Rr(Pink) --- f1 generation

Genotype of F1 generation: RrThis is an example of incomplete dominance

18.Ans:

19. Ans :- Since, there are only four bases, which code for twenty amino acids, the code should be made up of three bases, i.e., (4×4×4) = 64 codons.

If the codon consists of four letters only (4×4) sixteen codes are possible, which is less then the required. Hence the codon is triplet. As the ribosome moves on mRNA the codons are read in contiguous manner

20. Ans:- The three features are

(i) Origin of Replication/ori Site from here, the replication starts (and any piece of DNA when linked can be made to replicate within the host cell.

Later give the way to some very small plants like bryophytes, which are able to take hold in the small amount of soil.Bigger plants grow and after several more stages, ultimately a stable climax forest community is formed.

Climax community remains stable as long as the environment remains unchanged. With time , the xerophytic habitat gets converted into a mesophytic one

22. Ans: The gene pool (total genes and their alleles in a population) remains a constant, this is called genetic equilibrium. For example,When individual in a population is simply p2 and both the chromosomes of a diploid individual is simply the product of the probabilities, i.e., q2 similarly q2 and 2qp.

p2+ 2pq+q2 = 1

Binomial expansion of (p+q) 2 when frequency measured difference from expected values, the difference in direction indicates the extent of evolutionary change

23. Ans:- Structure of an antibody molecule

OR

(i) Neutrophils and macrophages dispose of microbes and dead cells by feeding on them. Hence, they are called soldiers and scavengers of the animal body.

(ii) Consumption of alcohol causes blurred vision; slow response impairs judgment and reduces coordination of limbs. Hence, one should avoid driving after consuming alcohol.

(iii) Persistant use of corticosteroids is harmful because it causes osteoporosis

24 Ans: - Various measures to be undertaken are (i) Selection of high yielding and disease resistance breeds. (ii) Good quality and quantity of fodder to be given to cattle.

(iii) Maintaining good hygienic conditions among cattle and the handlers. (iv) Proper storage and transport facilities should be provided. (v) Monitoring of cattle health through regular visit by a vet nary doctor

25. Ans:- Bird population in an area of a lake may decline due to biomagnifications caused by industrial effluents discharged in water bodies.Toxic substance, present in Industrial waste water enters the aquatic food chain. Toxic substance is accumulated by an organism and passed onto next higher trophic level, e.g., DDT.

Its concentration is increased by from, 003 ppm to 25 ppm in fish eating birds. High concentration of DDT disturbs the calcium metabolism and causes thinning of egg shell and premature breaking causing decline in bird population.

26. Ans: i. IVF- In Vitro Fertilization Ii.ZIFT- Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer

Iii.IUI- Intra Uterine Transfer Iv.MTP- Medical Termination of PregnancyIUI- This technique helps in artificial insemination. In this technique, the semen collected either from the husband or from a healthy donor is artificially introduced either into the vagina or into the uterus (IUI) of the female

27. Ans: India was among the first countries in the world to initiate action plans and programmes at a national level to attain total reproductive health as a social goal.

i.'Family planning ' was initiated I 1951 and was periodically assessed over the past decades.Ii.Improved programs covering wider reproductive areas are currently in operation under the popular name 'Reproductive and Child Health Care (RCH) programs'.Iii.Creating awareness among the people about various reproduction related aspects and providing facilities and support for building up a reproductively healthy society are the major tasks under these programs

28.Ans :- (i) Causes for Air Pollution Smoke stacks of thermal power plants.

Smelters and other industries release participate and gaseous air pollutants together with harmless gases such as, nitrogen and ox

OR (i) (a) Climax Community :The composition and structure of community constantly change in response to the changing environmental conditions. These changes lead finally to a community that is near equilibrium with the environment and that is called a climax community.

(b) Sere: the entire sequences of communities that successfully change in a given area are called sere.(c) Ecological Succesion: The gradual and fairly predictable change in the species composition of a given area is called ecological succession.(d) Pioneer Species: The species that invade a bare area are called pioneer species.

(ii) Use of Biodiversity in Modern Agriculture:Agrochemicals cause pollution of soil and water and are too expensive for farmers.Genetic modification has made the crops more tolerant to abiotic stresses like cold, heat, drought, salinity, etc. It has reduced the dependence of crops on chemical pesticides as they are pest resistant.

29.Ans :- A mature pollen grain has two layered wall-outer exine and the inner intine. Mature pollen grain contains a large vegetative cell along with vegetative nucleus and a small generative cell.

The function of different parts of pollen grain is

(i) Exine outer layer exine is made up of sporopollenin, which is resistant to physical and biological decomposition. Exine has one or many germ pores on its surface which are associated with the germination of pollen grains.

(ii) Intine Inner layer intine is pecto-cellulosic in nature. It is a associated with the germination of pollen tube.

(b) Neck this region contains proximal centriole, which is necessary for the first cleavage division of zygote and the distal centriole that is connected to the tail filament.

(c) Middle Piece It contains numerous mitochondria which provide energy for the movement of sperm.

(d) Tail It contains axial filaments surrounded by the plasma membrane. It helps the sperm to swim in a fluid medium.

30.Ans :- DNA fingerprinting is a technique used to identify individuals on the basis of their DNA profile. It is based on the fact that DNA of one individual is about 90% identically the DNA of another individual, but 10% of the DNA is different. Thus 10% of DNA is unique and used to distinguish individuals.

Application of DNA Fingerprinting(i) In Forensics A tiny bit of a person’s body parts such as hair or skin can be used identify the criminal by this technique.(ii) Paternity Testing The genome of every individual is the combination of genomes of father and mother. A close comparison of DNA band of a child with that of father gives direct evidence of his paternity. A step child will have different DNA bands. In India, first paternity dispute was solved in Tellichery Kerala. In 1991, Indian Judiciary accepted this technique as evidence in the court of law.(iii) Diagnosis of Hereditary Diseases Diseases like haemophilic thalassemia, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and many can be diagnosed using this technique.(iv) Selecting Antibiotics for Treatment Disease causing bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics. This is a matter of concern DNA fingerprinting is used to identify the antibiotics for which the bacterium is resistant and thus select the right antibiotic for treatment.ORMale sex is determined by Y-chromosome which does not bear the gene for haemophilia. When a normal marries as a carrier female, the resultant off springs will as follows.

Normal man Carrier woman XY XXh --Parents

X Y X Xh -- Gametes

XX XXh XY Xh Y —Offspring

Normal girl Carrier girl Normal boy haemophilic boy 1 1 1 1
