SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT II

Introduction:The SSR for the 3rd Cycle of Accreditation was prepared and uploaded in the

College website in March 2015 and the hard copy was submitted to NAAC in April 2015.

One supplementary report comprising the developments from March 2015 to October

2015 was also submitted.

The activities that happened after October 2015 to the end of the academic year

2015-16 is presented in Supplementary Report II for the kind perusal and consideration

of the NAAC Peer Team that is scheduled to visit our College from July 18 – 20, 2016.

Gandihigram Rural Institute (Deemed University), Gandhigram conducted Inter-

Collegiate Meet “Sahitya 2016” on February 5, 2016. 16 students from Dept. of English

Sowmiya and Aynul Jariya of II M.A. 5 Second Prizes were won in Mine and Tableau by

Manivannan (II B.A.), Divya (I M.A.) and Bahima Benazir, Sherlin, Sowmiya and Divya

from II M.A. 2 Third Prizes were won in Literary Quiz by Johanson and Sivahari Balan.

American College, Madurai – 15.03.2016:

From among the 28 students who took part in the Inter Collegiate Student

Competition (Microfiesta – 2016) on March 15, 2016 at American College, Madurai, the

students secured I Place in Poster Presentation and secured II Place in Face Painting. Dr.

M. Peer Mohamed, Dr. Rajamohamed Kalanjiam and V.N. Hameedha Banu, Asst.

Professors of Zoology, accompanied the students.

Seven III B.Sc. Zoology students accompanied by a staff attended UGC

Sponsored National Level Conference at VHNSN College, Virudhunagar on February 12,

Prof. of Physics participated in the State Level Seminar and Intercollegiate Competition

‘PHYSIM 2016’ held at Ananda College, Devakottai on February 3, 2016. Mr.

Selvendran of III B.Sc. Physics won II Prize for Best Paper Presentation.

Syed Hameedha Arts and Science College, Kilakarai on 24.02.2016:

Thirty seven students of Dept. of Physics along with Mr. G. Gangadharan and

J.G. Thilagavathi, Asst. Professors of Physics, participated in a One Day State Level

Seminar on ‘Recent Advancement in Material Synthesis’ organized by Syed Hameedha

Arts and Science College, Kilakarai on February 24, 2016. The students won Best

Performance Award for their contribution. R. Selvendran presented a paper titled

‘Application of Nano Technology in Medical Field,’ T. Nihamath Fathima presented a

paper titled ‘Laser and Non-linear Materials,’ S. Kalyana Sundaram , ‘Ceramic Polymers

Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi on 26.02.2016:

On February 26, 2016, Clinton, Vigneswaran and Sindhan Das of Dept. of

English won II Prize in Model Display at Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi.

Aachi Institute of management and Entrepreneurship Development (AIMED),

Chennai on 21.09.2015:

Forty six students took part in the Career Planning Competition 2015-16

organised by Aachi Institute of management and Entrepreneurship Development

(AIMED), Chennai on September 21, 2015.

Industrial Visit / Educational Tour:In an industrial visit to Vespa Textiles Mills, Kallal, Sivagangai District on

December 10, 2015, II M.Com. students participated.

An educational tour to Kodaikanal and Vaigai Dam was arranged on February 19

-20, 2016. Students of B.Com., M.Com. and five staff members participated in the tour.

A team of 47 students and 5 staff members of Dept. of English went on an

educational tour to Hyderabad on March18-19, 2016.

98 girl students of Dept. of Maths went on an educational tour to Kodaikanalon

March 19-20, 2016.

To learn bio diversity and environmental condition, an educational trip was

conducted by the Dept. of Zoology on March 3-4, 2016 to biological related areas at

Kodaikanal.

To provide firsthand experience of Journalism, 100 final year students of B.A.

English Literature were taken to the office of The Hindu, Madurai on January 7, 2016.

New Staff Appointment:

Due to the prolonged delay in giving approval to the existing retired vacancies by

the Director of Collegiate Education, three teaching and two non-teaching posts were

filled by approaching the Court.

Travel Grant Rs.60042 released by UGC to Dr. P. Ibrahim for his visit to

Malaysia from 29th Jan. to 1st Feb. 2016 for the 2016-17 (Plan) expenditure incurred

during 2016-17 F.No.6-183/2015(TG) dt. 1st July, 2016.

Research Guidance:

Dr. A. Abbas Manthiri, Principal is guiding 4 Ph.D. scholars and 2 M.Phil.

scholars at present.

P. Zahir Hussain, Part Time Research Scholar, PG and Research Department of

Commerce, who has done his Ph.D. under the guidance and supervision of Dr. A. Abbas

Manthiri, Principal, submitted his Thesis titled ‘A Study on Anomalies of Oil Pricing in

India’ on June 6, 2016.

Welfare Measures:

The students donated Rs.45104 and staff donated Rs.146576 for the welfare of

Tamil Nadu Flood Victims in 2015.

Every year management of the college and staff members contribute to the IFTAR

(a communal harmony programme) during Ramzan.

The staff members offer a feast to the retiring teaching and non-teaching staff and

8 grams of gold coin is offered as a memento to them.

Awards / Appreciation:

Our was awarded 66th Republic Day Award for Best Colleges “Arivu Thirukoil

Award – 2015” by Kurinji Kabilar Tamil Sangam, Namakkal.

Dr. P. Ibrahim was awarded with “Asiriya Jothi - 2015 Award” given by Tamil

Nadu Arts & Literature Association.

Dr. M. Babuselvam’s proposal for Major Research Project was selected in

preliminary screening under the Scheme of Empowerment and Equity Opportunities for

Excellence in Science, Department of Science and Technology. The title of his proposal

is “Production and Screening of Bioactive compounds from seaweed associated

actinomycetes against antibacterial resistant bacterial pathogens of corneal ulcers” at a

cost of Rs.47, 35, 200.

Dr. A. Jeyamurugan, Asst. Professor of Chemistry submitted a Project Proposal to

DST under scheme of ‘Electrochemical and optical imaging device technologies.’ The

title of the Proposal sas ‘Edible vegetable waste mediated synthesis of reduced grapheme

sheet – Au/Ag alloyed nanocomposites and its application towards biosensing’ at a cost

of Rs.68 lakhs.

Dr. M. Thayalan, Asst. Prof. of Zoology has participated as Guide for writing

research articles in the District Level National Children’s Science Conference,

Ramanathapuram District on November 13, 2013. The title of Research is ‘Energy.’

Dr. A. Abbas Manthiri, Principal was nominated as Chairperson and Dr. S.

University Intercollegiate Sports & Tournament for the academic year 2015-16

Dr. S. Kalidasan, acted as a selection committee member for the Alagappa

University handball & Table tennis teams.

Certificates were issued. Toppers were honoured with prizes in the College Day.

Conclusion:

The developments that took place in the even semester of 2015-16 and the Best

Practices in each criterion are put in the Supplementary Report II. The filling of

additional posts during this period will pay rich dividend to the students. All the

recommendations except one (Getting Autonomous Status for the College) made by the

Peer Team in 2010 were fulfilled. The activities carried on during the 3rd Cycle Period

will definitely convey the smooth functioning of the college. However, we are not

complacent and we know that we have miles to go to seek and sustain excellence in

higher education. With the divine blessings and the support of the Management, staff,

students and other stakeholders of this college, this college will grow with leaps and

bounds. As per the revised Grading System effective from 1st July 2016, with the

Blessings of Almighty we will bag the coveted “A+” Grade with more CGPA in the 3rd

Cycle of Accreditation.
