubinstein Sun 4-9p; Mon-Fri 9-5 This course introduces negoaon theory and the skills associated with successful pracce. It explores tensions between distribuve and integrave negoaon, principles of interest-based negoaon, importance of preparaon, sources of power, role of culture, and ways to overcome dirty tricks and other barriers to successful negoaon. An interacve learning approach is featured, using lecture, discussion, exercises and simulaons, to build personal capacies for successful negoang. Exercises include two- person to more complex mul-party negoaons, in both domesc and internaonal cases. This course focuses on the role and competencies of the facilitator in effecvely managing group process, group dynamics, and differences among group members. Among the subjects explored are contracng, design of agenda and process, stages of group development, observing and giving feedback on group dynamics, and managing group conflict. The Summer Instute is a series of workshop-style courses designed to enable parcipants to manage disputes and differences collaboravely in both professional and personal sengs.
