Innovat ive Collaborat ion: Inaugural C-Suite Round TableSee how NAHSE South Flor ida is helping to shape the presence of IT in Healthcare

The C-Suite Round Table was a collaborative effort between NAHSE, leaders in the healthcare community, and Community Care Plan (CCP), a member of the manage care payer community. The attendee pool comprised of a diverse group of senior leaders, including CEOs, VPs, and senior physicians. CCP, the healthcare plan with a heart, served as a key sponsor of this event where they provided the venue and the keynote speaker. The attending participants were given the opportunity to sit at a business round table outside of their respective organization to discuss the significance of IT in their institutions.

Jessica Lerner did an exceptional job linking population health to healthcare payers and providers, while simultaneously spotlighting the essential role that IT has on the performance stability and longevity of these organizations. Utilizing CCP

as the model, Jessica shared how her organization formed

their reputation by assessing, analyzing, and building

databases that allowed them to be efficient and effective

with reaching patients. Jessica specifically stated that

"Analyzing a situation without data is like driving with your eyes closed."

The dialog was incredibly productive and engagement was

observed from all participants.

The chapter thanks Chinwe Osuagwu for her commitment

and contribution to the successful execution of this event!!

Innovat ion in HealthcareAn inside look at the marr iage between healthcare & technology

Camila embarked upon her first hospital experience while in nursing school at Seton Hall University. As a Float Nursing Assistant, she gained invaluable experience and mastered skills by rotating through various departments. This created a strong foundation and enhanced her knowledge and understanding of clinical operations as their demands taught her flexibility and adaptability. This experience served as a successful springboard in the nursing fields of Medical/Surgical, High Risk OB, and Labor & Delivery. These were accomplished during her first five years as an RN at New York Cornell Medical Center in New York City.

In conjunction to her clinical position, Camila investigated opportunities as a Corporate Nurse. She worked at companies such as Citibank, the New York Fire Department, and on Wall Street at JP Morgan. As an intricate part of the team, she ensured the health needs of the employees. Eager to learn even more, Camila, transitioned to the position of Travel Nurse.

Her first travel assignment brought her to South Florida. After two years at several healthcare systems, Camila accepted the position to manage the OB Department at Northshore Medical Center in North Miami. Camila emphasized how her time spent at this facility was crucial to the growth and trajectory of her career. As a Nurse Manager, Camila was exposed to the leadership of Leah Carpenter, Chief Nursing Officer, who saw great potential in this 30 year old leader! Through invaluable mentoring and sponsorship, determination, dedication, and Camila's proven drive, she was propelled to the promotion of Director of Women's Services.

As a Broward County Resident, healthcare needs for Camila's family took her to Memorial Regional Hospital often. Impressed with their care and culture, Camila joined the Memorial Regional Labor & Delivery team in 2002. Within six months, she was selected to represent OB as 1 of 42 clinicians to spearhead the new Clinical Informatics Department as a Subject Matter Expert, tasked with implementing the first Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Camila participated in and led special IT projects such as Barcode Med Charting, standardization of the OB Fetal Monitoring System , the Clinical Documentation Steering Committee, and the transition from paper to electronic documentation systemwide with Epic.

Camila didn't know that her 1-year commitment would turn into a purposeful 13-year career in Clinical Informatics and Information Technology! Her passion for utilizing technology to improve the delivery of patient care also impacted the lives of external customers. Through the EEG Remote Access Project, Neurologist are now able to read EEG studies remotely and recommend care sooner, removing travel time to the hospital. Additionally, parents and family members across the country can now see a live video feed of their newborn who is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as a result of the NicView Webcam project. Both projects were the catalyst for her fascination with Telehealth. It 's no wonder why she chose to embark upon a new service line for the second time within her 15-year tenure at Memorial.

While in graduate school at Florida International University, Camila engaged in extensive research in Telehealth. Intrigued by the uses across the country, she was nominated to be a member of the Memorial Telehealth Governance Committee. In 2016, she graduated with a Master of Science in Health Informatics and Management Systems, and later that year was promoted to Program Manager for the new Telehealth Strategy department.

Camila Morrison is an agent of change and in her current role she oversees the development of new Telehealth Programs that will improve patient outcomes, decrease healthcare costs and optimize the patient experience. MemorialDocNow, is an example of one of the programs which allows the community to see a provider face to face online from a mobile phone or smart device 24/7. There are no limits to Camila's future and we look forward to her continued success and achievements. NAHSE South Florida is extremely happy to have her as part of our chapter.

Darline Riggs is a wife, a mother, a leader, a nurse and the commissioner of The City of Miramar. She is an energetic, ambitious, hardworking pioneer of equality and accessibility to affordable healthcare. She is empathetic to the needs of the members of the community. It is her nursing experience that allows her to govern with such care. Commissioner Riggs follows her nursing process which involves assessing a situation prior to deploying or discussing potential solutions. Her assessing nature allowed her to identify a population health crisis that is rampant in the area she represents and the neighboring communities. Through experiencing the processes that members of the community face to access healthcare, Commissioner Riggs was able to identify many inefficiencies that inhibits a good quality of life. She has a laser focus on meeting the needs of the population through improving quality of life, building awareness that attacks the fear of health providers amongst the citizens. Darline Riggs stands by the notion that she has a calling to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Advocacy Unleashed

Commissioner Riggs advocates for her citizens through the initiatives that she coordinates, implements , and successfully executes. She has delivered exceptional programs that addresses several unacknowledged areas that promote quality life in under served communities. The most recent initiative is the flier to the right, highlighting "Wellness before Sickness." This initiative is an ongoing collaboration between the City of Miramar, South Broward Community Health Services, and the citizens of Miramar. The target objective for this initiative is to propose health interventions, aimed at significantly improving quality of life. Our Chapter President Grant McGaugh and Secretary Natoia McGarrell were invited to participate in the initial brainstorming discussion. Our NAHSE members were instrumental in defining the slogan"Wellness before Sickness." We applaud commissioner Riggs' efforts and will continue to collaborate with her and her team on future programs that are designed to elevate members, leaders, and the community.
