YouTube is a video-sharing website, created by three former PayPalemployees in February 2005 and owned by Google since late 2006, onwhich users can upload, view and share videos.
And if you don’t know, YouTube is a ‘Goldmine’.
It is the 3rd most popular website in the world (after Google andFacebook), and it is free to use. Think about that for a second.

Savvy marketers are making ridiculous amounts of money by rankingvideos and getting a ton of free traffic (viewers) to click on their links.
Add to that:
+ Video adds an element of realism to your marketing that the writtenword simply can’t.
+ It only takes a few minutes to record a video
+ Videos on YouTube are easier to rank and less time-consuming tomake than articles
+ You can make a video on your IPhone while out and get it up online(your own virtual real-estate)

Keyword Research
This is a vital component and imperative if you want your videos to beseen by a large number of folk.
Before you even consider recording your video, you need to do yourresearch. But don’t fear, this isn’t like writing an academic paper. Youjust need to follow some simple steps each time.
‘Keyword Research’ is simply finding out what things people are lookingfor on the Internet (what terms they are typing into Google) and howmany other people have made videos and articles on the same ‘term’.

And you do your research as follows:
+ Use a Free Keyword Research Tool such as the Google KeywordPlanner or the free version of Jaaxy.
+ Think of what potential viewers would type into Google and searchfor that Keyword
+ Only make a video if there are over 100 monthly searches and thecompetition is low (medium to high are only doable if you have someexperience)
+ Under 100 monthly searches and it isn’t worth your time.

Recording the Video
Most folk think that they need a lot of equipment and technicalexpertise….Wrong!
You just need something to record the video and the ability to speak.

Does making a video scare you? Does getting in front of the cameramake you want to run and crawl under the bed? If so, then read on.
Making videos needn’t be scary and here is why.
+ No-one cares what you look like! No one!
+ Everyone is so wrapped up in their own world and worried about howTHEY look that your bad hair day or pimple is of no concern to them.Only you care about that….
+ If you’ve made the choice to go ahead and make them, thenworrying isn’t going to help anyone.

After you have made 5-10 you will begin to feel comfortable and afterthat it will flow...you just gotta get started.

a) A familiar introduction. This could be an intro (you can outsourcethis) or just a phrase that you use:
“Hey guys, Adam Payne coming at you all the way from my home officehere in Nagoya, Japan”.
Familiarity breeds a comfortable feeling for the viewer.
b) Good quality content
This goes without saying. Your content must be of value. By that Imean: solve a problem, entertain, teach….
Minimal or no fluff would be preferable
c) A call to actionThis is vital! A video with no call to action is almost pointless. It will notachieve its goal….which is getting folk off of YouTube and onto yourblog/capture page.

Remember….
We are in the entertainment industry. Sure you can bemotivational, educational, inspiring and so on but you better entertain.Shock people, make them laugh, cry...put a smile on their face.Whatever….but entertain them.
Use the camera in interesting locations if you can.
How long should a video be?
Research has shown that after 3 minutes, 70% of your audience hasgone. 90% will have disappeared after 5 minutes.

Longer videos are ok every now and then, but many folk have A.D.D sodon’t go on too long.
Recording and Uploading
Recording:
+ Get rid of all distractions. Turn off other applications and the phone
+ Have a glass of water just in case (after having gone to thebathroom)
+ Ensure you have good lighting.
+ Relax
Uploading:
CRUCIAL! After you have recorded our video the first step is to exportthe video onto your desktop preferably as an MP4 File.
You need to give this file a name.
You MUST name this file using your keyword. For example:
How to Make sushi.MP4 (an example file name).
Ninja Tip:Try to go for two keywords at once, and leverage the easier to rankphrase to increase your chances of ranking for the more difficult term.Let me explain:
a) You want to rank for the phrase ‘How to make sushi’. BUT, that has ahigh competition and some of the other videos have a ton of views and

b) So you decide to also rank for the term ‘ Sushi for beginners’ as thathas much less competition.
c) You shoot your video on the above topics and then name the file likethis:
How to make sushi | A sushi for beginners video.MP4
d) Now you will rank much sooner for the term ‘sushi for beginners’. Andif your video is short, and offers a good viewing experience, people will‘like’ it, leave comments and recommend it.
e) This will in turn please the search engines and as a result, you willbegin to get more link juice and climb the rankings for the hardersearch term.
If you had simply only gone for ‘how to make sushi’, you would probablybe left stranded on page 10, with the rejects of yesteryear.
OK….moving on.
Upload your Video
Once the file is on your desktop, log into your YouTube account and hitthe upload button.

Your video will upload automatically. You can see the image below and check outthe file name.

Once it is uploaded it is time to get to work my friend and do some good ol’fashioned On Page Optimization (this is really geeky stuff but luckily not hard...youjust gotta know what to do).

And all of that is also known as on page SEO (Search EngineOptimization).
On Page SEO
So let’s try and make this simple to follow without boring the pants offyou.
Basically, you need to get your ‘keyword’ in a few places on your videoand do a few things to help rank your video on the search engines onceit has been uploaded.
So, as your video uploads, the title will automatically populate. Leavethat be.
Step 1) Write a description (200-400 words). Have your keyword at thestart, the end and dotted throughout.
Don’t do any keyword stuffing! This means putting your keyword in thedescription a gazillion times. This stuff doesn't work anymore!
The first 2 lines of your description only will be visible to your viewers soensure that any link you want the viewer to click on in the first 2 lines.See below:

Ok, the next step is to add your tags.

Make sure you add a variety of tags. You can also spy on what yourcompetitors are doing

To ethically spy on your competitors, here’s what you do.
a) Go to Google and type the keyword you are going for.b) Open up the top ranking video in YouTube and hit pause.c) Control and right clickd) Bring up the ‘source code’e) Among the data brought up, you can find the keywords they are using
and ensure you use them to. That way, they have no advantage overyou (this is NINJA right here)
Add Annotations:
When viewers watch your masterpiece, the keyword appears in a box onyour video and stays up for a pre-determined amount of time.

To get an annotation up you need to:
Hit the little ‘pen’ like icon below the video called Info and settingsGo to annotations (located above your videoHit Add annotation (see image below)
+ Choose from the drop down list+ Add your keyword to the box and hit save and publish.

Extra Ideas for Annotations
1. Add a “note” annotation asking viewers to subscribe.2. Add a “spotlight” annotation that links to your latest video.3. Add a “speech bubble” annotation asking viewers to “click like” or
“save to favorites” if they enjoyed the video.

Closed Captions
YouTube will (usually after 12-24 hours) transcribe what you havesaid...supposedly.
Let’s say that they...umm...do a pretty poor job of it.
What you need to do is go into your closed captions, add your keywordand tidy them up a bit so that they actually make a bit of sense, andthen disable the old ones (and keep the new spruced up version).Ensure that in the new version, your keyword is in there at least 4 times(at the start, end, and twice in the middle).
Simply find the closed captions icon. It looks like this:
Then hit the ‘English’ icon.

You will soon see that YouTube have basically transcribed a load ofrubbish.
What you need to do is go through and add your keyword at least 4times. If YouTube has transcribed your keyword correctly, then you arein luck.
If not, you now know what to do.
Like everything. Save when done.
Then, disable the automatic track and leave your new one that you justedited enabled (again, the videos show you how to do this as writingabout it would sound confusing).
Ok…Put the kettle back on and let’s move on to Off Page Optimization.In short, getting your video out there.
Off Page SEO
If you thought on page SEO was geeky stuff, this is hardcore Nerdville.The only thing is get this right, and you can rank and rake (in thecash).

Let’s do the nerdy stuff first.
Wikipedia refers to a backlink as:
Incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, abacklink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory,website, or top level domain) from another web site.
You still here? I almost nodded off myself.
Ok…. In simpleton terms, and that suits me just fine, a backlink is yourvideo URL on another website.
Who pushed my picture over?
You want a lot of them, and a wide variety. Get that sorted and youare basically home and dry.
OK.so here is a quick way of getting some of these backlinks and wewill start with the easy and obvious to the least easy and erm..leastobvious…
First of all though, we need to let Google know that some contenthas been created.

FIRST, go to the Google adwords planner and paste your video URL intothe box to crawl your keyword. This is telling Google to crawl your video(Killer Tip here and no-one does this).
Next we go and do some Pinging and Indexing
Pinging
This is where we take our video URL, and add it to free sites likePingler, Pingomatic and Mass-pinger. Super quick and super important.
NEVER forget to do this!
Indexing:Go to this site and add your video URL and hit ‘Rapid index’http://www.indexkings.com

It’s no secret that Google Likes ‘action’ on your video. The more likes,views and comments the better.
Trouble is, this is where most people (and certain products) goall-unethical and encourage what is termed (Black-hat)
Black-hat simply means unethical scummy actions that are totallydishonest.
Trouble is, they can work (albeit for a short time) and thus folk who arelazy try them.
Buying views from a site like Fiverr.com is one such method. Be warned.YouTube will find out and remove your vid 90% of the time.
Look, this is your call but my advice is do this ‘the right way’ and you willwin in the end….and feel a damn sight cleaner for it.
So move yonder and create your videos.
All the above means nothing if you don’t take action!
Do the geeky stuff and get them ranked.
Then all you need to do is sit back, admire your work and enjoy yourpayday…
