The Transfer Admissions and Advising Committee (TAAC) is pleased to welcome you to its second annual Transfer Conference. We are pleased to have here today many higher ed related professionals from the region. TAAC concentrates its efforts on a variety of transfer student issues within admissions and advising. We are proud that this conference is a resource for professionals in the process of supporting students' post-secondary educational goals. From our keynote speaker to our session presenters, we are fortunate to have attracted respected professionals in their fields, and we are excited about the quality of their presentations.
The purpose of the conference is to gather interested student-centered individuals and organizations to disseminate relevant information. We seek opportunities to brainstorm, network, and better educate transfer professionals about the intricacies of the transfer process as it relates to the future of higher education. The overarching goal of the conference is to better serve transfer students, as well as institutional interests and support professionals in the field.

This session will discuss the importance of examining more than just degree completion
when measuring the success of community college students. Participants will learn about
the role self-efficacy and internal motivation play in the success of community college
students. In addition, those in attendance will gain a better understanding of how to
assess the goals of students entering the community college and how to help them
achieve their stated goal. Lastly, participants will develop an understanding of how
best to measure student success within this new paradigm.

A combat-decorated veteran and faculty member addresses the return of the student-
veteran to higher education. This session will ask how a community college or university
can successfully reach out to its veteran community. A positive first step can be to sponsor
a film showing designed to create a healing and open atmosphere for all students veterans
and campus community.

As one of our transfer students put it last year "Transfer Day took the stress out of
transferring". Admissions and transfer staff preform a great service to students by
facilitating their transfer to an appropriate upper level, senior institution. Not all
community college students enter their freshman year with all four undergraduate
years, all 120 credits mapped out with contingency plans, majors and minors selected.
They rely on us to help them along their way. This workshop will allow discussion on
these relevant issues. We will also discuss on-site programs that serve as a major transfer
vehicle for our community college grads.

Finding the right fit in a transfer school can be difficult. As an LGBTQ student the
process may feel even more complicated. Attend this session to find out some factors you
may want to consider when helping an LGBTQ student make the right choice, including
but not limited to how to determine if a campus is a Safe Space, and what it truly means
for an institution to be “gay friendly.” This session will also cover the vocabulary and
language used to address the LGBTQ community, and other tools that will assist students
as they transfer from a community college to a four year institution.

In 2013, the transfer students requested a focus group so they could tell the Office of
Student Success about the obstacles they faced as they adjusted to being a new student.
Their feedback created a road map for improving the transition experience. Starting in
Fall 2014, Transfer Orientation has grown to include activities throughout the first week,
former transfer students serve as on-going mentors, the new student Orientation session
was revamped, and we were explicit about how to create social networks at SJU.
Feedback from the focus group and the Transition Week plan will be shared.

Transfer students are sometimes referred to as the “Forgotten Student!” I think NOT!
Transfer students on most campuses make up the majority of those who will be entering
your institution and walking across your graduation stage. Regardless of the size of your
transfer student population, these students should be treated as a new student. This
presentation will review the importance of transfer orientation programs, supporting
the transfer transition, and how you can develop a plan to assist your transfer student
population to be seen and not forgotten.

Given transfer students' unique needs throughout their transitions in higher education and
their increasing prominence in the college admission context, the National Association
for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has designed a new online resource called
the Transfer Knowledge Hub to assist professionals in their work to support transfer
students. Learn about what this new resource offers, the latest research around best
practices for supporting transfer students, and engage in group discussion to identify
challenges and potential solutions in the field.

Transfer Admissions: The Opportunities and Challenges of Recruiting, Admitting, and Enrolling Transfer Students at Temple University
With an increase in adult students returning to complete a degree or transfer to a four year
institution, many area schools offer accelerated degree completion programs, evening
courses and a variety of options for working adults completing their bachelor’s degrees.
In terms of the transfer process, the needs for adult students are different from traditional
students. This workshop is geared towards advisors and staff who work closely with
non-traditional students and will describe how the Transfer Office at Delaware County
Community College has implemented new interventions to assist adult students through
the transfer process, including advertising materials and workshops.

Over the past year, there have been significant developments with the ability to marry your own
data with digital marketing strategies. Whether it be prospect pools, CRM data, or feeder school
lists, you can now reach your audiences with specific messaging at every point of the cycle
through digital channels. And potentially more powerful, particularly for transfer recruitment,
you can use your data to focus digital delivery right onto the campuses of your feeder schools/
community colleges. These are just a few of the examples of what you’ll take away from this
session. Topics covered will include IP Targeting, Retargeting, Google analytics insight for
transfer, look-alike modeling, feeder school strategies, and much more – all from the angle
of leveraging data you already have access to as a Transfer Admission Professional.
