Henry Mintzberg says to Henri Fayol, I like your first name, but I think you are wrong… your method just is too simple
It’s Like a Play at the Theatre
Mintzberg says that a manager has to play a range of different roles requiring a range of skills and an ability to react to a range of different situations
Turn to the person next to you and quiz them on the various roles they play in their life. E.g. brother, sisterDoes the range of skills change with the role? Why?

Change Management
Business life is fast. Management is responsible for embracing this fast paced, changing industry to ensure the company achieves a competitive edge. Adaptability is key. Change is good.
There is no room for fence sitting in business
X
Social Justice
Business Managers have a responsibility to stakeholders to utilise their power and influence for the good of society.
Ecological Sustainability
Climate change &recycling is huge news in business right now. Business Managers have a responsibility to stakeholders to uphold long-term sustainable strategies. Investors look kindly upon a company with an environmentally friendly approach
Take some time to investigate businesses on the web and see what environmental policies they have. There is heaps of info on this.
Compliance with the Law
Business Managers must have a sound understanding of the laws and regulations that they work within. Big point of discussion at the moment is Occupational Health & Safety.
As an example, research the amount of rules and regulations required these days to be a builder.
Codes of Practice
For good behaviour to occur at all levels of the organisation, there must be a serious commitment by management to promote respect for all stakeholders, employees and customers with clearly defined codes of behaviour.
As an example, research the code of practice changes made to Australia’s insurance industry back in 2004
