Market Profile

EconomyMaury County, 30 miles south of Nashville, covers the cities of Columbia, Spring Hill and Mt. Pleasant, TN, and serves as a base for General Motors, IB-Tech, Sekisui Plastics USA and the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation. Top industries in Maury County include manufacturing, automotive production, health care and retail. Maury County’s family-friendly charm, top-notch health care and education add to its high quality of life.

Spring Hill was the site of the Saturn Corporation production facility, which operated from 1990 to 2007. The Saturn S-Series, Saturn ION, and Saturn VUE were produced there. In 2007, General Motors Corporation, the parent company of Saturn, shut down the facility to retool it for production of other GM vehicles and renamed it Spring Hill Manufacturing. The plant reopened in February 2008 and became the assembly point for the new Chevrolet Traverse. In November 2011, GM announced plans for retooling of the vehicle assembly portion of the plant for use as an “ultra-flexible” plant which will initially be used to build the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain but will be designed for rapid retooling to other vehicles of similar size. With an enviable location on the I-65 corridor 30 miles south of Nashville, Maury County has enjoyed a burst in business growth that shows no signs of stopping. Attracting corporate investment and jobs, it prepares for the future by taking care of the

businesses it has today.

TransportationA solid transportation network remains a driving force for the economy in Maury County, where major highways converge with Class I rail service and a regional airport to serve companies moving goods across the country. For firms with truck distribution and logistics needs, Maury County’s central location in Tennessee and the Southeast offers easy proximity to Interstate 65, State Route 840 and U.S. Highways 412, 43 and 31. The area is within a four-hour drive of major Southeastern markets like Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Lexington, Louisville and Memphis.

Market Profile

EducationTennessee’s Drive to 55 seeks to equip 55 percent of Tennesseans with a college degree or certificate by 2025 – an ambitious goal that is well within reach, thanks to initiatives like Tennessee Promise, which provides graduating high school seniors with free tuition for two years at a community college or college of applied technology. Nowhere is this push more evident than in Maury County, where dozens of specially trained volunteer mentors are helping prospective students transition from high school to college, and where higher education institutions like Columbia State Community College are finding ways to provide students with broader access to the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.

HealthcareMaury County is making a name for itself in health care. With an outstanding medical center, partnerships with Nashville’s best hospitals, and new pediatric, emergency and outpatient facilities in Spring Hill, area residents can easily access cutting-edge care close to home. Columbia-based Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is highly ranked by the nation’s top hospital rating agencies for its quality care and best medical practices. The medical center is consistently named among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, and was the only Tennessee hospital to attain the Everest Award, which honors hospitals that have achieved the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.

The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading health-care accreditation authority, also designated Maury Regional as a top-performing hospital for its exemplary performance in using effective processes to improve care for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.

Nashville-based TriStar Health has also opened a 12-bed emergency room in Spring Hill that provides 24-hour emergency care. The new facility includes board-certified physicians and experienced critical care staff, 12 private patient rooms – including a trauma room, decontamination room and child-friendly rooms – and a helipad to expedite transfers of critically ill or injured patients to area hospitals. TriStar ER at Spring Hill also offers state-of-the-art imaging, diagnostic and treatment services, advanced lab and imaging diagnostics.
