USAF Academy ARDA Model
Every EXPERIENCE has the potential to be an
amazing opportunity to develop as a leader
if you can just ENGAGE yourself with it!
According to the USAF Academy, we need to
“engage with the world as potential leaders and people of
character” and for this, they recommend the ARDA Model:
Awareness: Look for the moments and
experiences you can learn from.
Reasoning: Figure out what factors should
weigh on the decision and action you
need to make.
Decision: Decide what you are going to do and in-
sure that this lines up with who you want to be.
< The Decision—Action Gap:
You must overcome your fears and doubt
to do what is right.
Action: Make your action, but insure that you
can respect yourself after you’ve done so.

Lt Col Jack L. Schofield
World War II US Army Air Forces “Flying Tiger”
“You must never give up.
Never, never, never, NEVER!” -Winston Churchill
“Every day, in every way, I get better and better! If it is to be,
it is up to me! Quitters never win, and winners never quit!”
“I’m not better than anybody,
but I’m as GOOD as anybody.”

Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger
Walk-on player for the Notre Dame Football Team
“Eliminate confusion from your thoughts.
One goofy thought can stop you
from being the person you want to be.”
“Inspiration is the key
to who you are.”
“Don’t worry about what
the other person thinks.”

SMSgt Lee Davis, USAF Quality Assurance Superintendent for the USAF Thunderbirds
"Where else would you rather be
than right here, right now?" -Marv Levy
“You learn just as much from a
bad leader, sometimes more than
you can [from a] good leader.”
“Look
in the mirror,
make the
hard choices,
make the
right choices.”

Mark Jackson
Former Wide Receiver in the NFL
“Nothing in this world can take the place of PERSISTANCE.
Talent will not … Genius will not … Education will not …
PERSISTANCE and DETERMINATION alone are omnipotent.
The slogan "PRESS ON" has solved and always will solve
the problems of the human race.” -Calvin Coolidge, 30th US President
“What you
need in
your life is
direction.”
“You have to get comfortable
with the skin that you’re in.”

Cadet WIPEOUT!
Wrought with challenges like
pushups, sit-ups, squats, knee-
highs, jumping jacks and more,
all while wearing a weighted
flak jacket, many of them
viewed the course as impossible
only to prove themselves wrong.
The cadets pushed them-
selves farther than they ever
thought they could go be-
fore by tackling an extreme
obstacle course.

Quotations from our Guest Speakers
“Anything in life is possible
if you make it happen.” -Jack LaLanne
“I love you. You love me. We're a
happy family. With a great big
hug and a kiss from me to you,
won't you say you love me too?”
“Hard work beats talent,
when talent doesn’t work.”
“There is a difference between
enlisting...and actually joining.
When did you truly subscribe to
the philosophy of the Air Force?”
