Name of Course: 3D Model Making
Entry Requirements: This course is aimed at those who are interested in 3D
construction and model making. No previous experience is necessary.
Brief Description: Pupils will work with the following media – clay , modroc,
wire, cardboard and thin wood - and then work to a theme to create a final
piece. This could be an architectural model, a sculpture, or a product.
Certification: There is no award at the end of this course but it provides a good grounding in skills and techniques and complements coursework in a number of subject areas.
Next Steps: This would be a useful course for those considering product or
architectural design as a career. It would also be helpful for those doing Art
and Design, as the skills learned would help with both the Expressive and
Design folios.
Name of Course: The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness course (CoPE).
Entry Requirements: This course is aimed at students who are considering pathways leading to employment.
Brief Description: : The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness course (CoPE) aims to enable candidates to develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills leading to personal effectiveness. Through a variety of challenges you will complete 12 modules ranging in theme from ‘The Environment’ to ‘Sport & Leisure’, ‘Communication’ to ‘Expressive Arts’. You will also develop skills in working with others, planning, delivering presentations and research.
Certification: Candidates who are successful will receive an ASDAN award, equivalent to a National 4 or National 5 SQA qualification depending on their independence.
Next Steps: Employment, College vocational courses and College preparation courses- eg Preparation for College, Introduction to Care, Introduction to Construction etc.
Name of Course: Computer Games Development -National Progression
Award SCQF Level 4
Entry Requirements: An interest in ICT and graphics is required.
Course Description: This course gives you the opportunity to investigate the
computing gaming industry, understand the concepts of digital gaming design,
create a game and collaborate in an enterprising activity to promote a game.
Developing games relies on a range of creative skills such as art, design, animation, audio and programming. Computer Games: Design - To understand the concepts and principals involved in digital game design by planning and designing a computer game. Computer Games: Media Assets - To understand the different types of media assets required for developing a computer game by producing media assets for use in a game development environment. Computer Games: Development To understand the processes in the final stages of computer game development by producing a working game and promoting a computer game. DofE Inclusion for Girls (SCQF Level 5)
The DofE inclusion programme can be selected by girls who have taken part in
or who are interested in furthering their personal development through
accredited inclusion programmes. This course provides opportunities for girls
who find it more difficult to access extra-curricular programmes to share their
cultural heritage and to promote success and self-esteem within the DofE
framework.

The DofE Inclusion Programme The programme uses specific courses from the DofE’s Modular Training Framework to introduce topics such as guiding principles, theory of group and teamwork, negotiation, planning skills and much more. The girls will put their skills into practice by volunteering with younger groups within the school curriculum, lunch clubs and in extra-curricular activities. The course has four core modules:
Introduction to the DofE
Team work/leadership skills
Managing a DofE group
Practical DofE leadership
Modules & delivery There are four modules available to young people. Delivery of the modules is flexible and can be determined by the young people and their DofE Leader/Tutor. At the heart of the delivery should be the young people and their learning needs. Each module has between four to eight Learning Outcomes which should be met for each module undertaken. They do not need to be completed in sequence, although the Introduction to DofE module should be undertaken first. Each module, and its associated learning outcomes, can be delivered over two to three days, as part of a 12 month programme or as a residential opportunity. Each module is approximately 12 hours in duration except the Practical DofE Leadership module which is approximately 17 hours.
Name of Course - Environmental Science National 3/4 The purpose of the Course is to develop learners’ interest and enthusiasm for environmental science in a range of contexts, as well as their investigative and experimental skills. Environmental science takes a problem solving approach to attempt to develop solutions that prevent or reverse environmental deterioration and aim for sustainable practices. The Course aims to develop an understanding of environmental issues. It provides a range of up-to-date topics relevant to the role of environmental science in society. Through the Course, learners will investigate the key areas of the living environment, the Earth and its resources. It allows learners the opportunity to investigate sustainability and sustainable development. Learners will be able to consider the impact environmental science makes on their lives, on the lives of others, on the environment, and on society. This will enable learners to become scientifically literate citizens, able to review the science-based claims, which they will meet. In this Course, and its component Units, there will be an emphasis on skills development and the application of those skills. Assessment approaches will be proportionate, fit for purpose and will promote best practice, enabling learners to achieve the highest standards they can. This Course provides learners with opportunities to continue to acquire and develop the attributes and capabilities of the four capacities as well as skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work The three units-
1. Living Environment-Learners will investigate the key areas of sampling
and identifying living things, from different habitats, to compare their
diversity; factors influencing the distribution of living things; the process
of photosynthesis and why plants are vital to sustaining life on Earth; the
use of different types of chemicals in agriculture and their alternatives;
and the potential impact of chemicals and their alternatives on the
world’s food production.
2. Earth’s resources-Learners will investigate the key areas of renewable
energy sources including benefits and potential problems; formation,
characteristics and uses of minerals; formation, characteristics and uses
of common rocks; formation, characteristics and uses of soils; and useful
substances which can be extracted from natural resources.
3. Sustainability-Learners will investigate the key areas of processes which
may contribute to climate change; the possible impact of atmospheric
change on the survival of living things; and the causes and possible
consequences of an environmental issue, and ways to manage the
impact.
Successful pupils can progress to National 4, National 5 and Higher
Environmental Science.
Name of Course: IT Essentials
Entry Requirements: An interest in ICT and computer applications is required.
Brief Description: The IT Essentials curriculum provides an introduction to the computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level ICT professionals. The course covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts such as security, networking and the responsibilities of an ICT professional.
The course includes the following features:
Students develop working knowledge of how computers operate, how to assemble computers and how to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
Hands on lab and virtual learning tools help students develop critical thinking and complex problem solving skills.
The course emphasises the practical application of skills and procedures needed to install and upgrade hardware and software and troubleshoot systems.
CISCO Packet-Tracer simulation –based learning activities allow students to experiment with network designs and configurations.
Interactive assessments provide immediate feedback to support the evaluation of acquired knowledge and skills.

Next Steps: The IT essentials curriculum emphasizes practical experience to help students develop fundamental computer and career skills. ITE helps students prepare for entry-level career opportunities in ICT and the Comp TIA A+ certification. The course also provides a learning pathway to Cisco CCNA.
Name of Course: Music Technology and Sound Production
SQA’s Music Technology qualifications provide opportunities for learners to
use music technology in sound production and to develop skills in musical
analysis. Learners develop their knowledge and understanding of music
technology and musical concepts relevant to 20th and 21st century music.
Entry Requirements: This course is for any range of experiences from complete beginners. There will be the opportunity to gain some Music Technology National Qualification units from N3-AH level.
Brief Description: The aims of the Course are to enable learners to:
develop skills in the use of music technology hardware and software to capture and manipulate audio
use music technology creatively in sound production in a range of contexts
develop skills in musical analysis in the context of 20th and 21st century musical styles and genres
develop a broad understanding of the music industry, including an awareness of the implications of intellectual property
critically reflect on their own work and that of others # Learners will use music technology skills in a range of contexts which may include: sound engineering for live stage performances, radio broadcast, composing and/or sound design for film, TV themes, adverts and computer gaming. Certification: There will be the opportunity to gain some Music Technology National Qualification units from N3-AH level. Next Steps: This course would be an excellent start and introduction to music technology. With job opportunities in music, film, video recording arts, television and media post-production, computer gaming, music technology is a career with strong growth potential.
Name of Course: Photography
Entry Requirements: This is an entry-level course and no previous experience is necessary. It is aimed at those interested in learning or improving photographic skills. Pupils would need to provide their own camera.
Brief Description: Pupils will choose their own themes, and will work in and out of doors . The course will cover – composing and arranging your shots ; lighting equipment and effects ; angles and viewpoints ; and how to change the settings on your camera for different effects . At the end of the course, pupils will have a folio of printed photos.
Certification: There is no award at the end of this course but it provides a good grounding in skills and techniques and complements coursework in a number of subject areas.
Next Steps: This would be a useful first step for pupils interested in photography as a career, or who wish to add to their skills for their Art and Design course – these skills could be used within the S4 Expressive folio.
Name of Course: SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership
Entry Requirements: No previous leadership experience required but a keen interest in sport and working with others.
Brief Description: The SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership provides the ideal starting point for students who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their teacher.
The syllabus is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the student..
The SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership is a practical qualification in which learners must demonstrate their ability to lead others in simple sport/activity.
Certification: Students will be assessed on a formative basis throughout the year and will receive an ‘SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership’ on successful completion. Students will also receive 7 SCQF credits.

SCQF Level 5 in Community Sports Leadership
SCQF Level 6 in Higher Sports leadership
Name of Course: Presentation and Communication skills
Entry Requirements: No previous experience required, this is a practical course
suitable for anyone.
Brief Description: Pupils would be taken through two practical units which would include, creating characters, telling stories, using different skills to structure stories, developing social skills, designing for drama including costume, props, lights and sound, performing and demonstrating production skills. This course covers the requirements of the National 3 Drama course.
Creative practical sessions would be supported by theory and a written journal.
Certification: Pupils would be assessed internally, and are likely to meet the
requirements of National 3 Drama in the course of acquiring presentation
skills.
Next Steps: This course would be a useful first step for any student but is
particularly useful for those considering study/ careers in the theatre, teaching,
television, the creative arts industries and generally to improve social skills.
They would gain the ability to present confidently as part of working routines
or to fulfil requirements of awards in other subjects.
Progression routes might include National 4/5 Drama.
Name of Course: Preparation for Employment
Entry Requirements: No previous experience required but a clear idea of the areas of employment/ work experience being sought.
Brief Description: In line with the school’s previous approach to providing work experience across S4, a programme of personal development activities and actual placement with local employer would be devised. This would build on the skills and interests of the young person, give them an awareness of the requirements being sought by potential employers and give practice in CV preparation, application and interview skills and health and safety practices as appropriate to the area of work being considered.
Certification: There is no formal accreditation for this course but where possible it will be used to meet the requirements of other awards e.g. the Saltire Awards for the voluntary sector, the skill component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, unit awards in SQA courses relating to working with others etc.
